So the weekend that was originally supposed to be suspended because of the strike was played and
it was a pretty good weekend overall. It's proving to be an even Serie A campaign so far, in fact
it's the first time since the 1971/72 season that no team is unbeaten. Every team has lost at least
once, and every team at least has one point.
It's all over the calcio news this morning, the Italian Footballer's Association has declared
that they will be going on strike on the 5th Giornata of the season, which is scheduled to take
place the weekend of September 26th (and has Roma-Inter on the schedule). The press conference was
held today, and Massimo Oddo was the spokesperson for the Footballer's Association (WHY?
Goalkeeper: Emiliano Viviano (Bologna). With Gianluigi Buffon injured for the best part of six
months, there is a gaping space as Italy's top goalkeeper that nobody has grasped. The young

So, the polls are now closed. Let's see what everyone that voted thinks will occur this season
in Serie A. All polls included, there were 2,066 votes cast (including the last poll which wasn't
really relevant to Serie A at all). So, without further adieu, here's what the poll results
show:
Who will win the 2010/2011 Scudetto?
Three scorelines in Italy today, all adding up to one result: Inter has gained three points on
two of their biggest rivals for the scudetto. First, they had to win their own match, at home
against Udinese, which they managed 2-1. Then it was time to watch Roma, who went down to ten men
in the 22nd minute away at Cagliari.
Yes Allegri, just because you have Ibrahimovic, Pato, Ronaldinho, and Robinho doesn't mean it's
going to be easy. Side note- Italian papers must love that Allegri's last name means happy. Oh how
they must enjoy thinking about clever titles of Milan being "poco Allegri" (not happy) or "molto
Allegri" (very happy).
If you loved checking out the Italy Offside every Tuesday last season just to see the Serie A
Goals of the Week post and it's cool logo, fear not, because it's back! There were 38 goals scored
this weekend in Serie A (which is pretty high for Serie A standards) and only 2 teams went
scoreless: Milan and Fiorentina.
Italian players' union boss Sergio Campana doesn't see a stoppage to the Serie A strike on
Wednesday.
After the contract between the league and the union expired at the close of the season, Serie A
players have become disgruntled by the league's approach to reaching new terms.
The two biggest objections at this point are the clubs' proposals that players who aren't wanted
should accept a transfer in the final year of their contract, and players unworthy of training with
the squad should work on getting fit elsewhere.
First of all, forgive me for not updating this blog for several days, but that happened due to some
hollidays over here which required my attention. The most important thing is that we managed to
beat Bologna by 3 goals to 1. This is how I saw this match: First half It was clear that [...]
Muslera 6 - overall a solid match. Nothing to be done at Mudingayi`s goal Lichtsteiner 6 -- solid
as well. Active on the right flank, but poor at crosses. Diaz 6 -- another decent appearance by the
Brazilian. Not that busy against defensive minded Bologna Biava 6 -- see above Radu 5,5 -- insecure

Samuel Eto'o scored twice as reigning champions Inter Milan came from behind to beat Palermo 2-1 in
Serie A. Newly-promoted Cesena were 1-0 winners at home to Lecce, thanks to Erjon Bogdani's goal.
Juventus eased their early-season worries with a 4-0 victory over an Udinese side who slumped to a
third successive league defeat.
Another great weekend of Serie A, with lots of interesting results. We're at the third day of
the season, and guess who's on top? Cesena. Yes, Cesena. The little Romagnolo side is on top with
Inter with 7 points, but is ahead because guess what- Cesena hasn't let in a single goal. 40 year
old Francesco Antonioli has still yet to be beaten in 3 games.

'This is a team that has balls,' declared Claudio Ranieri in a pre-match rant. Their draw with
Bologna suggested otherwise.
Roma lacking testicular fortitude as press gets under Ranieri's skin.
There were only 24 goals scored this weekend in Serie A, which is much less than the 38 scored
the previous weekend. Only one game was 0-0 (Bari-Cagliari), but most of the other games were
low-scoring. The highest scoring games were Roma-Bologna (2-2) and Udinese-Juve (0-4) with 4 goals
apiece.

So it's early days for Rafa Benitez's side and yet his critics are already out to make life
difficult for him. Internazionale have endured a mixed start to the season; they dominated Roma in
the Italian Super Cup; lost to Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup with an abject
performance.
The first midweek round of Serie A has been played, which makes the programming schedule a
little bit different, meaning here's another post from the "Weekend that was" series, except this
one is "weekday that was". Serie A giants Brescia and Chievo are fulfilling their Scudetto
ambitions and have a near perfect start with 9 points each, while minnows like Milan, Fiorentina,
Roma, and Juventus are all struggling.
