Fernando Torres at his best, was an absolute terror. Just ask Nemanja Vidic. Or even the whole
Manchester United team for that matter. There is no fluke that El Nino became the fastest Liverpool
player to reach the 50-goal mark. His searing speed, excellent touch and great dribbling skills
made him a Kop hero as soon as he arrived at Anfield.
Carroll celebrates with Bellamy and Henderson...Liverpool put
three past a lacklustre Wolves side yesterday at a freezing cold Molineux. Andy Carroll got himself
on the score sheet whilst Wolves struggled to find a goalscorer at all. The win moved Liverpool
into 5th in the table.
Wolves had less worries than originally thought injury wise as Frimpong ended up being able to
start in midfield for McCarthy's side.
Before I go on, let me state for the record that I swore just as much you when Wenger took off
The OX last weekend, he messed it up, no doubting that but please don't tell me he done it by
purpose or that he just cannot cut it anymore. He made a judgement call and got it hopelessly
wrong, that's life.
Liverpool has decided to proceed with their original, nine-year-old stadium plans once they have
secured the finance to start construction.
That means the alternative, futuristic stadium designs proposed by former owners Tom Hicks and
George Gillett Jnr have been ditched for good.
It also ensures there will be no fresh planning application required by the current American owners
to restart construction once a lucrative naming rights package is in place.
It is virtually impossible to forecast the next misdemeanour, potential or otherwise, to emerge
from Port Vale's boardroom, without descending into the realms of bad-taste fantasy (one of the
major protagonists revealing themselves to be a woman trapped in a man's body, for example).
Presumably believing Christmas to be "a week to bury bad news," Vale chairman Peter Miller
informed everyone, including all fellow board members apparently, that he'd re-mortgaged the club's
Vale Park ground to facilitate a £277,000 loan covering "short-term" cashflow problems, caused by
the collapse of the much-vaunted "investment deal" with American sports turf firm Blue Sky
International (BS).
WEEKEND WRAP
Carlo Ancelotti had been jobless for the last seven months, watching reruns of
'The Sopranos' and your aunt's episodes of Coronation Street up until yesterday. Ouiiiii, ce
n'est pas une blague... Paris Saint Germain officially decided he was the man
to take over the reins of former coach Antoine Kombouaré, who failed to transform
the Qatari-owned club into the new Ligue 1 Galácticos!
Day eleven. Guided by a star of wonder, the SPL Advent takes a trip to Perth.
Perhaps we should all read a Christmas lesson from the good book of McDiarmid Park.
St Johnstone have lost both a talented young manager and a steady, long-serving chairman this
season.
And, so far, it's been more evolution for revolution.
Day ten of the SPL Advent. Rangers. Dreaming of a Whyte Christmas.
Rangers offer another chance for one of these half season reviews to become more a work of
financial reporting. I'll try to resist.
We know the taxman cometh, we know Craig Whyte himself rarely seems short of a battle to fight and
we know that other companies and individuals have raised concerns over Rangers' financial position.

starts in the boardroom, and then travels to Canada, Italy, and England. Which organization offered
MLS the most money during recent broadcast rights negotiations? Fox Soccer, according to this

Blackburn Rovers 1-2 West Bromwich Albion Premier League 17th December 2011
The Venky's support for Steve Kean has shown little sign of weakening this season, at least from
the outside. However, behind the doors of the boardroom at Ewood Park, the Indian chicken overlords
must surely be concerned after yet another league defeat for Blackburn.
n this week's review of the footballing action, we take a look back at the first El Clásico of
the season, wonder what has happened to Bolton and hear about a clash in the Ajax boardroom.

Poor Steve Bruce is a victim of geography
Football management is a bit like ancient Rome. Once the mob turn against you, then it's only a
matter of time before some little Caesar in the boardroom gives you the down turned thumb. Steve
Bruce didn't stand a chance when he took over at Sunderland because he's a Geordie.
Any bets on this re-union at White Hart Lane? Greg appears as 'deep throat' Meyer, this time,
going underground for the inside story of the comings and goings in the courts and in the
boardroom: of the wheeler dealings above even Harry's head. He bestrides the whole of Europe and
ranges from South Korea to Turkey, from the attractions of birthday girl Bo Derrick, to the
Tottenham High Rd.

You'll Never Walk and Moan
Like many of you, I have spent this season constantly screaming at the telly, swearing at the
woodwork and tearing my hair out at every missed opportunity. Draws against newly promoted teams, a
thrashing at Spurs, poor finishing and lucky wins through penalties and opposition red cards have
defined the past 4 months as a LFC supporter.

