Yes, the Apertura's only just finished (well, if you're an Arsenal or Gimnasia fan, it hasn't even
finished yet), but already the fixtures for the 2008 Torneo Clausura have been released, so here
they are for your interest and enjoyment. The dates given for each weekend, as ever, are all
Sundays - fixtures will be [.
The traditional start to Argentina's footballing year, the Torneo de Verano ('Summer Tournament')
celebrates its 40th year in 2008, and the AFA have announced the fixture list for the mini-league,
which features the 'Big Five', on Friday. The tournament will run from the 11th January to the 2nd
February and matches will take place in [.
The draw for the 2008 Copa Libertadores - with Santander taking over from Toyota as title sponsor
- took place in Asunción on Wednesday, and Argentina will have six representatives in the
tournament - River Plate, Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo and Estudiantes all qualify automatically from
the 2006-2007 season, whilst Lanús and Arsenal de Sarandí go [.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto is a very popular man in Argentina right now. Eight months ago, he left
Boca Juniors, where he'd become one of the most succesful players in the club's history, to move to
Columbus Crew of the MLS in the United States. On Tuesday it emerged that his boyhood club Gimnasia
La Plata [.
Following training on Tuesday, Miguel Russo announced his starting XI for Boca Juniors' Club World
Cup semi-final with the African champions, Tunisian side Etoile Sahel. Boca's eleven is more or
less as expected in the defence and attack, but Russo's raised a few eyebrows with his midfield
selection, which sees a bit of a change from [.
At 7:30 in the morning on Sunday (Argentine time), Boca Juniors will take on A.C. Milan of Italy in
Tokyo for the final of the Club World Cup 2007. The right to be crowned champions of the world will
once again be played out between the champions of Europe and South America, in the third [...]
South America's grip on the Club World Cup tournament was broken in the revamped competition's
third edition on Sunday, with European champions A.C. Milan running out 4-2 winners over Boca in
easily the most entertaining final since the tournament was re-launched in 2005.

De verdad que da gusto ver este tipo de festejos.

Jesus balls! What a day! So many major and minor things to discuss....best start with the little
stuff to warm up. Just like before playing, right? - One little thing to keep an eye on: I
seriously don't know how teeny-tiny Major League Soccer (MLS) rosters will cope with the scheduling
insanity if [.
In the last hour or so, it's been confirmed that Miguel Angel Russo has parted company with Boca
Juniors, leaving the club's managerial post vacant. Earlier in the day, the Boca board had taken
the decision to sack Russo's two assistants, Marcelo Trobbiani and Guillermo Cinquetti (assistant
coach and physical trainer, respectively), as a condition [.
Another championship is over, and as the players (except Boca's) head off on their summer holidays,
it's time to reflect again on yet another thrilling short tournament. Unexpected champions was the
least of it - we've seen an avalanche of goals, players pushing themselves into the limelight and
yet more booing from the stands of the Monumental [.
Los aficionados del Boca Juniors no tardaron mucho en contestar a los de River, por lo de su
segundo barrio, la respuesta , la verdad era obvia.

In the end, it was a miracle too far for Tigre, who fell 1-0 away to Argentinos. At the same time,
in La Bombonera, Lanús were putting the seal on an astonishing Apertura by getting the result
they needed against Boca Juniors, away from home. José Sand's first-half goal was cancelled out by
Martín Palermo in the [.
It's a new era at Boca Juniors, where on Tuesday Pedro Pompilio, the man who played a major part in
Juan Román Riquelme's return last week to his boyhood club, was named the club's new president
after Mauricio Macri passed on the mandate to him. Elsewhere, River Plate are in trouble again and
Diego Simeone's [.
A couple of days after Estudiantes, Gimnasia and Huracán appointed their new bosses, Boca have
decided to get in on the act, and will be announcing Carlos Ischia as their new boss at 8pm on
Wednesday. It's an unusual situation, not only because the majority of Boca's fans would probably
rather not have Ischia, but [.
And so it arrives. In a few hours' time, either Lanús will be the champions of Argentina, or the
title race will be heading towards a playoff between them and Tigre. For that to happen, Boca -
with nothing but pride to play for - must beat Lanús in La Bombonera, and Tigre have to [...]
The most important score of the weekend, of course, was Lanús's 1-1 draw against Boca in La
Bombonera, which means they can break out the Queen CD in the dressing room for the first time in
their history. Elsewhere, though, Central also won a game, River took a pasting, and Independiente
and Vélez served up [.
Llevado de la mano de Kaká, reciente ganador del Balón de Oro 2007, el AC Milán se impone por
4-2 al Boca Juniors, tomando revancha de la final de la Copa Intercontinental de 2003. Por su parte
el Pachuca quedo...
River Plate have already got themselves a new manager in time for Christmas since the Apertura
ended, and on Friday, both La Plata clubs did the same, along with Huracán, whilst Boca were
closing in on the man to replace Miguel Russo. If they get their man by Christmas, one-quarter of
the Primera A clubs will [.
On Wednesday, Miguel Russo's twelve-month tenure at the helm of Boca Juniors was laid once and for
all to rest as Carlos Ischia was officially announced as the club's new manager. In an appointment
which has little to do with what Boca's fans, members, or even club legends like Diego Maradona had
to say on [.
The goals from the latest round of Apertura matches, including the one which gave Lanús their
historic title win, are online now, and can be seen through the TN website by clicking here. If you
read on you'll find the running order for this clip, as well as my personal favourite goals from
the weekend, [.
Etoile Sportive du Sahel 1 - 0 CF Pachuca It wasn't as if Pachuca didn't do itself, or the CONCACAF
region, proud last night. Outside the first twenty minutes and off the score-sheet, they carried
the game in terms of possession and aggression. In spite of the general advantage, however, Pachuca
couldn't force clear-cut [.
If you were thinking of a spring time trip to Buenos Aires, you're going to want to book the
weekend of May 4, which coincides with the 13th round of the Torneo Clausura and the
superclásico between Boca Juniors and River Plate. The event in question was listed as one
of the Guardian's 50 sporting events to attend before you die.
The Club World Cup has its first finalist, after Boca Juniors saw off African champions Etoile
Sahel with a performance that was more convinving than the 1-0 final score suggested. Etoile looked
like cause for concern before the match, having unexpectedly dumped North American champs, Mexican
club Pachuca, out in the previous round, but Neri [.
Italian giants AC Milan have won the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup following a comprehensive 4-2
drubbing of Boca Juniors at Yokohama International Stadium.
Veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi scored twice in front of more than 68,000 fans, but Brazilian
midfielder Kaka was the star of the show, setting up two goals and scoring one himself on his way
to receiving the Player Of The Tournament award.
...um...all I know about this game comes from FIFA.com's site; here, in fact. Some jackass (me)
blew setting the VCR, entering p.m. where he needed a.m. (Yeah, I'm still on old technology; I
also rocked K-Mart duds through elementary school and rode a hand-me-down girls bike with a
peppermint-candy banana seat for years; such trends [.

