It's Friday again thank Hunt! Tonight sees the first Dublin Derby of the season as we take on our
less fortunate city cousins St. Patrick's Athletic. This has often been described as Dublin's
friendliest derby. Granted there isn't the vitriolic hatred that exists between us and Rovers or
the extreme distaste that we have for [.
Photo by Dean Taaffe Its been a strange week since the trip to Cobh. On Wednesday my Cousin, Fab
and I traveled to Manchester for the UEFA cup final. We'd had all sorts of warnings about going as
Rangers were in the final. They eat their babies, they'll burn you as a witch, you'll go straight
[...]
There was a recent thread on the Drogheda United forum about how deep you should bury a dog. I
shudder to think what state the deceased animal was in as the forum member waited for his answer.
Maybe it was in the freezer. Maybe the dog wasn't dead yet. Either way there was no debate [...]
Friday night, ten o' clock, the Ballybough end in Tolka park was jumping. "We love you, we
love you, we love you and where you go we follow, we follow, we follow". We'd just beaten
Shamrock Rovers, our arch enemies 1-0 away with a goal scored by none other than Glen Crowe. That
goal clinched [...]
Photo by Dean Taaffe "I've been waiting such a long time, looking out for you But you're not
here What's another year?" Those lyrics, sung by Bohs hero Johnny Logan could almost be about our
now five year (six seasons) wait for league title glory. Still, at least it's not fourteen barren
years coupled with twenty one years of homelessness.
Bohs fans at last season's FAI cup Semi-Final (Photo by Dean Taffe) The scenes at Tolka last Friday
on the Ballybough end with the Bohs hardcore jumping up and down, singing and waving scarves in the
air made me think about the Shed at Dalymount. Its famed glory days were of course before my time
but [.
When the season kicked off one thing that I was looking forward to was those long distance away
trips. Due to the fall of the fixtures however, along with a particularly nasty infection hitting
me at a most inopportune time, so far I've had to make do with the opening day's trip to Galway.
Yesterday [.
Ballybough End at last season's Tolka derby. (Photo source unknown - for creditation mail
me) Its a glorious morning. Maybe there is some cloud in the sky but the sun shines through and
bathes the city in a trancendent haze that matches my mood. Rovers. That one word sums up the full
range of my emotions [.
I'm one of those people who gets excited at the sight of a football ground. Dalymount's majestic
floodlights were one of the first things that attracted me to Bohs. If I'm travelling through a
city I haven't been in before, I always keep an eye out for its stadia. I don't know why this is.
[...]
There are a few Drogheda fans who like to wind me up to the effect that as a Navan man, Drogheda
United should be my team. Besides the fact that I was living in Dublin when I started going to see
Bohs, there is no logic in this idea. For one thing, United Park is only [...]
I have very few happy memories of trips to Belfield for Bohs games and Friday night didn't
provide any either. I left work at five o'clock on what was a beautiful Friday evening. It was
perfect for sitting outside and having a few beers but unfortunately I had to head up to Dalymount
to pick up [...
There was a full moon in the sky last night. All right thinking football fans stayed indoors. This
was not just any full moon, it coincided with the perverted satanic ritual of donning red or blue
shirts and praying to the gods of greed, excess and corporate entities that just happen to have
football teams.
He's got seven goals this year so far making him the league's top scorer. He's the best dead ball
man we've had for years. Yet Killian Brennan may be wondering if he's not as popular as some other
players in the side. The problem is, Killian has no song. Crowe has "start spreading the
news", [...]
As a result of our Intertoto campaign a number of games had to be moved from their originally
scheduled dates. One such game was the away trip to Finn Harps on Tuesday. Those of you familiar
with the geography of Ireland will know that it entails a journey of two hundred and thirty
kilometers and [.
Kev is going to be doing a full report on the events of Friday night, incorporating Thursday
night's display making. This is good as I realy don't want to write about what I had to witness on
Friday night. Suffice to say that only four players turned up on the night. Super Keeper Murphy who
was [...]
Photo by Dean Taaffe One residual effect of last Friday's action against Finn
Harps at Dalymount Park has been an ongoing discussion at the TheBohs.com
forum about the NBB banner that read "€20 a score too far". This was a protest
at the recent price increase of admission to games at Dalymount from last year's €15 tag.
After the relatively comfortable win over Rovers I was expeacting an easy win over Bray on Friday
night at Dalyer. Do I never learn? Once again Bohs showed their inability to lift themselves for
games against smaller teams. As Nutsy said before the game "you get the same points for
beating Bray as for beating [.
When I woke up this morning my first thought was "What can I write in the blog about last
night? Nothing happened." The game was as dull as lecture on advanced mathematics delivered by
Enda Kenny. Sure, we'd a fair bit of possession and some decent passing moves but there was no
penetration, no urgency, [.
Well maybe its fitting, seeing as how Bohs play on Saturday this week; Obsessed! is the current
When Saturday Comes blog of the month! Thanks to the WSC crew for noticing us and thanks to all the
regular readers who make it worth our while to do this. As I said, tomorrow we have the rare [...]
LukeO works most Friday nights. That at least is his excuse for missing most home games. Last night
however another theory emerged. Shortly before a quarter to eight as the Bohs team entered the
pitch, they were joined by someone in a big foam Dennis the menace suit. It was our new mascot. As
[...]
Blog that is! For the second consecutive month, a Bohs fan blogger has been awarded Blog of the
Month in When Saturday Comes! This time the plaudits go to Steve D for his "A Gambling
Journey" which is hosted on the unofficial Bohs site bohs.ie. Bohs are currently top of the
league in football terms and [.
Ryan Guy and St. Pats must try again to reach the Irish Cup semi-finals, while Chris Konopka and
Bohemians are already there after their lopsided victory in weekend Irish soccer action.

