The P2010 Index is a ranking system based on player ratings assigned by some of the
country's top soccer sites and journalist. These ratings are then weighted by strength of opponent,
match significance, venue, and recent form. (It's all explained here.)
In this installment, we present the first P2010 depth chart.
The last thing most people were thinking about after Salvador Cabanas was shot in the head last
week was whether he could still play in the World Cup. For Cabanas, who is recovering and in stable
condition, the World Cup is a dream he is still holding on to.
Cabanas has regained consciousness and is movig his limbs and is expected to leave intensive
care soon, and reports out of Mexico have revealed that the Paraguayan striker told his father he
plans on playing in the World Cup.
Fake Sigi turned me on to this, a story written by Paul Olio seven years
ago prognosticating the 2010 USA World Cup team (which wasn't announced Saturday, but will be
soon).
I can't at all fault Paul for any of these choices - it's hard enough to predict the team seven
weeks out, much less seven years, but let's look at these guys and see what has happened (or not
happened) to them in the intervening seven years:
Adu, Freddy: Has bounced around and isn't even remotely a possibility.
