The U.S. soccer scene that Thierry Henry will discover is a substantial notch above the scene
that David Beckham came upon just three years ago.
Is it me or does he looke extra surly?
C.D. MOTAGUA 2 - TORONTO FC 2(TORONTO WINS 3-2 ON AGGREGATE)Toronto FC are a funny club. On days when you expect them to plough through the opposition, they
fail to show up. Majority of their league wins are scrappy 1-0 affairs.
Toronto FC pulled off an opening game surprise in Group A, beating Cruz Azul at BMO Filed. With
Toronto having to reshuffle their offense, they got a 3rd minute goal from Martin Sirac and another
from Mista in the 43rd to take a 2-0 lead into the half. Jon Conway almost had the shutout, but
Christian Gimenez scored in the 89th.
Yesterday's official MLS Best XI was just the appetizer platter. Here's the main course: The
Daily Soccer Fix Best XI. Could being named to this lofty list be a potential high water mark
for some of these fellows? Perhaps.
But alas, as always, there's no cash prize involved. Enjoy:
GOALKEEPER: How in the world a man can set a league record for best goals against average over a
season and not win Goalkeeper of the Year, only MLS can explain.
De Ro perfects the look most TFC supporters have
Remember a few weeks ago when Toronto FC Konsültant Jürgen Klinsmann was waxing on about the
pre-Christmas signing of our new head coach? Ah... good times. While the future wasn't exactly
bright (since Tom Anselmi and ML$E were still involved) it was at least something to look forward
to.
The Sports Business Journal is reporting that BMO has re-upped its sponsorship of Toronto FC
through the 2015 season. BMO will remain on the front of the TFC jersey. The deal is worth a
reported $4 million per year, a dramatic increase over the previous $1 million to $1.5 million.
The deal also puts TFC with the Galaxy at the top of the sponsorship pyramid.
TORONTO FC 1 - HOUSTON DYNAMO 1Canadians are good at two things on our national holiday: drinkin' beers and fightin'! Down at
tonight's match at BMO Field - TFC were all outta beers! In a move that is sure to finally endear
the beautiful game to Toronto's affluent "Hoser" community, The Reds' punctuated their Canada Day
matchup against Houston Dynamo with a sweet little hissy scrap.
- Past week's results:
- Toronto 1-1 Houston - A fairly slow match at BMO until the 62nd minute when a double red
card left a 10-on-10 affair. Two goals off headers coming from a corner, Toronto extended their
undefeated streak to 7 and continues to pick up critical points at home.
What the hell is it with rain and TFC matches. Sure I haven't been at a home game since Canada Day,
but its as if you can't have rain with TFC. People at the Farmers Almanac take note, bumper crops
are sure to break Tuesday night.
After the room temperature display in hot-as-f**k Chester, PA, I wonder if the mighty reds will
retain their incredible form at New Fort York (aka BMO).

Good Morning! The Red Bulls are back in action today and it's an early one (1pm ET) @Toronto. The
Red Bulls are coming off that tough home loss against the Los Angeles Galax, while TFC is coming
off a mid-week home win against Mexico's Cruz Azul (in CONCACAF Champions League Action).
" You off then? Don't let the 5 Year Plan hit you in the..."
Do you remember where you were when the Berlin Wall came crashing down? Well you're spending time
reading a football blog so you were likely watching Eintracht Frankfurt v. VfB Stuttgart in the
1989 Bundesliga, but either way, today was Toronto FC's Berlin Wall.
TTS No. 1: That I was switching around Saturday and missed the moment BOTH coaches got
thrown out of the DC United-Houston contest. That's a moment I want to see! Getting screwed out of
it is like being in the bathroom at the Lakewood Landing when some big-spender buys a round for the
house.
2010 - nothing to LOL at
If you are reading this within earshot of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment's downtown gold and
diamond encrusted lair - those alarm bells are real. This is not a drill. For the first time, ML$E
head honchos, who just happened to be hosting Major League Soccer bosses, witnessed a very sparsely
attended BMO Field last night.
Goats on top of Asses. Think about it... well done.
CHIVAS USA 3 - TORONTO FC 0
It's late in the season. It's late at night. Chivas USA didn't want to be there. Toronto FC didn't
want to be there. I didn't want to watch. Neither did you. As two pretty woeful teams heading
nowhere fast played out the string on Saturday night, we decided to present this post-match report
with the same amount of effort put in by Maple Leaf $ports and "Entertainment" in building TFC over
the last five years.
A soccer rivalry is brewing between two of Canada's biggest banks, CIBC and BMO.
Who knew Nick Garcia was a balloon pilot?
To terribly paraphrase The Clash (the band not San Jose) "If they stay we'll still have
trouble - but if too many stay it will be double". Anyone with even a passing interest in the
local side knows Toronto FC is up Mo Creek without a paddle.
Canadian brothers in arms is a post from: Just Football
Julian de Guzman (above) is a Canadian international. His brother Jonathan meanwhile
declared for the Netherlands. What's the story there? Making his debut for Just
Football, Tom Victor reports on the very different paths of this intriguing football
brotherhood.
Congratulations to the Colorado Rapids, 2010 champions of Major League Soccer. The franchise
were awarded their first title after a 2-1 win in Toronto over FC Dallas, with extra time needed to
separated two teams that had drawn their regular season matches. On this edition of the Major
League Soccer Talk podcast, myself and Christopher Riordan look back at Sunday's match at BMO,
talking about the ups and downs as well as how these two finalists will be remembered.