El equipo del Boca Juniors apenas y pudo romper el esquema defensivo de los tunecinos que muy poco
mostraron este mundial, y eso que eran los campeones de África.
Aquí el vídeo con las jugadas del partido:
Club Atletico Lanus won its first-ever Argentine league title after a 1-1 tie at Boca Juniors this
afternoon on the Apertura's final match day for both teams. It turns out Lanus would have won even
with a loss, as second-placed Tigre lost to Argentinos Juniors and the teams were three points
apart going into today's games.

* I kid. I kid. I just didn't get to it this weekend. It's only when the desperation gets one
poking under the cushions of soccertv.com that one truly realizes the full-time nature of the
global soccer calendar. I see now that waiting won't be at all necessary, not with the U.S. U-17s
[...]
* Or is it? I don't pay enough attention to how the International Date Line works, so maybe the
opening game already happened already, at least in terms of the date. Probably not, though...moving
on... Kick-off for the World Club Cup play-in, which pits Iran's Sepahan against Waitakere United's
(part-timers) from New Zealand comes [.
It's been a long few days since the last post here, and I apologise for that - internet access
proved even harder to get than expected over the weekend. At least the title was already decided,
eh? There were an impressive 21 goals in the eight matches played at the weekend, and you can see
[...]
Argentine giants Boca Juniors booked their place in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, but they
failed to turn on the style in their 1-0 win over Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.
Midfielder Neri Cardozo scored the only goal before a crowd of 37,255 fans at the National Stadium
in Tokyo, while midfielder Fabian Vargas was sent off for a second bookable offence with
twenty-five minutes remaining.
With the FIFA Club World Cup and the NCAA Championships done and dusted and half of Europe taking a
winter siesta, things look to have really wound down for 2007. Speaking specifically about the
U.S., a look at Fox Soccer Channel's 15-day domestic forecast says it all: the only thing more
pointless than an [.
The draw for this year's rendition of the Copa Libertadores (the "Champions League of the
Americas," for lack of a better comparison) was made earlier today. Not the entire thing, mind you,
because not all participants are known yet. This is thanks to different countries having different
ways of determining the qualifiers.
Ten days ago, there was talk that Miguel Ángel Russo's job at Boca could be in trouble. It took
one game one loss to make that come true. This evening, after meeting with Boca president Pedro
Pompilio, he stepped down as head man at La Ribera.
According to sources he was going to go into talks with the club president to talk about a new
deal, but there was a condition that the club wanted to implement which was the separation of coach
from assistant Marcelo Trobbiani and trainer Guillermo Cinquetti.
Boca Juniors striker Martín Palermo was charged with assaulting a hotel employee at the
Intercontinental Hotel in Buenos Aires, establisment that the club stays at prior to every match
within the city.
This occured Saturday when the club arrived prior to their match against Lanús.
The Soccer Source verdict: yes it is, but only from the semifinals onward. The seven team
tournament kicks off Friday in Tokyo and concludes nine days later in Yokohama. In the U.S., all
games will be telecast live on Fox Soccer World. The participants:
- Pachuca, Mexico (CONCACAF Champions' Cup winner)
- Boca Juniors, Argentina (CONMEBOL Copa Toyota Libertadores champions)
- Waitakere United, New Zealand (OFC Champions League winners)
- AC Milan, Italy (UEFA Champions League winners)
- Étoile Sportive du Sahel, Tunisia (CAF Champions League)
- Urawa Red Diamonds, Japan (AFC Champions League winners)
- Sepahan, Iran (AFC Champs league runner-up, made it in because Urawa would have qualified
automatically as hosts)
So why do we care about this?
