The FC Dallas community suffered another loss of life on Tuesday when 18-year-old academy player Jose Perez was killed in a car accident while on the way to practice at San Jacinto College.

"Today is another very sad day for the entire FC Dallas community," Hunt Sports Group vice president Dan Hunt said.

The older folks in my family always said that death and birth come in threes. The recent, premature loss of Bobby Rhine may have been the 1st of a troika for me as news came this a.m. of the passing of one of my favorite DJ's, France's DJ Mehdi, a vital member of the Ed Bangers crew.
If you have no idea what Mehdi sounds like check out his video for "I Am Somebody"; it's probably his most accessible song and the video is really playful, really fun.

Big week and weekend of games in MLS, so we'll start right in with a look at attendance. Starting with the Monday game, more than 20k were in KC for the Galaxy and Sporting match. 16k came to PPL Park for the thrilling 4-4 draw with the Revs. The game was rescheduled from a couple of weeks ago when Hurricane Irene blitzed through the Northeast.

I made mention of it in a tweet and the news actually broke earlier this week, but I feel like we should pay our respects to former FC Dallas striker Bobby Rhine who died suddenly at the age of 35. Joining the league in 1999, Rhine was amongst the very first crop of MLS players to help solidify this league during it's most turbulent times.

Sadly, long time Dallas player and staff member Bobby Rhine died of a heart on Monday while vacationing in Florida with his family. He was just 35 years old, and was married with two children.
Buzz Carrick who has cover Dallas from possibly day 1 directs us to a video of Bobby Rhine speaking that Carrick feels is a great example of who Bobby was.

The longstanding FC Dallas man for all seasons and play by play announcer passed away on Monday evening. The public face of FCD he was a much beloved figure amongst fans showing an unsurpassed humility and love for the game and club. From all accounts he was the sort of unspoiled figure one dreams off in an age of diminishing loyalties.

Considering the outpouring of sentiment after news of his death, that's a shame. It's a busy, busy day. And still a somber one for Bobby Rhine's sudden and tragic death. I've known Bobby since he was an MLS rookie, when an FC Dallas assistant pointed to him on the preseason practice field and said "He's gonna be a pro for a long, long time, trust me." Later, Bobby became a friend and a guy that I, like so many others, enjoyed being around.

Today the soccer community is mourning the loss of a legend. Bobby Rhine passed away at the age of 35. His influence on the soccer community in the Dallas area was and is immeasurable. I was not lucky enough to call him a personal friend but I tell you what the man never forgot who I was. My family first met him when my daughter was taking camps at FC Dallas.

When it was discovered today that Bobby Rhine passed unexpectedly of a heart attack, it hit the greater MLS community fairly hard. Rhine had played 10 years with Dallas and just recently entered the broadcasting field as a rapidly rising star. Fans in Dallas are holding a memorial this evening.
