The July issue of the ever-informative World Soccer magazine has a great front page feature: The 50
Greatest Derbies in World Football. Unfortunately, the full article is unavailable online so you'll
have to get yourself to a shop and dip your hand in your pocket to read it. But below is the final

This weekend Boca Juniors edged River Plate 1-0 in the latest edition of the Argentine Súper
Clásico. Today, we present an Argentine Soccer Babe Súper Clásico. We're not too
sure who these ladies are as they seem to be more MILF than babe but whatever. Enjoy!....CULO!!!
After a couple of months kicking heels and whiling away the time with friendlies, transfer rumours
and one or two actual moves, the wait is over. New boys San Martín de Tucumán will kick
off the Primera División A Torneo Apertura 2008 later today when they host Huracán. You
can follow the whole of the [.
Boca Junior's Juan Roman Riquelme had been arguing with 21 year old Boca fan Augustin Pozzetti
earlier in this home game vs Racing, so after volleying a 60th minute winner the playmaker ran 55
yards to point an angry finger at Pozzetti. Unfortunately, Pozzetti's fellow Boca fans then turned
on the non-believer and a fight broke [.
Boca Juniors midfielder Sebastian Nayar's decision to leave after playing only one game to
negotiate a deal with a European club has provoked an angry reaction from the Argentine club.
With just a few days remaining before the 2008 Torneo Clausura begins, some of the sides are still
going over their options when it comes to the formations and personnel for their opening matches.
No such trouble for Argentina's Olympic manager Sergio Batista, who already seems to know his
starting XI for Wednesday's match against Guatemala [.
Boca Juniors take on Fluminense in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-final on Wednesday
night, needing to win or get an extremely high-scoring draw in the Maracanã (the first leg was
2-2). Much later - a midnight kick off Argentine time - the selección will be renewing their
rivalry with Mexico in San [.
Well that was a boring two weeks, wasn't it? Or would you really rather watch national teams slog
it out against mediocre competition than see the best club teams compete against each other? We
didn't think so. There was one round of games for most teams after the international break. Let's
take a look at what happened:
1.
Happy new year, everyone. The year may only be two days old, but already 2008 is well underway in
the Argentine footballing world. One basic but important thing to mention first: new president
Cristina Kirchner's decision to bring a daylight savings system back to Argentina means the country
is now only two hours behind Greenwich [.

Eagle-eyed perusers of the page tabs along the top of the site will have noticed the addition on
Thursday night of our new map. This has been put together by Bill at Bill's Sports Maps, and he's
very kindly allowed me to include it here as well because we collaborated with some of the
statistics [...

There are multiple reports breaking out today in the Spanish language media including one the
national news agency of Argentina's web site as well as on ESPN Deportes website, that has the 29
year old Argentine playmaker moving from Boca Junior to somewhere in MLS for a transfer fee of $15
Million dollars.

