year is a particularly important one as it is the 50th edition of this prestigious tournament.

Finally the day is here, USA vs Trinidad. Big game for the USA, they need to win to help them
finish in the top three so they won't have to play a play in match vs maybe Argentina. Here is the
lineup;
----------------Davies--------Altidore-----------
Donovan--------------------------------Dempsey
-----------------Bradley-----Clark---------------
Bornstein----Bocanegra---Onyewu----Spector
-----------------------Howard--------------------
Big suprises here is Clark partnering Bradley Jr.
Ins and outs for the two giants of Argentine football: champions Boca Juniors appear to have lost
Neri Cardozo against their wishes, whilst new River Plate manager Néstor Gorosito is on
the verge of making his first signing, Colombian centre back Humberto Mendoza. Independiente have
some good news: Daniel Montenegro isn't going anywhere.

The Boca boys didn't have much to do yesterday (apart from their laundry, etc) since the AFA
postponed the start of the Apertura. So it was only natural that Javier
García, Lucas Viatri, Ricardo Noir and Juan Forlin turned up at the infamous DOT shopping
centre in Buenos Aires to reveal Los Xeneizes' new kit.

Boca Juniors' squad took off for Europe on Sunday in readiness to take part in the Audi Cup in
Munich (their first match is on Wednesday against Manchester United), but over the weekend there
have already been some Argentine clubs and players in pre-season action. River Plate beat Everton
thanks to a great Ariel Ortega [.
Manchester United will join Boca Juniors, AC Milan and Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup, a two-day
competition held at Munich's Allianz Arena to commemorate Audi's 100 anniversary. United will meet
Boca, Carlos Tevez's former club, on July 29th. While Milan take-on Bayern the same day. The
winners will play each other in the final on [.
Boca Juniors' goalkeeping crisis should shortly be put to bed after it was confirmed on Thursday
that they've agreed a fee with Spanish side Getafe to buy Roberto Abbondanzieri back. The Xeneize
will pay €300,000 to the Madrid club for their former custodian. Abbondanzieri, for his part,
had already pleaded with both sides to strike a [.

Shockwaves rocked South American football on Wednesday night as, almost unimaginably, an Argentine
club actually got through to the knockout stages of this year's competition (I know what some
readers are bound to say, but Boca's place in the last 16 isn't 100% secure quite yet). A 0-0 draw
with Universitario de Sucre proved enough, [.
It's crunch time as the most difficult stretch of world cup qualifying games so far for the US
approaches. The fitness of many players will be called into question as many players arrive late
right after playing for their clubs. Maurice Edu and Frankie Hejduk are set to miss these games for
their clubs due to injury -but that doesn't bode well for the US.
Back to the league after the thrills and spills of the international break. Three matches remain,
and this weekend the endgame gets going with two clásicos on Sunday one in La Bombonera, where San
Lorenzo will be the 'home' side, and one in Avellaneda between Racing and Boca. The clash between
River and Tigre [.
Well, the team with the better hair won.
Yes, we're still holding a grudge against Cesc Fabregas's barber. He hurt our feelings.
Never mind. Did you catch the first Confederations Cup semi final? It was a truly cracking game,
with the US NT bagging a big 2-0 win over Spain.
After the finalísima comes the rather more mundane business of recording the scores from the final
round of the 2009 Torneo Clausura. Vélez took the title and Gimnasia de Jujuy and San Martín de
Tucumán both go down, as we already know, but elsewhere there were wins for Boca and San Lorenzo,
one last humiliation [.
35-years-old and having given a good few years' service to Boca Juniors, Hugo Ibarra left the club
on Thursday after failing to come to an agreement over the new contract deal he'd been offered.
Where he'll end up remains to be seen, but the outpouring of thanks from the fans to El Negro has
been [..
That was quick. Apparently if you want a contract extension at Boca Juniors then the way you get it
is by announcing you're leaving the club, and then turning up again at the Casa Amarilla the next
day to see what the response is. As a result of this strategy, Hugo Ibarra will now spend [...]
Let's start off with a crazy one:

- The Dinho's bro and agent, Roberto de Assis is annoyed that
you think his bro is a Has Been and should be banished from the seleção forever. This
comes after the newspaper Sport alleged last week that the Brazilian is planning to
retire.
In an interview with TyC Sports, Inter defender Walter Samuel said the
following:
"I have the hope that I will return to the national team. One has to show their form with their
club team and then you'll see."
"I'm happy because I'm playing regularly which is something that didn't happen last season
because of injuries.
Champions League action dominates the news, but sending offs in Argentina, a new shirt for
Manchester United and more fan violence all make this week's Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Good

representatives go through to the quarter finals, but perhaps that's [.

It has been confirmed that this summer United will compete in the Audi Cup 2009, to take place
in the Allianz Arena. The tournament will take place over two days from July 29, with Boca Juniors,
AC Milan and obviously Bayern Munich the other participating teams.
United will play Boca and Bayern will play Barca in the Semi-Finals on July 29.
VS.
It is the most intense rivalry in the world of football and probably the best rivalry in all of
sports. Regardless of the standings this match will determine the bragging rights of Argentine
football. Here are some factoids about this great rivalry:

The First 1st Division Professional Superclásico = Sept.
The Boca vs River superclasico in the Bombonera ended all square on Sunday, with River Plate coming

A few important house notes before this long holiday weekend (Memorial Day in the United States,
and a Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom):
- The latest episode of the highly-recommended Soccerlens Podcast, hosted by
Stephen Darwin, features an interview with yours truly about the final weekend of the Premier
League, my predictions on how are going to get relegated, what team will give Man United a run for
the money next season, what position Liverpool needs to fill to have a strong chance of winning the
league next year, and much more.
Now that the 2008-2009 Premier League season is over, it's time to take care of some business.
Namely announcing the winners of the Premier Fantasy League (EPL Talk private league), the winners
of the two I Know The Score (IKTS) leagues and a look at how well you, the readers, and I did in
our predictions for the final 2008-09 Premier League table.
Who will manage him next season?
Clarin has the countdown (In Spanish). Carlos Ischia leaves after the Clausura ends. Eleven
candidates have been shortlisted to replace him. The money is on Alfio Basile since Carlos Bianchi
has a clause that says that he will never succeed Ischia.
The end of the European season has brought with it the usual spate of embryonic transfer rumours,
so since there's no Argentines Abroad this week, let's take a (very) quick look at some of them to
give you a bit of reading matter today, shall we? Boca Juniors have had a few offers for players,
