Fulham fans may have seen their beloved former manager Roy Hodgson struggle badly to adjust to life
at one of the league's big boys, with Liverpool fans not exactly welcoming him into their lives on
Merseyside, but it is struggles closer to home that will currently be occupying the minds of the
Fulham faithful.
Fulham could be handed an early Christmas present this year, with the news Phillipe Senderos is
edging closer to making his long awaited debut for the club. The defender joined Fulham on a free
transfer from Arsenal in the summer, only to rupture his achilles heel in training days before the
start of the season.
Two certainties this afternoon. Firstly, that Sparky will be telling his midfield to "let them
know you're there" and secondly, that Mark Schwarzer will have an outstanding game. In my opinion,
it is upon these two personalities the game will hinge.
Hughes is man under pressure, having seen his team fall to one point above the relegation
zone.
Nasri will the focal point
Tonight is another chance for Arsenal to move to the top of league. While it may not be a
permanent one considering Manchester United's game have now been postponed, it will nevertheless
put some pressure on the current leader. Chelsea plays at the same time and if they match our
result, they will remain ahead of us by virtue of better goal difference.
As a Fulham supporter, this season has been a painful one.
The Cottagers are hovering just above the relegation zone, sorely lacking the sort of player
that can turn a draw into an all-important three points.
It seems I'm not the only one that thinks Mark Hughes' Fulham side is in need of some
inspiration during the January transfer window.
Collective "awww" as Roy Hodgson and Fulham are reunited at long last.
What, you're not feeling all gooey and gushy inside? Heartless bastards, the lot of you.
I've actually been a bit surprised at the lack of the aforementioned gushing in the build-up a
few mentions here and there, but for the most part, the aim has been on the need for Liverpool to
start to play with some sort of consistent quality.
The penultimate club to be considered in this series is Fulham. Last season, the Cottagers were
reaching for the stars. A fairytale run that led them to the Europa League final had the fans in
awe. This season, however, the Cottagers are reaching for something, but it's only the rope that
will lift them away from relegation.
Here's a guest post by Dominic, otherwise known as ImperialWhite. It may be a little out of
date, but that is completely my fault holidays and all. Enjoy!
As I write it's freezing cold and snowing. But in Fulham there's a drought. A goal drought –
just 17 goals – level with Birmingham having played one more, and only Wigan have fewer (15).
Looking at the table and seeing Fulham currently in 18th position halfway through the season it
makes sense to be concerned as a Fulham supporter. The next thing many fans are going to look at
are the reasons why Fulham are in the relegation zone. I plan on sharing my points on why I believe
Fulham are where they are, and where I think they will end up.
