I've really enjoyed blogging about youth soccer these past few years, but it has been a lonely
existence. I've found a few blogs by Soccer Moms and sporadic posts from youth soccer coaches on
personal blogs, etc. However, I never found anyone else blogging about youth soccer most of the
time, or even some of [...]
Josh at Throughball takes US Soccer to task over their disregard for the many soccer blogs out
there covering US Soccer on a daily basis. Clearly US Soccer can do more to leverage the
SoccerSphere and expand the reach of US Soccer online. SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "US Soccer and
the SoccerSphere", url: "http://onthepitch.
If you looked closely last week when Major League Soccer was pimping out the newly-unemployed Jack
Stewart as their candidate for Cosmopolitan's Bachelor of the Year, you may have seen links to 2
photo galleries entitled "The Men of MLS".
Featuring candid and posed shots of a variety of players with varying degrees of good looks, most
shots in the album had a production quality that would be on par with that of Deb from Napoleon
Dynamite's photo studio.
The US roster for South Africa got a bit of a shakeup yesterday when Landon Donovan and Eddie Lewis
were both dropped. Lewis's club requested that he not play in the match due to the strain of
travel. Donovan's absence is the result of a calf strain he suffered during Sunday's friendly
against the Minnesota Thunder.
Without Donovan, the side goes into the match with just two named forwards meaning Jozy Altidore is
all but certain to get significant playing time.
Jozy Altidore is blogging for the New York Times Goal blog. Outstanding...the kid is just so
polished (and skilled and big) you just can't believe he's only 17.
MLS just expanded their internet out reach with the introduction of MLS Vortex. This is a player
that you can plug into your website or blog and get news from around the league or from a specific
team. If you want to see what it is, just look on the right column of this blog.
If you want to find a specific team's vortex, take a look here.
Over at US Soccer dot com, they are hosting their annual 'Best of' awards. They have best male
goal, female goal, team, bar, etc., etc. But the big one, the one that will change the course of
the game forever, the one that will cause grown men to cry and women to faint is none other then
'Best (damn) Soccer Blog' ever (or at least for now).
The nominees are the cream of the soccer crop (proven by the fact that this blog is nowhere near
it), but there is one that stands out far above all the others, because only one gives you the
freezer, the Supporters' Shield graphs, the karma bank, the soccer carnivals (whatever happened to
those?

There has always been a bit of a schism between the hardcore and casual fans in MLS, and possibly
rightly so. One group works to create an exciting environment that in turn creates a better
atmosphere, which one can argue helps to inspire better play on the field.
I can't say whether or not the New York Times really approves of our little soccer blog, but people
there do read us, they really read us.
They don't mention us by name in this GOAL blog post, but two of the quotes there are from "Quote
jambalaya".
Maybe they didn't want to link to us because they don't like jambalaya?
I have press pass for Giants Stadium. With it I am privy to good parking, some post-game access,
and a birds eye view of things from the Press Box. I never feel welcome though...like the real
journalists look at me like "who is this freak". Maybe it's because I don't do khaki's.
The one writer that I've never seen in khaki's is Ivesinho, although I'm sure that he has a pair
that he wears for PTA meetings and the like.
Fans of the Blues in the USA now have a site to call their own as Chelsea has unveiled their
official American online home. The club hopes US based supporters will use this location as their
one stop shop for all things Chelsea.
The site contains message boards, training drills, news and, of course, a store. Overall, it is not
the impressive looking as it reminds me of websites designed in the late 90's, but it is good to
see foreign teams look to expand their name in the states.
Here's another soccer blog by a local reporter, Nick Green. The nice thing about a blog
smorgasboard is that hopefully everyone is able to find one they like.
Don't worry guys - I didn't get run over by a bus. Somehow the off-season in June became a really
busy time, so I've hardly had time to think about blogging (and mowing the grass!). But I've got
LOTs to write about, so sit tight. I see a light down ye ole tunnel and should [...]
Long time readers know I can disappear for stretches, usually during the youth soccer seasons, and
this time is no different. I've been buried, but I brought it on myself. Let's see... Three kids
playing soccer, two on travel teams, plus Soccer Dad is coaching a U10 Rec team and a U11G
Challenge team that [...]
This is a pretty good read. Nick Green got Jesse Marsch to write a guest blog on his 100 Percent
Soccer blog. Marsch takes the opportunity to write about diving and how much he despises diving.
I'm telling you, Marsch continues to gain points in my book because I despise diving as well.
Anyway, Marsch pretty much tells us who he thinks the two biggest divers in the league are;
however, I think Paulinho (aka Nagamura) might disagree with his subsequent comment about
Brazilians.
Remember when I wrote about being certifiable? Well, coaching two teams, plus having three kids
playing soccer who aren't on either of my teams made for a really busy soccer season. I barely had
time to breathe, let alone write. I guess I could have written some, but I was pretty wiped out. So
lets [...]
Here's a question. Why isn't the brain (whoever that may be) behind Bobby Boswell's website running
more than just a single player site? Seriously, this would make an excellent model for player blogs
around the league. Outside the realm of the official team website they are able to do some things
that are a little looser, more engaging and smarter than the average bear.
Becks picked up a broken rib on the Galaxy's Oceania trip. Which really is no big surpise, since
soccer players pick them up like rappers pick up gun charges. I just thought I would put this out
there for any fans that may not have known since it's not listed on their websites' injuries and
hasn't been mentioned by the sports press.
"He's like a tyrannosaurus rex with hemorrhoids" - talking about Italy's Gattuso.
"Just like a Turkish belly dancer on a surfboard, Ronaldinho skipping through the tulips" -
December 2006, Barcelona v Real Sociedad
"Kovalenko for me was outstanding also in his football, not just his gritty performance. He's a
footballer; he's got great feet.
More players need their own websites. Seriously, if you're not going to promote yourself who will?
Unless you're named Adu, or Beckham chances are you will receive a minimum of focused effort around
building your name as a brand. In the digital age there is no better, effective, easy and
inexpensive way to do that than by having your own website.
Just a little FYI alert for those of you out there who don't have enough blogs to read. The Toronto
Globe & Mail have joined the ranks of footie-friendly newspapers looking to get in on this whole
soccer thing like by starting a soccer blog, which is called "On Soccer" just to, y'know, keep
everyone guessing.
More and more newspapers are blogging about the game these days, from big papers like the
Washington Post (Soccer Insider) to papers so small that they've never even been used to line a
birdcage like North Jersey Herald News (Soccer By Ives).
US Soccer is now deep in the throws of voting for it's 2007 Best Of Awards and it has come to my
attention that this blog isn't even nominated. Which is 113% outrageous but whatevs. You can check
out all of the blogs that are nominated here and if you feel that this snub is an egregious offense
feel free to use the write in ballot (although to my knowledge no one has ever won anything ever on
a write in).
I am the guest editor of DuNord today. How awesome is that? For those of you who don't read DuNord,
start now...Bruce will give you ALL of the days futbol news like no one else.
In this mornings wee hours the first new post in 3 months appeared on the popular/salacious blog
MLSUnderground. In addition to mentioning that the blog is now under new management, there was a
bit about TFC coach Mo Johnston potentially leaving the sidelines for the front office and taking a
GM role with the club.
