(Click here for better resolution.) I expected this quiz to be hard, because we don#8217;t play the
MLS game very much with the Weekend Quizzes. And it was hard. So I [...]div

Could Bobby Convey be headed home to Philly? (Getty Images)
The speculation has begun for the Philadelphia Union and their expansion draft that takes place
tomorrow afternoon. The 15 clubs released their protected list last night and now the Union have a
full list of guys that they can get 10 players from.

The battle for American winger Bobby Convey is going to be waged on the West Coast.
While the San Jose Earthquakes' interest in Convey has been well documented this month, now
there is word that the Los Angeles Galaxy also want the former World Cup midfielder.
Remember Bobby Convey? I'm not trying to be funny when I say that I completely forgot that he's at
Reading. But I bet I would think of him more often if he were at San Jose. I hope it's just gossip
though; hopefully he can hang on in England until he can be Philly's first signing.
From Tribal Football:
Reading and US International Bobby Convey is a major target for the San Jose Earthquakes.
According to Center Line Soccer, "a source with knowledge of the negotiations, says the Quakes
are intent on bringing Convey, currently with English side Reading, back to MLS".
The San Jose Earthquakes signed midfielder Bobby Convey, today, a veteran US International released
on February 6th from Reading F.C. "It is rare to be able to acquire a U.S. international in
the prime of his career," said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. "When he
became available we jumped at the opportunity to add [.
We're continuing our season previews today with a look at last year's whipping boys expansion team,
the San Jose Earthquakes, who are looking for more than they got out of last year. Our San Jose
blogger is Ian, who recently started his own Earthquakes podcast. Be sure to check it out. And

Like a lot of other bloggers out there today, I'm tipping my hat to Santino Qauranta for the goal
against Honduras last night at RFK. To score your first international goal in front of your family
and home crowd after all the sh*t he's been through has to feel amazing. The only thing that would
make it better would be for him to have a vajeen so that the Lifetime Original movie "Pills, Tats
and Balls: The Santino Qauranta Story" could be greenlit by Monday.
Time to round out the end of the work week with some links and thoughts. I have a couple MLS
thoughts and one US national team item to discuss tonight.

I love DC United and how they market their club. They've put little stickers on newspapers
throughout DC with the date of the US Open Cup final against Seattle.

Good afternoon folks. Apologies for the lack of posts today. I'm using the relatively slow news
day to take care of some SBI business.
The San Jose Earthquakes look set to continue a busy week of acquisitions by making one of the
biggest of the MLS off-season.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Earthquakes are closing in on a deal to sign
midfielder Bobby Convey. The long-rumored move comes on the heels of San Jose completing the
acquisition of American striker Cam Weaver from Norwegian club Haugesund.
Seattle travels down to the Bay Area to face San Jose for the third match this season with the
Heritage Cup on the line, while many would think this is a match made for victory it is not. What
it is is an average home team hosting an average road team. While victory [...]
It's finally official: Convey is coming to San Jose. No word on the bird though.
If you want fireworks in the MLS you set off roman candles before kick-off. A slippery pitch,
sleepy Revolution, and poor Earthquakes finishing did little to raise the standard of MLS
football on this opening night in San Jose. In a game that saw more sliding and body checks
than the Sharks - Stars NHL game [.
Game preview at American Soccer News:
Luxury buses serving beer are available to take Fire fans to home games, but let's stay sober
for a moment. The two teams the Fire have beaten this season are at the bottom of the Eastern and
Western conferences, respectively, and have a single point between them.
Is this an American thing?
If you can't even win ugly, at least lose cheap.
Maybe it is Win Ugly's uglier cousin.
Here's the back drop:
The San Jose Earthquakes, rebuilding their franchise in their 2nd year back in the MLS, are at
the bottom of the table. Out of a dozen games they've lost 7 and only picked up 9 points.

You've got to be kidding. For the second time in less than a week, Conor Casey scored on a
penalty kick deep into extra time as the Colorado Rapids tied the San Jose Earthquakes 1-1.

I used to be a big Bobby Convey fan and so did a lot of other people a few short years ago. Along
with Cam Weaver, I thought he was going to be a big story in San Jose this year but this season has
been something of a disappointment for me...and the San Jose Mercury News.
He still a youngish guy so he's got a bit of time turn it all around but maybe a change of scenery
to somewhere that doesn't also have Darren Huckerby on the flank would help him out.

It's hard to decline as a club after being an expansion team in 2008 but the 2009 version of the
San Jose Earthquakes did just that. They became the first team to lose more in their second season
than in their expansion season.
