U.S. Soccer has been coming up with some nice looking commercials lately. Here's the latest
promoting the Saturday June 6th, 2009 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Honduras in Chicago, IL. It
features some excellent on the field footage from previous U.S. National Team qualifiers. Clint
Dempsey, Tim Howard and the B-Boys (Bradley, Bocanegra and Beasley) [.

With the 2010 World Cup berth already secured, the U.S. national team will head into its final
qualifier on Wednesday playing for a chance to top the CONCACAF qualifying group, and a chance to
improve its place in the FIFA world rankings (as well as score a measure of revenge for the 3-1
thumping delivered by Costa Rica in June).

If the starting lineup the U.S. team fielded in Saturday's loss to Slovakia didn't look far
enough away from Bob Bradley's first-choice squad, wait until you see the team we are likely to
have take the field in Denmark on Wednesday.
Brazil celebrate
Brazil picked up their third Confederations Cup after coming back from two goals down against
the United States.
The USA took a shock lead when Dempsey's snap shot caught out Brazil's static defence on the
10th minute.
With 27 minutes on the clock, the US doubled the score after a superb counterattacking move from
their own half, ended with Donovan outfoxing Ramires before hitting a perfect shot past Júlio
César.
I'm still sweating whether my feed will hold up all the way through, but it's about 98% that I'll
have one.I'll be back around 8.30 PM ET with my thoughts, with the line-ups and a prediction to
follow at around 9 PM. This is what I expect will be the line-up:Howard; Cherundolo, Onyewu,
Bocanegra, Hejduk, Bradley, Clark, Holden, Donovan, Davies, AltidoreSee ya in a while.
Mexico 2, USA 1.
USA still can't beat Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, even after a one goal lead.
So, who's to blame?
BLAME THE REF
I thought the cards were inconsistently given, although it wouldn't have led to anything
substantial. No one deserved a send off.
The U.S. men's national team is set to close out its World Cup qualifying campaign tonight
against Costa Rica (8pm, ESPN2/Galavision). The Americans have already qualified, but Costa Rica
needs a win tonight to ensure a berth in the 2010 World Cup.
Tonight's match is being played under a bit of a somber cloud as the U.
It was the final weekend in many of the European leagues as goalkeeper Tim Howard grabbed
another clean sheet for Everton, and midfielder Maurice Edu played for Rangers who won the Scottish
Premier League title. In the League 1 Promotion Play-off final Zak Whitbread and Millwall fell to
Scunthorpe, but Michael Bradley and Monchengladbach were able to avoid relegation.
"It's on our list of things to do."
With an uncharacteristic smirk on his face and confidence in his voice, Bob Bradley uttered
those words back in February when asked about the U.S. national team winning in Mexico. The
Americans had just defeated Mexico in Columbus and Bradley had every reason to feel confident about
his team's chances of coming to Mexico and recording the team's first victory on American soil.
The U.S. men's national team will face Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday night in a World Cup
qualifier it desperately needs a result from in order to stay in good shape in the super-tight
CONCACAF qualifying race.
Who will start in this all-important match? U.S. head coach Bob Bradley has plenty of options to
choose from, both in defense and in the midfield.
PR isn't supposed to matter this much.
Yet, here I sit, utterly mortified by the United States' utter capitulation to Mexico in the Gold
Cup final. No matter how much I keep telling myself it doesn't matter or it hardly counted, I just
cannot get over the fact those guys embarrassed themselves and the US program as a whole out there.
A Slovakian team that was (apparently) good in European qualifying, but not well ranked by
FIFA, played a defensive, counter-attacking game against the USA in a partially filled stadium,
on a pretty ugly field and won 1-0 on a weak penalty call. Not what you call must-see-TV, so it
is probably good that not many people saw it.

The Final of the CONCACAF 2009 Gold Cup took place on Sunday with the United States looking to
win their third straight title while Mexico was looking to avenge their 2007 loss. Here's a recap
of the match along with video highlights.
Mexico embarasses the United States 5-0 Video Highlights The match started off
fairly even in the first half but the second half saw Mexico take control and embarass the
Americans with a 5-0 victory.
Finally the day is here, USA vs Trinidad. Big game for the USA, they need to win to help them
finish in the top three so they won't have to play a play in match vs maybe Argentina. Here is the
lineup;
----------------Davies--------Altidore-----------
Donovan--------------------------------Dempsey
-----------------Bradley-----Clark---------------
Bornstein----Bocanegra---Onyewu----Spector
-----------------------Howard--------------------
Big suprises here is Clark partnering Bradley Jr.
Well, the big day has arrived and the time is nigh. I'll be back in a moment with my view of the
impending CONCACAF World Cup qualifier between the U.S. and arch nemesis Mexico in a few. For now,
the Red, White & Blue line-up that will try to break the Azteca jinx:Howard; Cherundolo, Demerit,
Onyewu, Bocanegra, Bradley, Clark, Dempsey, Donovan, Davies, ChingI'm little surprised to see 'Dolo
over
The U.S. men's national team is in must-win mode tonight as it faces El Salvador in World Cup
qualifying in Sandy, Utah (8pm, ESPN Classic).
The Americans currently sit in third place in CONCACAF qualifying, but a win tonight would go a
long way toward helping the USA qualify.
I will be providing commentary throughout the evening so please feel free to follow along
here.
Here's the USA lineup for the qualifier tonight against Honduras: Howard Spector, Onyewu, Bocanegra
(c), Bornstein Dempsey, Clark, Mastroeni, Donovan Altidore, Casey I'm not a big fan of that...
Last game was amazing. While Spain were clearly a better, more skilled team than the USA,
everyone wearing the red, white, and blue put in a good performance. And believe it or not, we
were better on the day. Even our old foe Bob Bradley deserves credit. Ever since he changed to
a proper 4-4-2, the team has scored 5 goals and all were from the run of play!