I'll be on vacation in Ireland all next week so you'll have to get along without any website
updates until at least the 29th of September. We'll be in Sligo, Killarney down in County Kerry and
a few days in Dublin to finish it off. I'm planning to catch a match with my friend Conor (a Derry
City nut (club-histories/the-history-of-derry-city.
After Liverpool's victory over runaway Serie A leaders Inter, the horrific possibility of another
European trophy for the most mediocre of football giants has become a real possibility. May 25th
2005 was one of those horrific sporting moments in my life. Liverpool, three down to a far superior
Milan side at half time managed to take [.
Half past Five on Saturday evening on Platform seven at Connolly Station myself and Spainer are the
last men standing from the inaugural NBB away trip of the 2008 Season. The platform is jammed with
Rugby fans coming from the Ireland V Wales six nations game and as I board my train I get jammed
[...]
And I don't care about morals cause the worlds insane and were all to blame anyway And I don't feel
any sorrow Towards the kings and queens of the butterfly collectors - from The Butterfly Collector
(The Jam) Its finally here! The new dawn is upon us, rejoice! The beginning of the football season
for me is an occasion for [.
"You're obliged to pretend respect for people and institutions you think absurd. You live attached
in a cowardly fashion to moral and social conventions you despise, condemn and know lack all

formalities and vain pretences of your civilization, which makes [.
I was crying as the Berlin Wall fell, not due to any emotional attachment my one and a half year
old self held for the U.S.S.R, but rather because I was going through a practically bad teething
phase. Twenty seven years previously while John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the man whose Presidency will
be forever linked with that [.
With Kev fast becoming the Mark O'Brien of the blogosphere, it falls upon me to discuss one of
those questions that lingers in the subconscious of many League of Ireland football fans; How big
do you want your club to get? With all the talk of promoting domestic football and looking towards
an Al Ireland [.
Well I hope you enjoyed all the articles written by Kev in the last couple of weeks but now its my
turn to take up the story of the 2008 season once again. Friday night we faced Finn Harps for the
first time in a few years. They'd been promoted last year and had started [...]
Onside magazine is a new publication focusing on Irish football. Its a steal at €4 for 57
pages of full colour quality coverage of the Eircom League of Ireland and the international team.
Its available from ELOI club shops, Easons and some other newsagents.
Its hard to believe that we are top of the league for the first time in five years. As the fourth
official put up his board to show four minutes of injury time on Tuesday night some people were
chanting it. I couldn't. Me and Jimmy who was standing beside me looked away. Pats threw [...]
"El Cuervo's flag in the members bar" Bohs beat Drogheda Town 3-0. There isn't much to
say about the game. Victory was inevitable. We expected to win by more but it matters little. We go
into the two week summer break, with six wins on the spin, top of the league and still in the FAI
[...]
Greetings Hillcrest Road faithful. Don't forget to pose a question for Jimmy and Jack above. They
will be asked tomorrow after practice and then posted here at Hillcrest Road afterward. By all
accounts, practice was an intense one today and featured some post-practice
"conditioning". The guys got after it.
The first round of the Intertoto Cup was completed this weekend and teams like Bohemians
who beat Rhyl 9-3 on agg and Honved who beat Zhetysu 6-3 on agg and Elfsborg who beat HB 4-1 on agg
along with others move on to next weekend on their Road to European glory.

Irish League play returns after last weekend's cup games. Ryan Guy and St Patricks will hope to
gain some ground of Chris Konopka and Bohemians as both Dublin based teams return to action in the
Premier Division.
St Patricks travelled across town with the hopes of keeping within touching distance with the
league leading Bohemians, but it was not to be on the night as the Bohs dismantled the Saints in
the second half with a trio of goals by Mark Rossiter, Glen Crowe and Jason Byrne to open up a 16
point lead.
