According to The Daily Mail, Roberto Mancini has opened the door on the possibility of succeeding
the under-fire Rafael Benitez as Liverpool manager. The in-demand Italian recently settled his £5.5 million-per-year contract with Serie A giants
Inter Milan, having parted ways with the San Siro club in May 2008. Click to continue reading...
A few nice goals this week, but nothing extraordinary. Giuseppe Mascara scored one of his
trademark wonder-goals, and Marco Borriello got back on the scoresheet with 2 goals (the second a
nice scissor kick) after almost a year. Diego Milito got back to his scoring ways as well after
being absent through injury, and Mirko Vucinic finally scored his first goal of the season.
Napoli won vs. Juventus in Torino for the first time since November 20, 1988, when Maradona's
Napoli won 5-3. Since then, there had been 11 wins and 5 ties, and Napoli hadn't scored in Torino
since March of 1998. This Napoli side has been rejuvenated under Walter Mazzarri, and they have
shown they have a never say die attitude that keeps them working for the full 90 minutes.
For a long while there, Stephen Appiah was an international footballer only. The midfielder has
not played a kick of club soccer since late 2007, but still managed to captain Ghana through a
successful World Cup 2010 qualification campaign. Which is ridiculously impressive when you think
about it.
Although we are only 10 games into the season, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is starting to look more and
more like a big flop. 15 million euro were spent on the Dutch striker, and even if he reaches 5
goals this season it would seem like a big achievement. Sure you can say that he needs time to
adapt to a new style of play, new language, new culture, but it's already November almost and we
still have not seen Huntelaar's name on the score sheet.
What a tumultuous ten weeks it has been. When the season kicked off, even the most
Italian-friendly pundits were predicting that this season, dubbed 'Year Zero' by the AC Milan fans,
would be the dullest season in Italian history.
But it is now clear how wrong that prediction was. In the first two games of the season, most
predictions were proven true as AC Milan were pummelled 4-0 by rivals Inter Milan, while Roma
slumped to two successive defeats and Genoa and Juve both played with style.
I didn't put up a Weekend Round-up yesterday because I figured with the midweek round tomorrow,
it would be pointless to update everything twice. So we'll dive in straight to Goals of the Week.
Not as great as last week, but still some good goals, especially Daniele Mannini's one-time volley
vs.
Giusto qua e là a margine della dello scorso week end calcistico.
JUVENTUS.
Sampdoria get the business done crushing Bologna 4-1 on Saturday. Pazzini continues to score

Franco Colomba had been waiting by the phone for what seemed like ages. Then the call came, and
he said: "Yes". He was back in the game. The Menarini family wanted him to become
Bologna's fourth manager in under a year. Colomba turned to his wife and said: "From this day
forward you can call me ‘mister' again.
Giampaolo Pazzini celebrates his goal in Sampdoria's 4-1 win over Bologna just one week after
suffering a broken nose and being told he would be out for a month.
His protective mask fittingly describes him as "crazy."
Inspired by this form of injury-induced expression, Cristiano Ronaldo has already decided that
if he ever breaks his nose, his mask will read: "effeminate.
This is going to be a good goals of the week post. There are many nice goals, and in particular
the goals from Stankovic and Dessena are awesome to watch. Goals after the jump.
Dejan Stankovic vs. Genoa Stankovic notices that Amelia makes an error on the clearance and moves
to the right, hitting the ball on the volley from way out and it sailed over Amelia and into the
net.
The picture on the left is the photo sequence of Dejan Stankovic's 54 meter long strike vs Genoa
on Saturday. Marco Amelia messed up his clearance, and Stankovic coordinated a beautiful volley
that sailed over Amelia and bounced into the net. Goals from midfield are always nice to look
at.
Does anyone know who Adailton is? Or Pablo Counago? And what have they got in common? Give up? Ok, no need to rush to google: the answer is that they both finished the FIFA U20 World
Cup as top scorers (1997 and 1999 respectively) and were considered among the best talents of their
generation. Click to continue reading...
Sorry I didn't get up a weekend round-up yesterday, it was a really busy day. However I don't
want to disrupt the weekly order so I'll go straight to Goals of the Week. Last week was probably
the worst goals of the week post of all time. I think this week made up for it with some quality
strikes.
Ho vissuto momenti personali assai difficili dopo il pareggio con il Bologna e il Bordoux e la
sconfitta a Palermo. Desidero ricordare agli amici del nostro Sito, non certo per vanteria, ma solo
per puntualizzazione, che in tempi non sospetti ho scritto post che anticipavano ciò che succede
dopo.
I'm just going to throw it out there: this might be the worst goals of the week post of all
time. Nothing spectacular at all this weekend, most goals were very plain and ordinary. Of the 18
goals scored this weekend, about 3 are top goal worthy. But let's see this week's goals of the week
(hoping that Giornata 7 brings us better ones):
Sampdoria are top of the table alone for the first time in 18 years. A week ago I wrote an
article saying that Sampdoria could be the surprise of the season, and right now that hypothesis is
still holding up. While it's almost impossible for them to win the scudetto and considering the
fact that Gigi Del Neri's teams usually suffer a drop in form after the winter break, they should
be challenging for a spot in Europe next season, whether that be Europa League or Champions League
that remains to be seen.
Click to continue reading...
I always like to watch videos of bloopers, and this time I've found a Serie A blooper video from
the early 2000's. Always entertaining, and it includes a mistake from Buffon!! (how often do you
see those?)
Video after the jump.
And since we're on the topic of Buffon mistakes, here's another one I remember from a couple of
years ago:
It's crunch time in Serie A, as clubs must play three games in the span of 8 days this week, and
even more over the next eleven days if they are playing in international competitions.
It's a Bad Month to Be a Milan Fan: Not only is rival Inter atop the Serie A
standings, Milan lost yesterday to Udinese for its second defeat on the year.
AC Milan coach Leonardo believes his side can turn around their stuttering form when they take on
promoted side Bari this weekend. Juventus will be bolstered by the return of star players Diego and
Alessandro del Piero for Sunday's game against Bologna. Preview Click to continue reading...