Americans Abroad, Wed.
It was a busy weekend for Americans Abroad with Oguchi Onyewu and Carlos Bocanegra scoring goals
for their respective clubs. Tim Howard earned another clean sheet while Clint Dempsey and Fulham
defeated Brad Friedel and Aston Villa. Maurice Edu played for Rangers in the "Old Firm" as they
defeated Celtic, and Zak Whitbread played for Millwall who's in the English League One promotion
playoffs.
When the US team wins, US fans experience a mixture of euphoria and dismay. It seems fair to say
we are grateful for the win and anxious about the team's shortcomings. Fans know our country has a
long way to go until we're ready to challenge for the World Cup in earnest, and there are few
things hardcore US soccer fans want more.

The U.S. men's national team is in South Africa preparing for the Confederations Cup and is now
just a week away from facing off against Italy in its opening group match.
Spain were predicted to beat the USA comfortably, but if you took a look at the
whole match, anything but occurred
Usually in soccer, USA have nothing to show, but if the Americans showed one thing tonight,
however cliché it may be; it's that having a coach who knows his tactics and who knows how his
players fit the tactics can prove to be very effective, effective enough to beat the European
champions.
US Soccer released the roster for the August 12 "Attack the Azteca" game today, and THERE ARE NO
SHOCKS but a couple of mild surprises.
GK: Guzan, Howard
DEFENSE: Spector, Bocanegra, Onyewu, Marshall, Bornstein, Cherundolo and DeMerit
MIDFIELD: Bradley, Clark, Dempsey, Feilhaber, Holden and Torres
FORWARD: Altidore, Casey, Ching, Davies and Donovan
Looks like DaMarcus Beasley has finally played himself out of the program.
Odd day. Up early this morning for a presentation in Bracknell, out to that, spent two hours
talking, back again, nip down to Crockatt & Powell to say hello to Matthew, up to Waterloo, and oh
look, there's Mark Schwarzer in WH Smith, buying himself a copy of The Times. In those famous
hands were several Harrod's food hall bags (staff discount, I imagine).
The USA-Costa Rica match is the only FIFA World Cup qualifier in the world being played on June 3.
The match originally scheduled for June 10 was moved up by FIFA due to the USA's participation in
the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. The U.S. will have one day less of rest, with just two days off
before facing Honduras on June 6 in Chicago.
In perhaps one of the worst games played for the US National team since the loss to the Czech
Republic in World Cup 2006, the boys in red, white and blue were outplayed in almost every aspect
last night.
We didn't compete hard enough. We got beat to balls and they caused us problems we couldn't
figure out.

The starting lineup you see above is the U.S. national team squad that played against (and was
embarrassed by) Costa Rica on Wednesday.
Brazil go through the motions
On Sunday, Holders Brazil take on the USA in the final of the Confederations Cup in the Ellis
Park stadium in Johannesburg.
Brazil have won the competition twice (97 and 2005) and a third win would make them the most
successful side in the tournament's brief history.
The 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal in Miami featured a rematch of a Confederations Cup group
game from a month earlier. Brazil and the United States had varying approaches to this tournament:
The USA wanted to win the event and again qualify for the Confederations Cup while Brazil was
bloodletting a promising group of youngsters who have since become household names.
About a month back the STO Commish heard some interesting news. U.S. forward Kenny Cooper
signed with German club 1860 Munich. Cooper's signing with the club came a few months after
starting U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu signed with Serie A squad AC Milan. And just a few weeks
back Jozy Altidore was transferred to Premier League club, Hull City.

Good morning all. I am coming to you from San Jose, Costa Rica, where the U.S. men's national
team will be arriving today ahead of Wednesday night's crucial CONCACAF World Cup qualifier vs.
Costa Rica. I will be providing updates from San Jose periodically so be sure to check in to SBI
for the latest updates from San Jose.
I know most of you can watch, but there may be folks stuck at work and, well... let's just have
some fun anyway. I will stick to the larger events and any amusing remark I can come up with at 4
AM in the morning.Here is your U.S. line-up, which is very surprising on a few levels:Howard;
Wynne, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Beasley, Mastroeni, Bradley, Torres, Dempsey, Donovan, Altidore My
initial thought
The U.S. men's national team will look to erase the memories of Wednesday night's crushing 3-1
loss to Costa Rica by trying to beat Honduras at Soldier Field in Chicago tonight (8pm, ESPN2).
The U.S. team needs to avoid a loss tonight to keep from dropping as far as third place in the
CONCACAF Hexagonal standing.

The U.S. men's national team has one match remaining in the Confederations Cup, one last match
for players to prove themselves, one last chance for Bob Bradley to test his squad against stiff
international competition outside of World Cup qualifying.
The final first round games are about to kick off, so we thought we'd throw our ideal lineup
out there. If for no other reason, it will give us the right to say "I told you so" in the event of
a loss today. If we win, on the other hand, we will obviously never speak of this again.
Altidore Davies
Donovan
Torres Adu
-Bradley
Bocanegra DeMerit Onyewu Spector
-Howard
I'm so late with this post that they've probably already announced the actual lineups, but I'm
going to post this anyway.
1-Tim Howard
3-Carlos Bocanegra
5-Oguchi Onyewu
8-Clint Dempsey
9-Charlie Davies
10-Landon Donovan (capt.)
12-Michael Bradley
13-Ricardo Clark
15-Jay DeMerit
17-Jozy Altidore
21-Jonathan Spector
Two changes from Egypt with Howard coming back in front of the net, while Bocanegra comes back from
injury and starts at left back.
