U.S. Under-23 defender Andrew Wenger, who was called in once again to the U-23s this month for training in Carson, Calif., is also taking home some collegiate hardware on the side.
The junior out of Duke won the Hermann Trophy on Friday, an honor that is given to the top NCAA Division I soccer players.

The quest for college soccer's top individual award has been narrowed to three competitors.

Duke's Andrew Wenger, North Carolina's Billy Schuler and Creighton's Ethan Finlay were named finalists for the Hermann Trophy, emerging from a list of 15 semifinalists that was released earlier in the week.

Duke couldn't have started its ACC Conference showdown with Virginia any worse, and also couldn't have finished it any worse.

Virginia saw a second-minute goal from midfielder Brian Span open the scoring and give the Cavaliers the only lead it would need. Duke fought bravely in the second half, and outplayed the visiting Cavs in the second 45 minutes, but wasted chances doomed Duke to a 1-0 loss.
