All things must pass an apt epitaph for the career of a man who used the ball like Paul Scholes
did in his pomp, a midfield hub that could ping a zephyr-like pass across the width of a crowded
football pitch and land it on a pound coin 99 times out of 100.

Gary Lineker is one of the players that I admire very much, not just for his great scoring ability
and elegant finish, but much more for his attitude in general on the pitch and outside it as well.
In 1990 he was awarded FIFA fair play award as he was never had a red or yellow card in his career.
By 1990, he was already a hot target for defenders boots and elbows.
Liverpool 1 Man United 3, January 30, 1960
You've got to love the Scousers. When Liverpool were drawn at home to Manchester United in the
4th round of the FA Cup in January 1960 it was immediately declared an all-ticket match, naturally
enough as United had already attracted the two largest league attendances of the season, despite
being in the bottom half of the table.
"You have to respect Sir Alex's achievements at United though, don't you?"
Well no, not at all actually. I can't understand why any normal person wouldn't hate the scum.
They represent everything that has been wrong with English football since 1990. The evil empire,
and not a football club, but a Chinese tourist's idea of what a football club is like.
Super Star title in the world of football should not be used a lot, and in my opinion, should be
given very conservatively with players such as Platini, Cruyff, Zidane, Ronaldo1, Beckenbauer,
Bobby Charlton .......
Messi at the age of 23, going to another country for the intention of playing against their team,
but then missing the game because of light injury, and still ending up by a hero, with so many
people asking for his autograph.
There was a tiny, insignificant incident in one of the first matches I saw George Best play for
Manchester United that has always haunted me, in some ways more than than the many moments of
genius I witnessed in his brilliant subsequent career. It occured in March 1964 against Fulham as
United were desperately trying to keep alive a faltering campaign to win the league title, having
recently unexpectedly lost both a Cup Winners Cup quarter final against Sporting Lisbon and an FA
Cup semi-final against West Ham in successive matches.

Here's a look at the MNT in England feature 'Tim Howard's Keepsakes':
What was striking about Tim's media room - beyond that he has Galaga and Donkey Kong, which is
awesome - is that you could tell how much thought he had put into it. He is clearly a considered
man, and you can see the appreciation and respect that he has for other's talents and achievements.
Liverpool joined the grand coalition attacking Manchester City's £400m sponsorship deal with
Etihad, with managing director Ian Ayre saying yesterday that Uefa should investigate whether it is
an illegal deal under its financial fair play regulations.
Speaking in Kuala Lumpur -- where on Monday Arsene Wenger accused City of "financial doping" --
Ayre suggested that the 10-year sponsorship agreement with Etihad may be an illegal 'related-party'
deal, which financial fair play specifically outlaws.
What caught my attention recently is the name of the stadium that is hosting a game that I am
watching at the moment of Peru vs. Colombia game in Cordoba Province, it is Mario Kempes
Stadium.
I thought that it is very interesting and a great way of honoring the legendary players by naming
stadiums after them, may be more touching than building a statue like Eusebio or giving "Sir" title
like that of Bobby Charlton or Alex Ferguson.
We all understand that agents, and indeed all middle people, are leeches on the sport of football,
grabbing their inflated percentages while skirting between the black and grey markets, bribing and
threatening people and corrupting the game.
They force players to adhere to certain match data as basic sabermetrics measures the obvious, they
enter into third party arrangements and other forms of disguised dual ownership of players to
confuse both the footballing authorities and the tax regime, they control aspects of the media
sometimes psychopathically so, and many persuade players to underperform so that insider gambles
may be achieved on what the fan thinks is an authentic football match.
The only thing that matters in the North East this weekend
This weekend will see the Wear-Tyne derby as Sunderland and Newcastle look to grab local
bragging rights once again. The last derby game, at St. James' Park, ended up with Sunderland on
the end of a 5-1 drubbing and although that was considered one of the most anticipated derby games
in recent seasons, Sunday's game should be just as heated for much different reasons.

You can see here why United were so keen to poach Pogba from Le Havre. The French teenager,
discovered in a kickabout in the ghettos of northern Paris, looks a special talent and whilst he
won't feature in United's first team this season, I expect him to step up in 2011-12.
Every single player who has won the Ballon d'Or from the English league has played for
Manchester United.

1956: Stanley Matthews (Blackpool at the time)
1964: Denis Law
1966: Bobby Charlton
1968: George Best
2001: Michael Owen (Liverpool at the time)
2008: Cristiano Ronaldo
Matthews was a war time guest player for United whilst Owen is a current United player.
I must first make a confession. Although I am a Manchester United fan I have a soft spot for
Tottenham Hotspur. You see, I worked in London and lived in Tottenham High Road about half a mile
away from the Spurs ground. For many years I would be found at White Hart Lane watching the stars of
the day. I saw Manchester United with Sir Matt Busby arrive, with Bobby Charlton, George Best,
Dennis Law (My
Perhaps more than any other club, Manchester United has been blessed with many leaders over the

Harry Redknapp has criticised criticised Wayne Rooney for swearing after scoring a hattrick
against West Ham.
"I don't know why he did that," said Redknapp. "I don't remember Bobby Charlton doing that when
he used to smack goals into the top corner from 35 yards. Why do these young players have to be so
angry with the world?
My mind suddenly went back to the sixties with images of George Best, Brian Kidd, Bobby Charlton,
Denis Law and John Aston terrorising opposition defences with a frightening array of fire power.
It...

Wembley was a happy hunting ground for Man Utd in their first Champions League victory in 1968
when they beat Benfica, 4-1. Bobby Charlton with a brace, George Best, and Brian Kidd scored for
Utd while Graca pegged one back for the Portugese giants.
Best was a thorn dazzling with his footwork and Charlton was a sublime finisher.

Great goals always stand the test of time. The initial feeling of awe and ecstasy they induce, not
to mention the artistic brilliance that make them unique, mean that they can never be

Sir Alex Ferguson has responded to claims by Benfica coach, Jorge Jesus, that Wayne Rooney plays
like a Brazilian or an Argentinian, by suggesting that whilst he is typically British, he is
similar to Pele.
"I think he's a typical British player," said Ferguson. "There have been British
players over the last few years, maybe for the last decades, who have similar great qualities that
make them great players, whether it's a Gascoigne, George Best, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law.

Michael Vaughan is the England cricket captain, and he was able to Thursday night's function at Old
Trafford to celebrate 25 years of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign at Manchester United.
Vaughan wrote of the lessons learned from the Manchester United manager.
It was a huge honour for me to be in that room, filled with the great players of the last
quarter century and beyond.
