The South American region or CONMEBOL had a full set of 2010 World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday September 5, 2009 with the biggest match being Argentina v Brazil. Other matches including Colombia v Ecuador, Peru v Uruguay, Chile v Venezuela, and Paraguay v Bolivia. Here's a recap of all the matches along with video highlights.

Brazil have qualified, despite their early drama. Argentina can end their drama tonight in Ascunion. Chile and Paraguay are expected to qualify, though a close look at their remaining fixtures suggests their drama may be about to begin. The other usual suspects, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay are drifting, clinging to the hope the current with take them to Costa Rica.

Last Wednesday's day of World Cup qualifiers secured finals appearances for three national teams, but the biggest news has to be Argentina's continued downward spiral through the CONMEBOL standings. After their 1-0 loss to Paraguay, and Ecuador's 3-1 away win to Bolivia, Ecuador now lie in fourth place on 23 points while Argentina remain on 22.

Every supporter of a team from time to time feels that the squad could do with a shake up and followers of the Bolivian national side have been afforded just that.