£10,000!
That is the sum Hibs are reputed to be asking for their "return" friendly against Real Madrid. Hibs
earned the right to command this fee on that night a few weeks ago when they not only defeated but
thoroughly outclasses the team which is generally considered to be one of the world's greatest.
So the AGM has been and gone, unfortunately I have had to rely upon other peoples' accounts and
comments, but it seems pretty clear that there is a bit of a vacuum in our boardroom in certain
areas of skill. Arsene was impressive as always, there was a lot of talk of a united front which is
reasonable, but certain key failings were avoided in a way that was slightly disrespectful to the

Sunday 30th October 2011, White Hart Lane. 4pm Kick off Live on Sky Sports 1HD,1 and in 3D
The mighty Lilywhites take on their West London rivals, QPR, at the Lane on Sunday a day before
Halloween, hoping to continue to give Spurs fans a treat rather than trick.
So another Arsenal AGM passes with more waffle than you would find in Belgium.
One thing we did learn was the need to oust Peter Hill-Wood from his role as chairman because,
from what I saw, he was a joke.
I mean the old boy could barely read out the resolutions of the meeting from his notes and he
missed out the agenda of re-electing Stan Kroenke, the majority shareholder, on to the board.
Revealed: Proof that Rooney COULD play at the Euro 2012 and the Olympics and that Fergie
knows it!
Wayne Rooney may be a naughty boy, but he's box office. The clamour for him and David Beckham to
represent Team GB will not die down. Fergie claims it is impossible for Rooney to play in both the
Euros and the Olympics.

TGIF-thank Gooner it's Friday, returns after the International break, and with the amount of
tension in the air that befits a real crisis at Arsenal. Crisis on the field through injuries,
crisis in the stands with fans divided, and crisis in the Boardroom as the prospect of a Boardroom
struggle becomes more possible than probable.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has paid a glowing tribute to the club's owners as they prepare to
celebrate a year in charge of the Anfield outfit.
Saturday's eagerly-anticipated Premier League clash with Manchester United marks the anniversary of
the arrival of John W Henry's Fenway Sports Group on Merseyside.
Liverpool owner John W Henry admits he knew 'virtually nothing' about the club or English football
before completing a takeover in October 2010.
His Fenway Sports Group (FSG) helped to oust fellow Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks from the
Anfield boardroom last year.
Their arrival was greeted with much fanfare in the red half of Merseyside, with it felt that
changes at the top were vital if the club were to move forward on and off the field.
Alisher Usmanov wants to increase his Arsenal shareholding in move that could spark a boardroom
power struggle at the Emirates.
The Daily Mail claims that the Uzbeki billionaire , the club's second biggest shareholder, is
trying to increase his stake to 30 per cent. He owns just over 29 percent but will write to the
club's smaller shareholders this week, offering to buy shares at £14,500 each.
I've never been a great fan of Boardroom directors and owners at soccer clubs that
pretend to know the game and how to run a football club, and probably more so since the advent of
the "Super Owners" who bring colossal amounts of money into a club to radically transform the
playing staff almost overnight, so it is with a certain level of enjoyment that I'm watching
developments at Ewood Park, Blackburn, as the club struggles to get themselves off the bottom of
the English Premier League.
After months of turmoil – preceded by years of worry and struggle – Port Vale's tale could
be nearing a happy ending, provided the right protagonists hold their nerve and the decision-makers
do something like ‘the right thing.' When last we were in Burslem, boardroom changes were afoot,
with the prospect of two new directors, both popular with supporters campaigning for boardroom
personnel changes.
The blonde bint on Sky News sports round-up keeps banging on about the attendance last night.
Just seen the papers and they are happy to highlight this too. Especially the Sun. Yes, there were
15,000 or so empty seat but that means 46,000-odd full ones. For a Carling Cup game against
Shrewsbury that ain't bad.
Stockport County entertain Grimsby Town at Edgeley Park in the Blue Square Premier this evening,
in a match which hints at the extent to which the fortunes of clubs can wax and wane over a period
of time. Ten years ago, both clubs were in what we now know as the Championship. They start this
evening as non-league clubs, and not exceptionally successful ones on the basis of their starts to
the season.
My last article showed how Liverpool have improved across the board during Kenny Dalglish's first
27 games in charge, but how does Dalglish's team stack up against Roy Hodgson's? This comparison of
each manager's first 27 games provides the answer, and it's a lot closer than you might think.
Hodgson was constantly denigrated by fans but as the figures below show, on some levels, his
results were not too dissimilar to Dalglish's:
KEY POINTS
* Under Dalglish, Liverpool score more, concede less, win more away games and achieve a higher
points-per-game average.
Various comments on this site have alluded to a break down in relations between Spurs Chairman
Daniel Levy and manager Harry Redknapp. In particular, there may have been issues over the Luka
Modric affair where the chairman maintained his stance throughout, insisting that the player wasn't
for sale whereas Harry offered suggestions as to how difficult it was to keep a man who isn't happy
at the club.
By Andy Brunning
Now that deadline day's out the way, it's time to take a look at who's feeling smugly
self-satisfied about the whole affair and who spent the small hours of last night crying into their
pillow at the injustice of it all. Here, in no particular order, are the four biggest winners and
losers to emerge from yesterday's dealings.
There's something about Juan Mata which screams "Spanish Jack Wilshere!" but
apart from looking a tad bit like each other (here we go with the Twin
Spotting again...) there are some key differences. Mata primarily operates in the
left wing while Wilshere is an attacking midfielder but those are forward positions nonetheless so
perhaps they should meet and have a cuppa!
The pleasure of seeing Spurs play football. White shirts, navy blue shorts, a proper game.
That's all I ask. Not so much the victory, not even its emphatic nature, but just to know that our
season is under way and a sense of how we are and what's to come.
Monday's cloud of Great Depression, created by an unhealthy combination of high quality mystery
drama and an increasing sense of personal anxiety, has blown away.
