How does a 20-team MLS sound to you as a stopping point? Enough? Too many?
Either way, you might just need to formulate a personal opinion on this matter, because it looks
like official MLS policy is leaning in on the big 2-0.
MLS commissioner Don Garber was in Dallas over the weekend for the Red Bulls-FCD contest.
The older folks in my family always said that death and birth come in threes. The recent, premature
loss of Bobby Rhine may have been the 1st of a troika for me as news came this a.m. of the passing
of one of my favorite DJ's, France's DJ Mehdi, a vital member of the Ed Bangers crew.
If you have no idea what Mehdi sounds like check out his video for "I Am Somebody"; it's probably
his most accessible song and the video is really playful, really fun.

The FC Dallas community suffered another loss of life on Tuesday when 18-year-old academy player
Jose Perez was killed in a car accident while on the way to practice at San Jacinto College.
"Today is another very sad day for the entire FC Dallas community," Hunt Sports Group vice
president Dan Hunt said.
It has been confirmed that former MLS Dallas standout and current team broadcaster Bobby Rhine
has passed from an apparent heart attack.
A friend of TSG and huge figure in US Soccer.
Our condolences.
Former FC Dallas player and current broadcaster Bobby Rhine passed away last night after suffering
a heart attack at the age of 35. He played over 200 games for the MLS team over his 10-year career,
and moved into the front office and later match commentary post-playing career. I heard his
broadcasts a few times and he seemed to be coming into his own as a commentator.

Just heard on World Football Daily that Bobby Rhine, former FC Dallas player, face of that
franchise, TV commentator, Around the League contributor and all-around good guy has died of a
sudden heart attack while vacationing with his family. He was 35 and leaves his wife and two
daughters.
If you haven't heard already there's some heartbreaking news out of Dallas this morning: FC Dallas
announcer & former player Bobby Rhine passed away yesterday after suffering a heart attack. He was
35 years-old.
My introduction to MLS was a Dallas Burn – Tampa Bay Mutiny match at the Cotton Bowl during my
college years in 1998.

Bobby Rhine, former FC Dallas player front-office figure and broadcaster, passed away Monday
evening of a heart attack at age 35.
Known as a hardworking, geniune and caring individual to those who worked with him or played
against him, Rhine's passing at such a young age has stunned the U.
It has been a dark day here in Dallas. The news came down to me early this morning that former
FC Dallas midfielder and current team broadcaster Bobby Rhine had passed away due to a heart
attack. Rhine was at the beach with this family when he passed away.
I shared my thoughts on Rhine over at SBNation.

When it was discovered today that Bobby Rhine passed unexpectedly of a heart attack, it hit the
greater MLS community fairly hard. Rhine had played 10 years with Dallas and just recently entered
the broadcasting field as a rapidly rising star. Fans in Dallas are holding a memorial this
evening. His family is asking for donations made in his name to the FC Dallas foundation.
Today the soccer community is mourning the loss of a legend. Bobby Rhine passed away at the age
of 35. His influence on the soccer community in the Dallas area was and is immeasurable. I was not
lucky enough to call him a personal friend but I tell you what the man never forgot who I was. My
family first met him when my daughter was taking camps at FC Dallas.
This blog covers the soccer media, so we would be remiss if we didn't note the premature and sad
passing of FC Dallas broadcaster Bobby Rhine. Only 35 years old, Rhine spent more than 10 years
with the Dallas organization, as a player, front office memeber and broadcaster. From the team
website: "It is an extremely sad day in the history of FC Dallas," said Doug Quinn, President and
CEO of FC Dallas.
I, like many folks here in Dallas, am still wrapping my head around the news of Bobby Rhine
passing away. I shared some thoughts yesterday but after watching this video (h/t to Buzz at 3rd
Degree for sharing it earlier), I really felt I needed to post it here as well. It truly sums up
who Rhine was on the field.
It's with heavy hearts that we bring you this week's show. The ATL team reacts to the sudden
death of FC Dallas legend & broadcast Bobby Rhine and covers the news from the past week in MLS. On
the phone this week, correspondents from Philadelphia, Houston, New York, Vancouver, Colorado, Salt
Lake, Seattle, Portland and Los Angeles.
Like so many I was shocked yesterday when I learned of the passing of former FC Dallas player and
current color commentator and play-by-play man for the team's television broadcasts Bobby Rhine.

Our thoughts, prayers and well wishes go out to the family of Bobby Rhine. We thank him for all
that he's done for soccer in this country. His passion and dedication to the sport will be
missed.

It's a busy, busy day. And still a somber one for Bobby Rhine's sudden and tragic death. I've
known Bobby since he was an MLS rookie, when an FC Dallas assistant pointed to him on the preseason
practice field and said "He's gonna be a pro for a long, long time, trust me." Later, Bobby became
a friend and a guy that I, like so many others, enjoyed being around.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Aug 30, 2011) US Soccer Players -- Like most of you, I only knew
Bobby Rhine as a soccer player. Considering the outpouring of sentiment after news of his death,
that's a shame. What we've learned from those that did know him is that we've lost a person who was
well respected by his peers, admired even, and for many represented the best American soccer has to
offer.
The longstanding FC Dallas man for all seasons and play by play announcer passed away on Monday
evening. The public face of FCD he was a much beloved figure amongst fans showing an unsurpassed
humility and love for the game and club. From all accounts he was the sort of unspoiled figure one
dreams off in an age of diminishing loyalties.
In this week's show, Rachna, Amanda, and Kirsten review the USMNT's just-ended Costa Rica and
Belgium friendlies. They discuss the (hopeful) end of the YSA chant, the eternal defense problem,
and Hope Solo on Dancing With the Stars. Finally, they take a moment to remember FC Dallas star and
CSRN friend Bobby Rhine.
Former FC Dallas forward Bobby Rhine died Monday of an apparent heart attack. Rhine, aged 35, made
212 league appearances for FC Dallas, where he later became a club ambassador for the MLS side
after retiring from his playing career. ...
IN MEMORY OF BOBBY RHINE
Sadly, long time Dallas player and staff member Bobby Rhine died of a heart on Monday while
vacationing in Florida with his family. He was just 35 years old, and was married with two
children.
Buzz Carrick who has cover Dallas from possibly day 1 directs us to a video of Bobby Rhine speaking
that Carrick feels is a great example of who Bobby was.
I made mention of it in a tweet and the news actually broke earlier this week, but I feel like
we should pay our respects to former FC Dallas striker Bobby Rhine who died suddenly at the age of
35. Joining the league in 1999, Rhine was amongst the very first crop of MLS players to help
solidify this league during it's most turbulent times.

Chivas USA are looking to qualify for the playoffs, but they'll have to be without their star
defender Heath Pearce for at least a month.
Pearce pulled his left hamstring in the club's August 27th defeat to Real Salt Lake while
running in the open field.

Your Friday Free Kick comes in a bit differently today. Rather than discuss current events in the
league or happenings on national scale, today we'll take a slightly different rout.
This week has seen some sad moments that have us casting our eyes downward in both sadness and
remembrance.

Big week and weekend of games in MLS, so we'll start right in with a look at attendance.
Starting with the Monday game, more than 20k were in KC for the Galaxy and Sporting match. 16k
came to PPL Park for the thrilling 4-4 draw with the Revs. The game was rescheduled from a couple
of weeks ago when Hurricane Irene blitzed through the Northeast.
