Every year at the Development Academy Showcases, scouts from all over the world come to get a
look at some of the country's most talented players. There were more than 300 scouts from Major
League Soccer teams, colleges and foreign clubs at the 2010 Winter Showcase in Phoenix, Ariz. U.S.
Soccer employs its own armada of scouts, with a total of 65 being used throughout the country to
help identify and mentor the top youth talent.
Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena was named MLS Coach of the Year for the third time,
winning the 2011 award after leading the Galaxy to the Supporters Shield as the team with the best
record in the MLS regular season. The Galaxy's 19-5-10 record was also the second best record in
league history.
U.S. Soccer posted the induction speeches of the five men who were enshrined in the National
Soccer Hall of Fame on Saturday in Foxborough, Mass.
That includes Milwaukee coaching legend Bob Gansler, who was voted into the
Hall in the builder category for his contributions to the game in the U.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The National Soccer Hall of Fame inducted Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope, Earnie
Stewart, Bruce Murray and Bob Gansler in a ceremony held at Showcase Live in Foxboro on Saturday.
Jones, Pope and Stewart were inducted in the player category, while Murray was inducted on the
Veteran's ballot and Gansler was inducted as a builder.
Legendary Milwaukee soccer coach Bob Gansler will receive his latest – and
perhaps greatest – honor Saturday.
Gansler will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Gillette Stadium
in Foxborough, Mass. The ceremony precedes the U.S. national team's friendly against world champion
Spain.

Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope, and Earnie Stewart were elected in the Players category, with Bruce Murray
as a Veteran, and former National Team coach Bob Gansler as a Builder.
Recently, I looked at every team from the past five years in my April 1 column on the subject. I've
since gone back and done it for every year and every team, though I'm still not 100% sure that I
got every single nationality change. At least those from American to foreign, and vice versa.
There's Arturo Alvarez, Jeff Cunningham, Taylor Graham, Pablo Mastroeni, and Preki.
Kansas City continues their long road trip this week with their first trip to Vancouver to take on
the Whitecaps. Vancouver is 1-1 after the first two games, winning on opening day at home against
Toronto and losing last week against in Philadelphia. They are being hit by injuries and
suspensions this week and could be in a similar situation that KC was in last week when it comes to
their center back set up.
Fittingly, Bob Gansler was lecturing at a coaching clinic in Florida when he heard the news on
Tuesday.
Gansler, who coached the Kansas City Wizards (now known as Sporting Kansas City) to their only
two MLS Cup appearances — winning the championship 2000 — was elected Tuesday to the National
Soccer Hall of Fame.
Milwaukee's Bob Gansler has earned yet another accolade in recognition of his
remarkable coaching career.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2011 has been announced and all five inductees have ties
to the US National Team. Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope, and Earnie Stewart were elected from the general
ballot. Former US National Team player Bruce Murray joins them from the Veteran ballot. Former US
National Team coach Bob Gansler was elected as a Builder.
Last week, I picked 18-man all time rosters for each MLS team, with the stipulation of using each
player only once. Why not do the same for head coaches? This won't be nearly as long or tough.
Let's take a look.
Right off the bat, it's more simple because several teams have only one possible selection (which
means that I have no other choice but to use them).

Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope and Jason Kreis highlight a strong group of first-timers among the
nominees on the 2011 U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame ballot, which was released Thursday afternoon.
Jones, the United States' all-time leader in caps with 164, played in three World Cups and was
one of the most recognizable and distinguished players of his era.

NSCAA Premier Diploma – A coach's perspective
I attended the NSCAA Premier Diploma from January 3-9, 2011, in Ft.
Today is testing day at the NSCAA Premier Diploma in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
We woke up early this morning for an 8am start on the pitch and got right into it. Each
candidate is given a topic they have to coach, and 15 minutes to both run a practice session and
then coach that topic in an 11-a-side game.
From January 3-9, I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale taking the NSCAA Premier Diploma. Check in
throughout the week as I'll be blogging from the course and as always, tweeting at @vandey01. On
the eve of the course, I'm excited to to learn who my staff instructor will be. Here are the
