With the sale of midfielder Maurice Edu still in holding over a work permit, Toronto FC is trying
to figure out what to do with that $5 million transfer fee. Apparently they are looking to go
green, as in installing natural grass at BMO Field. Mo Johnston, director of football for Toronto
FC, said Tuesday he [.
Last night saw American and English flags unfurled at Toronto's BMO Field for the 2008 MLS All-Star
game, with nary a sight of the red and white until after our guests' anthems had been played. The
home crowd, unaware of this odd little 'arrangement', vented at first by booing, then by singing
the Canadian anthem over-top those of the visiting nations.
I've gotten several emails about this article in the Globe and Mail today about BMO Field possibly
being expanded in the coming year. Thanks to those who spotted this article today and sent it over.
Anyways, as the article states that the whole process is in some early stages but a possible boost
in seating capacity [.
What can we say other than we called it.
While it didn't go down as part of an epic 3-way trade involving Brian McBride, our sources were
right in that El Pescado still ended up with a new northern pond.
Read more about that here.
We hope he likes the water temperature there.
We now have official confirmation in the form of this report that one of our rumors from last year
is in fact true.
Although still in the exploratory phase, the idea is to boost capacity at the $72-million stadium
by 50 per cent to 30,000 seats from 20,000, officials confirmed yesterday.
I feel as though the day after the MLS All-Star game I need to start announcing clean ups in aisle
nine or something. So many stories from the game and the surrounding festivities this week. I kind
of think we all underestimated just how big of an event this really truly was this year. First off,

As the growth of MLS has happened so has the growth in the number of Soccer Specific Stadiums.
Indeed, the fact that we are even here talking about a league is because MLS shifted their business
model to one which would demand every club eventually play in a Soccer Specific Stadium or a
suitable stadium that they controlled as far as revenue and scheduling.
If your interested,Toronto FC travels West to play Western leaders Real Salt lake. A team like
Toronto that have yet to loose a game at home. For Toronto this isn't good, they have been hurt by
the absences of Maurice Edu and Marvell Wyne who are on Olympic duty for the US in the upcoming
Beijing Olympics.

BMO built with football in mind

TORONTO — Toronto Argonauts co-owner Howard Sokolowski insists the notion that BMO Field
was intended to be a soccer-specific stadium is incorrect.
Toronto FC created chances and missed them. Were awarded a penalty and missed it or rather Joe
Cannon guessed right and brilliantly saved. But through the whole afternoon as i watched on the CBC
i felt like i was watching football played with funny rules.Today's objective was to play a full
ninety five minutes with a wet blanket draped over you.
As Toronto FC continues to thrive in Major League Soccer, another Ontario city wants to join the
MLS expansion fray. Ottawa, the capital city of Canada, has scheduled a press conference for
Tuesday morning likely to announce their bid to win one of the next MLS expansion teams.
The main proponent of the plan appears to be Eugene Melnyk, the owner, governor and chairman of the
Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League.
If you were planning on getting season tickets for Toronto FC you better have picked those up
already - other wise you are out of luck.
TFC play at the 20,000 capacity BMO Field. They restrict the number of season tickets sold
to 16,000, all of which have already been purchased for the 2009 season.
Away support in MLS will be under the spotlight soon when Toronto take a couple of thousand fans to
Columbus for their season opener. Yet Toronto's own front office is restricting away travel to BMO
Field from opponents, and MLS headquarters seems disinterested in doing anything to assist those
who want to journey to watch their team.

of the 2008 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game Thursday, July 24, beginning at 7 p.m. ET from BMO Field in

For our Canadian and MLS readers. From Prozone,
Toronto FC has become the first team in Major League Soccer (MLS) to sign up with the full
ProZone3, multi-camera system. The eight cameras, strategically installed at the BMO Field, track
each player's every movement during a match to provide the most extensive information ProZone
provide.
Oh the irony....As a stadium in Mormon Utah opened last night with alchohol consumption at an all
time high for RSL home games, Toronto's BMO Field has had its license to serve revoked at the next
game vs Chicago.
That is if this anonymous email is to be believed:
BMO FIELD HAS HAD ITS BOOZE LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR OCT 18 GAME VS CHICAGO DUE 2 MULTIPLE INFRACTIONS
OF THEIR LICENSE

