The Champion's League Quarter-finals Pot is almost set. The following teams have advanced:
Manchester United Chelsea Arsenal FC Barcelona Roma Schalke Sevilla The 8th and final team of the
pot will be decided on March 12th, 2008 when Inter Milan host Liverpool at the San Siro. Liverpool
go to Milan with a 2-0 advantage.
According to many observers, Rafael Benitez does not know his best eleven. Well, perhaps we as the
Liverpool fans we should put forward our suggestions and see which one is the most popular. In my
opinion, 4-4-2 with these players is the most balanced side Liverpool can put out. If it is played
consistently and its a [.
Small post for now on the eve of a big Cup game against Betis.
As some may know, new signing Ever Banega is not just a good distributor of the ball, he's an
'adult film star.'
As if we didn't have enough problems, seems Banega starred in a racy film during his Boca Junior
days. Mind you, not a film.
Ya gotta love this.
Today in Tokyo, fans got together to protest against President Juan Soler and coach Ronald
Koeman's dismissals of Angulo, Albelda and Cañizares. For a video of the protests, click
here!!!
They're even angry in Japan!
Wonder if I could get a protest going here.
Guinea will field a weakened team against tournament favourites Ivory Coast, as stand-in captain
Bobo Balde is doubtful after a thigh injury. Ivory Coast vs Guinea - February 3rd at 3:30 pm
Eastern Inspirational midfielder Pascal Feindouno, who usually captains the side, is suspended and
misses the game.
Yes I know, the question is a boring one. It sure as hell isn't as good as some of the fantastic
questions we pose to you on a daily basis here at Caughtoffside.com (*ducks as chair is thrown in
my direction*), but it has to be asked. Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez claimed today on the club
website, [.
This weekend it's jornada 19, the unofficial halfway point of the season and an away
trip to the Vicente Calderon for a match against Atletico Madrid.
Los Colchoneros are riding a wave of good football, climbing to the exalted position of
4th in La Liga with 34 points, 10 behind leaders and bitter rivals Real Madrid and 7 in front of
us.
We here in the States don't get the same match commentators you guys get around the world.
The games come to us via Gol TV, a wonderful channel that shows matches from Spain, Italy and
various parts around the world.
I like Gol TV. Without the channel, I wouldn't be able to watch my heroes lose week in, week
out.
Happy 2008, everyone!
It's been a few since I've written ... as a Valencia fan, it's nice to leave the bitter taste of
2007 in the dust and move on with optimism and hope towards 2008 ...
And behold! We're 1-0 in the New Year! A 3-0 victory over Real Unión de Irún, goals by Zigic
and two by Joaquin booking our place in the next round of the Spanish Kings Cup (Copa Del
Rey).
Manuel Fernandes may not be adjusting to Valencian cuisine or the Che midfield, but he's
certainly taken to the wild Valencian nightlife.
The moody Portuguese midfielder spent a night in prison after a fracas at a night club in the
city center last night. Does the drama ever end at the Mestalla?
All of us here at the B5 Sports channel are listing the ten reason why we like the sports we blog
about. So here are my Ten Reasons Why I Love Soccer. 1. Anyone can play soccer: A simple sport that
anyone can play. All you need is something to kick around. Hey, the [...]
African football has over the years served up its fair share of compelling rivalries, but Ghana
versus Nigeria outshines them all. Nigeria vs Ghana - February 3 - at 12:00 Eastern These two
nations just love to knock the living daylights out of each other (in anything), but more so on a
football pitch.
Match details Aston Villa .v. Newcastle United Saturday 9th February 2008 Villa Park English
Premier League Kick off – 12.45 (UK time) Preview Aston Villa go into this match sitting in 6th
place in the Premiership table just 3 points behind Everton in the final Champions League
qualification place.
Boy, I sure am posty today! I've got some roster news and an Open Cup game to preview for you, so
take a few minutes from calling back clients, or in my case, filing, and read. - Confirmation on
the earlier injury news, with Goff confirming that Santino Quaranta is out 2-3 weeks. But [...]
Chelsea were up to their old tricks again today as they splashed millions of pounds on a superstar
name. Sometimes its just because they can, sometimes its because the board (or Mr R. Moneybags
Abramovic) want to see the player, occasionally its because they need the player. This latest
signing could just be the latter.
My heart aches at the sight of my beloved Valencia CF these days.
What was once a formidable defensive machine, a club capable of fighting deep into Europe season
after season has fallen off the rails with no end to the misery in sight.
This weekend, it was city rivals Levante. A club who came to the Mestalla losers of 8
consecutive away games, a team in virtual disarray with players wanting to leave or not even
showing up.
This, an article in today's BBC by South American journalist Tim Vickery about South American
football prodigies making their way to Europe. In particular, he's talking about our newest
signing, 'adult film star' Ever Banega. Is he ready? Is Valencia the right club? Should Boca
Juniors have waited a little before selling him to us?
Sorry, had to post this little ditty from one of my favorite football journalists, Phil Ball,
who writes a weekly La Liga column on Soccernet.com.
Nothing new here, but still ... We're just not that good right now, are we?
the ... derby, the rather less habitual one between Valencia and bottom-of-the-table
Levante.
I had the pleasure of watching yesterday's match with -a, regular commentator and author of the
wonderful and well-done Atletico de Madrid - The Love That Hurts blog at Nevada Smith's along with
reader Daniel and a few others.
Glad to say that no fisticuffs were thrown. I banged my fist on the table a few times and
bemoaned our fate.

