Half rolled cigar

0
As spoken by Robert Evans in the amazing 'The Kid Stays in the Picture' -- "There are three sides to every story, yours, mine and the truth." The way you want to look at the USMNT's 1-0 win over Cuba Saturday night in Havana falls somewhere in that middle. On the one hand, the result is the result. Click to continue reading...

Youth vs. Experience

5
No Cooper.  No Adu.  No Altidore.  Really?  To the disappointment of many American fans (myself included), Bob Bradley continues to call up players like Brian Ching, Eddie Johnson, Frankie Hejduk, and Eddie Lewis over younger players.  The most common excuse given by supporters of Bradley's strategy is the experience argument. Osorio ready for hostile reception on return to Chicago

1

Juan Carlos Osorio will be making his first trip back to Toyota Park since leaving the Chicago Fire to take over as coach of the New York Red Bulls and the reception for him isn't likely to be a warm one.

Bob Bradley compared to Bruce Arena

3
Here is an excellent article from Kartik Krishnaiyer on the MLS Talk blog that goes through the differences between the managing styles of Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, and also provides some interesting thoughts on the recent callups that Bob Bradley has made for the U.S. National Team. For the most part, I agree with Kartik's column, but I disagree with the comments he made about Clint Dempsey. Click to continue reading...

Bradley vs Arena: Different Styles

2

Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching celebrate a goal against Barbados, the only game which a current US striker has scored a goal in the last 14 months for the national team.

Bob Bradley's tenure as United States National Team manager has gone about as well as can be expected: A CONCACAF Gold triumph, several victories in the "old world" and thus far a smooth run in qualifying including an elusive win over Guatemala.

FC Dallas Coach Is in a Chatty Mood

0
FC Dallas coach --and published author-- Schellas Hyndman is not afraid to take a kick to the groin. He is also unafraid to take your questions. He'll be chatting live on ESPN.com at 3p.m. EST today, so feel free to ask him how grateful he is for Bob Bradley's reluctance to further cap Kenny Cooper and exactly what type of steel his balls are made of. Chivas USA CONCACAF Champions League Gameday Tuesday

0

No column today in observance of Labor Day, but I headed out to Chivas USA training Monday anyway for a few brief words and a riddle:

Q: What's worse than losing in the preliminary round of a supposedly prestigious new competition few people yet care about?

A: Losing in the preliminary round of said competition to a team few have heard of from a small country undistinguished in soccer terms.

Michael Bradley to Germany

0
German club Borussia Monchengladbach has come to an agreement with Dutch side Heerenveen on a transfer deal for U.S. international midfielder Michael Bradley, multiple media outlets are reporting. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Bradley, 21, traveled to Germany earlier today to undergo a physical, having already agreed to personal terms with the German outfit. Click to continue reading...

U.S. squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers

6
Here's a link to an article that contains the U.S. National Team's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago. The squad looks very similar to the recent one that was called up for the Guatemala game and I still would like to see some different players included. I don't really know what is accomplished by including Brian Ching, Eddie Lewis, and Frankie Hejduk. Click to continue reading...

Never Too Early To Start Second-Guessing Skeletor

1
Sure, the U.S. MNT doesn't play Cuba until September 6, but like a kid a week from Christmas, I just can't help speculating as to what Santa (er, Skeletor, er, I mean Skipper Bob Bradley) will deliver to me in the starting lineup. He's checking his list (some say, twice) and soon we'll find out who has [. Click to continue reading...

No Adu for the USA?

6
By JAMES CLARKCoach Bob Bradley's latest USA Men's National Team roster for the upcoming CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago has a curious absence: One Freddy Adu. Based on his performances in the USA's first two group games at the Beijing Olympics (Adu was suspended for the third match, down to his own petulance), this sort of beggars belief. USA VS Cuba: USA Roster

Sorry for this post coming a few hours after the official announcement.  I had some things to take care of, but now, here is the roster for the USA's upcoming match vs. Cuba.  The roster is after the jump. US Squad for Qualifying Announced

1
US Manager Bob Bradley has recalled Rico Clark and omitted Kenny Cooper, Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore in his 20 man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers versus Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago. Marvell Wynne and Michael Orozco have also been called into the team. Both Wynne and Orozco are in my mind deserving [. Click to continue reading...

Subotic: Has The US Lost Him Already?

22
After last night's excellent showing by Oguchi Onyewu in Standard's 1-0 Champion's League loss to Liverpool, his stock is peaking at just three days before the transfer deadline. Another American defender in Europe is also on the rise as young Neven Subotic continues to show he is a force to be reckoned with in the Bundesliga. Click to continue reading...

Who should Bob Bradley call up against Cuba and T&T?

7

With three points in the bag after last week's 1-0 road win against Guatemala, the U.S. men's national team heads into the next set of World Cup qualifiers knowing that two wins could all but lock up advancement into the Hexagonal round.

Should the Deuce Be Cut Loose?

0

The lone American goal scorer from World Cup 2006 now has consistently played so poorly for the national team if the opponent is not Barbados, that his presence seems to actually help stagnate the side. Dempsey's last good performance for the National Team against a decent opponent was last October in Switzerland.

Bob Bradley’s Tactics: Set Pieces Make the Difference

Under Bob Bradley the USMNT has become reliant on set pieces for scoring and quite possibly more dependent on its center backs than any top 50 national team/photo from US Soccer For all the criticisms of Bob Bradley's tactics by commentators including myself, the continued success rate the United States enjoys on set pieces is remarkable. U.S vs Guatemala review

6
Here is Jack Bell's article from the New York Times that reviews each player's performance in the game with a rating scale of 1-10, which is commonly done in soccer. To begin, I believe that Jack's ratings vary a bit too much. Its usually pretty rare that players on the same team get a score of 3 and also 8. Click to continue reading...

US v. Guatemala = Anger

25
Wow where should I start.  Well first off I would like to say that I hate Bob Bradley.  The team that was chosen for this match didn't get it done at all.  This was one of the worst games I've ever seen and the tactics were absolutely horrid (if there were any).  The only reason [...] Click to continue reading...