I was listening to the Soccer show on the Fan 590 out of Toronto via podcast yesterday. Its a one
hour soccer show broadcast weekly on Thursday evenings. One of the guests was Canada's senior team
coach Dale Mitchell. He was asked by the Shows hosts Nigel Reed and Bob Iarusci why Canada's first
World cup qualifying game against St.
There is something sweet brewing down by Lake Ontario. That once wonky home team is showing signs
of coming together on a fast-track schedule that not even the crazy optimistic few were ever
predicting. We fans spent the winter complaining about the lack of ingredients going into the
stew-pot, but if this continues who cares about the slow cooking method that got us to this point ?
The Canadian men's team wants to make their first world cup appearance since 1986 and they think
playing at Montreal's Saputo Stadium is the way to do it.
Tonight sees them take to the Saputo grass pitch for the first time as they try to finish off St
Vincent & the Grenadines in the return leg of a two-game series and many players think this field
will give them what they need to win.
If you were unaware, that TFC actually had a game yesterday. Put up your hands up in the air, don't
be shy and now look to your left and then to your right, if you actually have anyone beside you, i
can guarantee that both hands are up or at least one of them [...]
That green stuff is FieldTurf. That black stuff is the rubber gunk they pepper into the FieldTurf
to make it softer and give the blades more support. And that shiny circular thing? That is the
"lucky quid" (a pound coin) that some traveling West Ham hid in the corner of BMO Field's
pitch yesterday in their attempt to make there own luck tonight against the All Star team.
Hear that sound? Its the sound of a cash register running again and again as Kenny Cooper scores.
Another weekend and another brace from Cooper, this time on the road in arguable the toughest venue
in MLS BMO Field. A pair of late second-half goals from Kenny Cooper led FC Dallas to a 2-0 win.
Cooper [.
BTW: this is our 1,001st posting. The Jeff Cunningham official trade post was number 1,000. Good
luck Toronto?
The long march begins again for the US MNT, which kicks off the semifinal round of World Cup
Qualifying with a match at Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City tonight at 10p ET (ESPN2) against
the host country's chapines.
The Yanks are 10-4-5 all-time vs. Guatemala in a series that began in 1977 with four straight
losses to the Central American nation.
Image via Wikipediathe red bulls earned themselves some new respect in last night's tie with
toronto. one of the biggest differences was the fact that we fought back from a goal down ON THE
ROAD. that in itself is something to celebrate.
we also handled the crowd at bmo field. constantly referred to as "one of the best soccer
crowds" in mls, that translates from the canadian to "one of the biggest a**hole
crowds" in mls.
Much has been made of Toronto's crowd since they joined MLS last year. But what are the roots of
their supporter culture, and is it "authentic"?
Now that the Euro fun and games are over, I'm trying to catch up on all of the stuff I've missed in
the past few weeks.
Toronto FC
Toronto continued their quest for a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League with a 1-0 loss to the
Vancouver Whitecaps at BMO Field on Tuesday. Vancouver's goal came on a 36th-minute penalty after
Jim Brennan was called for holding Vancouver's Jim Clarke in the 18-yard box.
Major League Soccer's All-Star squad will face off against Premiership club West Ham United on July
24th from Toronto, Canada. BMO Field is home to second-year franchise Toronto FC. The
atmosphere will be electric as home fans and privileged ticket holders cheer on the best
of MLS. Below follows an in-depth look at some of the key players [.
Back in May we brought you the story about this. Since then there was a protest at the All Star
Game. Nevertheless the plans may still be moving forward against MLSE, and Major League Soccer
Commissioner Don Garber's wishes

Here's a rumour that just won't go away. Talk of Toronto's CFL franchise moving digs from the
stadium that they can't fill to something slightly slimmer is nothing new and would of course be
ridiculous - Argo's suits likely enamoured with the idea that a stadium can indeed be
filled with 'football' fans.
