We're back with another simple List of the Week for you. Last week, we brought you a list of
historical UEFA Champions League winners. It seemed only fitting that the next list would be a list
of champions for the Western Hemisphere's counterpart to the Champions League, the Copa
Libertadores.
Emiliano Insua has left Liverpool for Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan with an
option to make the deal permanent.
The 21-year-old full-back has been at Liverpool for the past four years, having joined as a
youngster from Boca Juniors.
However, he struggled to break into the side and recent signing of Paul Konchesky by the Anfield
club put another hurdle in his path.

La semana pasada les dije que continuaría mi búsqueda acerca de los apodos que reciben los
equipos en la Liga Argentina, aquí están algunas historias:
Argentinos Juniors: "Los Bichitos Colorados"
Corrían los años 50´s y al día siguiente de una victoria del equipo, en las páginas del diario
"El Clarín" se tituló la frase "Picaron los bichitos colorados", el apodo se popularizó y hasta
nuestros días sigue siendo vigente.

Vélez Sarsfield beat River Plate 2-1 in Sunday's big clash to leave Ángel Cappa's side off the
pace in the title race, and (for the first time this season) in the direct relegation spots of the
Promedio to boot. Vélez ... Continue reading →
Social Media is taking off in a big way with everyone, especially the Spanish Football Players, who
upload plenty of comments, videos & photos on their Facebook & Twitter accounts. Xabi Alonso,
Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos, Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas etc wish to stay in touch with their fans & that is
great! Here are two examples of photos on Twitter were the players are delighted to step on the Boca
Juniors
The Torneo Apertura gathers apace on the back of the selección's impressive win on Tuesday over
Spain, and the return to domestic action is a suitably juicy one in spite of there being no
clásicos this weekend. Leaders Vélez Sarsfield ... Continue reading →
Champions Argentinos Juniors are still without a win this season after throwing away a lead at home
for the second time in this Torneo Apertura. This time the beneficiaries were Newell's Old Boys,
the rosarinos scoring twice in quick succession ... Continue reading →
Group B features clubs with varying levels of experience ranging from perennials Olympique
Lyonnais to debutants Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC. This group feels a little more predictable than Group A
but the battle at the top could get quite interesting.
Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC
Key Signing: Salim Toama.
Diminutive River Plate midfielder Diego Buananotte has been charged with triple
manslaughter after three of his childhood friends died in a car crash while he was
driving. I remember his first Super Clasico at Monumental, I was at the game
watching this little teenager tear up Boca Juniors and in awe.
My newest post has just gone up on In Bed With Maradona, looking over the biggest results of the
last weekend in the Torneo Apertura, and considering what some of the big clashes in the coming
round are likely to ... Continue reading →
No clásicos this week, but all the same the Torneo Apertura continues to heat up. Leaders

A group of young artists from Fuerte Apache, neighbourhood from where Carlos Tevez is from,
decided to honor the player with a giant portrait in the wall of Nudo 1, near one of the main
streets. They named their final work "San Apache".
I hate Boca Juniors but I love Carlos Tevez. How can you not love a player that works as hard as
he does and also doesn't take shit from anyone.
Sunday's matches began with another brilliant win for All Boys, who deservedly beat pre-weekend
league leaders Estudiantes 2-1 in Floresta in a thoroughly absorbing game I was there and that
match will be the subject of this week's Thoughts ... Continue reading →

Boca Juniors 3-1 Colon Highlights Argentina Apertura
Lots of action this week involving WCR Top 25 Clubs. Every single one of them are in action this
weekend and the vast majority of them are in action at midweek as well. In Germany, Italy and Spain
the midweek matches are domestic league matches. England, Scotland, France, Russia and the
Netherlands are having midweek cup matches.
This weekend, we still have no clásicos but there are a number of tasty ties all the same.

has admitted he'll probably sign, but surely ... Continue reading →
It's been a busy day. As well as making my radio debut (repeated on

After last week's contrasting results, in which Estudiantes lost to All Boys and Boca convincingly

Having just officially appointed as Aston Villa manager, Gerard Houllier doesn't seem to take
lots of time in building the team that he wants and one of the plan is trying to prize up Real
Madrid's outcast, Fernando Gago.
According to Spanish media, Villa are in pole position to sign the Argentinian midfielder who
isn't featuring in Jose Mourinho's current plan as the former Inter Milan coach seems more keen in
playing Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira and Lassana Diarra.
