to utter a derogatory comment.

9. Schteeeeeeve McLaren talks jibberish
No-one really blamed Steve McLaren for moving abroad after the wally-brolly failure of England to
qualify for Euro 2008. In a path trodden by his one of his predecessors, Bobby Robson, the
ex-England boss ran to the relative safety of the Eredivisie after his international experiences to
take charge of little known FC Twente.

South Africa 2010
Almost twenty years ago England went to Poland knowing that a draw would qualify them for Italia
90. A backs-to-the wall performance and the magnificence of Peter Shilton ensured they had their
point and the team then went onto reach the semi-finals of the tournament that arguably saved
English football from itself and ultimately elevated it to today's dizzy heights.

Bobby Robson's passing was an event charitably marked by the soccer world. He left the world at 76
as one of the major coaches in the world with a CV as impressive as any.
While his two heroic World Cup exits dominated most of the obituaries, his achievements in coaching
winning teams in four countries are to my mind his greatest.

I hate the tabloid media with a passion, perhaps almost as much as I hate Man Utd. Take the
crocodile tears shed over the recent death of Bobby Robson. The very same tabloids who in 1988
following Englands draw with Saudi Arabia declared that he was a "plonker" (The Sun) and the Daily
Mirror roared "In the name of Allah, go" People get the tabloids they deserve, they also know how
to wind up Gooners.

Lung cancer kills Bobby Robson
Universally popular soccer coach Bobby Robson died on Friday from lung

In major tournaments earlier this decade, the Brazilian press consistently irritated me by heaping
praise on the England side. They're much better than they were, they've made great technical
progress, it's no longer just kick and rush - that type of thing.
Firstly the pallid, stagnant football produced by the Sven-Goran Eriksson's side in its three
big tournaments was unworthy of such plaudits.

Bobbby Robson, 1970
It seemed nothing more than a routine friendly, remarkable only perhaps for providing the first
proper international meeting between Canada and England in the modern era (earlier encounters were
played between representative sides). Â And while the result was closer than most bookies had
predicted—a 1-0 win for England with Mark Hateley's goal from a Glen Hoddle freekick in the 59th
minute saving face for Sir Bobby Robson's team—the warm-up match for the World Cup in Mexico
played on May 24th 1986 at Swangard Stadium BC would have been routine to just about everyone.
