Remember you're a Womble! After the atrocities that met us at Milton Keynes last weekend, it was
time to begin the quest for real football. The only place that the quest could possibly begin was
at AFC Wimbledon, home of the real Dons, the Wombles.
Wayne O'Sullivan has left Stevenage and joined Blue Square South side Braintree. O'Sullivan only
moved to Boro in January after Peter Taylor brought him in from Hendon, but struggled to make an
impact at Broadhall Way. His signing was one for the future, but he showed a lack of strength at
this level and although [.

Taxi for Berbatov Nobody died, no one got the sack, no one's house was repossessed and no one got
turned down for a role in Hollyoaks, but this morning at 9am we held a minute's silence in the
office. Not for love, for money, or for ambition, but for football. Why? For the moment Sir Alex
decided to act as a chauffer for his one and only Dimi, football as we know it ceased to exist.
To many cooks What do David Pleat, Darren Barnard and Colin Lippiatt have in common? For fear of
legal recriminations Ill tell you; while ones done it at Tottenham, the other two have made a
living from it in Non League Football and all with varying success.Their roles? Director of
Football. Its a position thats been made infamous over the past couple of weeks by resignations at
both Newcastle and West Ham, so is it a job really suited to the game at the top of the pyramid,
let alone at grassroots level?
Some might say I was fortunate enough not to have witnessed the impossible job first time round,
but sat squirreled away on ITV4 this week I got to see second hand the car crash telly that
documented Englands attempt to qualify for the 1994 World Cup in America, and call me a sad
sentimental old fool, but I still hoped the outcome would be different.
I once sat on a dusty seat at the back of New Writtle Street Stadium in Chelmsford cradling a cold
glass of lemonade thinking life couldn't get much sweeter. My dad had just opened up the ground for
the first time that season and I'd just finished cleaning every one of the wooden seats in the main
stand.
Is your club one them? Four or five top Non League clubs are on the brink of going under, that's
the stark warning this week from one Chairman involved in his own financial battle.
Whatever your love affair with Grays owner Mick Woodward, if he's right in his assertion, then a
mighty black hole is about to rock up underneath the grassroots game.
Football is the best part of Christmas! Ive got a blank weekend. Great, that means a day free to do
absolutely anything. I can do Christmas shopping, catch up with friends and enjoy an all too
infrequent trip to see the Clarets, if they were still in the Cup, or the trophy, or any other
fixture you come to mention.
It's that time of year again when your team heads out to the most remote of locations to play out a
meaningless goalless draw against the local non league pub side. So what's the point pf the
pre-season friendly? Is it worth parting with a fiver to watch your whole squad take on Kettering
Town?
It's what the game is missing My mum says she can always tell when Im lying. She spoke these
child-crumpling words as I tried to blame the cat for knocking over a priceless vase from the Ming
dynasty, or possibly BHS (so hard to tell the difference now a days). My reaction? Of course I did
the honourable thing and went red and blamed the rabbit (Ive acquired one of those now).
I'm doing a detox. No fatty foods, white bread, sweet things, chocolate, especially no chocolate.
I've got headaches, sweaty palms and I'm drenched in copious amounts of masking perfumes. A detox
is meant to be good for you, it's meant to be. But I'm not finished yet, I'm taking out the
unhealthy, unvirtuous things in life and adding one more.
It's all about entertainment It was the front page of the Sun, of the Mirror, even the Telegraph
got in on the act with a mention or two; Laura White booted off the X Factor and the baying masses
weren't happy.
Now, I have been known to watch the reincarnation of Search For A
Star and yes Laura shouldn't have been voted off.
Blinder Mk Dons - Paul Ince Paul Ince will no doubt be a man in demand after clinching promotion
with the MK Dons after coming from behind twice to win 3-2 at Stockport. Before the start of the
season you could of got odds of 33-1 for the Guv'nor to be a future England manager.
Let the games begin! How can an only slightly above average striker cost the same as a vacuum
cleaner mans earnings (albeit a rather trendy and revolutionary cleaner). The ridiculous amount
that bought Keane and the ludicrous offers still being bandied about for everyone from Kaka to
Ronaldo show all is well at the top of the game.
Not on your life! In a mad fit of pique I bought two Madonna programmes for £25 EACH. I DON'T
EVEN LIKE MADONNA, but wave a programme in front of my nose and I would imagine it's somewhat like
a red light to a desperate old man.
Boro travel to Essex tomorrow night to face Grays in the visitors first televised game of the
season. Boro have hit some form of late and a win at the Recreation Ground would be their fourth in
a row and could put them as high as 11th in the Blue Square Premier, just 2 points away [...]
I heard a rumour Should you know whos putting money into your club? Should you know whos left out
of the team and why? Should you know whos pulling the strings and whos taking up the slack? Just
how much is it acceptable to tell the fans of a football club, and how much would you want to know?
Here's a little something that made me chuckle: He's making a list, he's checking it twice he's
going to find out who's naughty or nice 'cause SANTA CRUZ is coming to BLYTH.
There are some big issues in the world of Non League Football at the moment; unpaid players wages,
not enough people through the gate, taxes, floodlights, respect.
On the surface the
game we all love would seem to be in its most precarious position but after a year like 2008, in
truth it's never had a brighter future.