este fin de semana estuvo lleno de gran fútbol y lleno de balón.
A friend in Houston sent this to us. It looks back to statements the Argentine made when Palermo
was in Houston.
Martin visited the city of Houston this past summer, he was here for
the FREE KICKS MASTER event and one of our guys was able to interview him in regards of a possible
move to the MLS and maybe the Houston Dynamo.
Rating: 3 (Possible)
According to this report, it is possible.
"The directors of the MLS are taking advantage of the impact caused by David Beckham's arrival, and
we are here to talk about that," said sports newspaper "Ole"'s director in USA.
There are three teams of the US league that will join the current 13 in competition.
The full fixture list for the Primera División A Torneo Apertura 2008 has been released.
Thanks to Seba for posting the fixtures when they were first announced in a comment last
night. Read on for the 'HEGS-approved' official list, with all the clásicos highlighted.
Except the single midweek date, which is noted, all these dates refer to [.
As if to prove that he can put together quite a handy team without including the Olympic-bound
Lionel Messi, Juan Román Riquelme, Sergio Agüero et al, Alfio Basile has named the
Argentina squad to face Belarus in a friendly in Minsk, two weeks from today (Weds). There are a
couple of surprises in the all-Europe [.
Mauro Martín, the current capo of Boca Juniors' barra brava, La Doce, was sentenced on Tuesday
to twenty days in jail for his part in a fight between his own barra and that of Vélez
Sársfield during Boca's 3-2 away win over the Liniers side on the 23rd April 2006.
Martín's full sentence includes twenty days in [.
The Argentina squad for the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay in Buenos Aires, and Peru in
Lima, has been almost finalised prior to the weekend's domestic action in Argentina, after which
three Boca Juniors players will be added to the list. Alfio Basile has called up Getafe defender
Daniel Díaz to replace Nicolás Burdisso, [.
1. (Last week: 1). Chelsea
Hey, what happened to all the Man Utd fans who were complaining because their team wasn't #1? The
Soccer Source ranking committee once again proved its mettle with the choice of Chelsea, which is
suddenly not looking very controversial after Blues saw off Man. City Saturday.
The highlight of Boca vs. San Lorenzo on Saturday night was a classic from the scrapbook: a free
kick taken from a collection of Juan Román Riquelme's finest, on the day the world's finest
playmaker returned to his boyhood club. One small difference, though: it was Claudio Morel
RodrÃguez, not Riquelme, who placed the ball [.
The past year and only 42 appearances in a Boca uniform has seen this young 19-year old
Argentinian midfielder - very much in the vein of Javier Mascherano at Liverpool and Fernando
Gago at Real Madrid - help Boca Juniors win the Copa Libertadores, while ALSO hoisting the World
Cup with the Argentinian U-20s.
Ladies and gentlemen, the world's best club football competition is upon us. No, of course I'm not
talking about the imminent knockout rounds of the Champions League, don't be daft. This week sees
the beginning of the group stages of South America's much more enjoyable answer to UEFA's
competition, the Copa Libertadores.
With the Clausura effectively over before the final weekend for Estudiantes and Boca Juniors as
well as newly-crowned champions River Plate, the summer transfer market has already begun. River
boss Diego Simeone wants to bring in a new goalkeeper, and has set his sights on Atlético de
Madrid's Leo Franco, whilst Boca and Estudiantes are [.
The 2008 Torneo Apertura kicks off on Friday evening, so I think it's about time for the annual
season preview, don't you? Long-time readers may notice that this is largely an updated version of
last year's potted histories, but I've added a few things - you can now find out how much I really
know [.
Argentine soccer has reached uncharted territory after victories by Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo
and Tigres on the last weekend of the regular season set-up an improbable three-way tie atop the
Apertura Standings.
Boca Juniors cruised to a 3-2 victory against Colon, San Lorenzo squeezed out a 1-0 win against
Argentinos Junior and Tigre held on for a 1-0 victory against Banfield.
Welcome to the year-end edition of the Top 25. With all but the English Premiership on hiatus this
week, we will not have a new ranking until 2009. So happy holidays and happy new year! Now let's
get to the rankings:
1 (1). FC Barcelona
This just in: Barca are awesome. They have passed every single test thrown at them this season, the
most recent one coming at Villareal yesterday.
With the vote on a $2.9 billion funding package that includes money for a soccer stadium less then
a week away, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz is pushing hard to make it happen. The crux of the debate
revolves around what the city will do with the site of the current Orange Bowl (which will be torn
down next month).
It's been an interesting few days whilst I've been away, and I hope I don't miss anything out of a
whirlwind summary: Saturday's superclásico in Mendoza was a thriller, seeing five goals and four
red cards as River avenged their 1-0 defeat of the Torneo de Verano with a 3-2 victory. On the same
day, [.
After last week's 2-0 loss in Santiago, Boca hosted the Chilean champions with at least one
psychological advantage - earlier in the week Colo Colo's Argentine manager, Claudio Borghi,
announced to general surprise that due to a falling out with the board, he'd be resigning his
charge of the first team after this match.
We received this by email. Terra is a pretty well respected site in Argentina. Schelotto leaving
would be a huge blow to Columbus's CONCACAF Champions League dreams unless he were replaced with a
player of equal quality at that position.
On to the email:
Ok i have some information, Rigth now Martin Palermo is not coming to MLS, he got 4 month of
contract with Boca Junior, But there is some body from MLS dealing with him to bring Palermo to
MLS.
River, Huracán and San Lorenzo all welcomed new signings on Wednesday, with Boca suffering a minor
injury setback to their pre-season training schedule. Meanwhile, Independiente have had another
hard day in training following Germán Denis's dog attack on Monday, and Germán Herrera, the
Argentine striker who's just signed for recently relegated Corinthians in Brazil, receiving a
somewhat backhanded [.
The publication of this editorial got pushed back by a few days because I was ill earlier in the
week not not up to spending too much time typing, but it's coincided nicely with the Arab new year.
We've got a few readers in that part of the world, so happy new year to all [...]
Oh, it's been a while. At long, long last the summer break is over, and I can get back to writing
about league action rather than transfer news and summer friendlies. There's been a lot of talk
about the new year's ticket price hikes - more on that at the weekend - but for now [...]
Either the world's going a little bit mad, or Pedro Pompilio is beginning to lose touch with
reality a tad. The identities of two players Boca Juniors may currently be considering for the
transfer market have been revealed, and they make for surprising reading. Both were born in South
America, but that's about the least surprising [.