Remember that scandal from a few years ago? You know, the one where all those Minnesota
Vikings players got arrested because they were cruising for "love". I hope that's not
what's about to happen here!
This picture is funny, mostly because of the difference in attractiveness. Meet your two new
defenders, Jeff Curtin and Mike Zaher, formerly of Chicago and Toronto, respectively. Here's some
info from BTB... Curtin was drafted by the Chicago Fire in the second round (14th overall) of the
2006 MLS SuperDraft.
I added a new blog to my Blogroll, Rey de la Furia Española, and I like his most recent entry, so I will mimic it here, but in English and with some of my own thoughts.

A month ago i received a promotion at my place of work. Because of the promotion, my time has been

Big tip of the Hat to Donovan over at DCenters. He channeled his Swami skills and sucked this post
out of my brain, and put it ever so eloquently on his blog. So, go check it out. And I'll start
wearing my tin foil hat to keep all my ideas in from [...]
While searching the web for some Olympics-related sites to add to my blogroll, I attempted to
access the offical Beijing 2008 web site and found it to be the worst site for a major sporting
event I have ever come across. Basic information about the competition is almost inaccessable, the
site design is byzantine in [.
There's a new kid on the block of Australian football sites: The 84th Minute. Neil Zimmerman, who's
also responsible for Victory in Melbourne, is behind the new site, which is set to cover the latest
football analysis, interviews with bloggers, and news about the local game. To get the site
rolling, there's a few articles already: Will [.

Ok ... that's more like it.
I didn't watch the game, but I read along on As.com and Marca.com and I think we did quite
well.
2-1 over Real Betis in the Copa Del Rey with two goals from Joaquin.
A Joaquin performance so good against his former club that the crowd gave him a standing ovation
and yelled 'Lopera Vere Ya!
Well i am back to provide regular service to the illustrious blog.... and there will be a few
changes to the blog
starting with a little section i would like to call Canuks abroad... ( we know there are out
there and the CSA website provides little to no help in locating our fellow canucks out there in a
place i call EuropeLAND ) .
Not really, I kind of just felt like saying that.
Before our season officially starts against Harbour View FC (where I will be, with bells on),
there is scant real news to report.
- Justin Moose, Pat Carroll, Dan Stratford and Ryan Cordeiro have all signed developmental
contracts, so they .
Yep. Just as happened to Laurie, the team I cover has decided to enter the world of blogging, with
all the advantages of actually being employed by the team you cover. Here's the link. I won't be
sad if you leave me for the new guy in town. I'll still be [...]

Just when I think I can put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and type an 'End of Season'
post, something comes up to pull me away ...
Today, it's bad news about my favorite player and now ex-Valencia 'keeper Santiago
Canizares.
'El Dragon' faces child abuse charges in a scandal that has seen one man sent to
prison, judicial sources revealed in Santiago, Spain, on Thursday.
I'm honestly trying to write a season review post.
I swear I am!
It's just that Valencia keeps providing us with news that so succulent, I can't ignore it
...
Today, Joaquin answered Ronald Koeman's critiques from yesterday ... and boy, did he ever
...
"Koeman was a person who looked past people, above their shoulders.
So before we get to the season in review post where we look back at our dreadful campaign, let's
hear once more from our old 'friend' Ronald Koeman, known affectionately as 'TinTin' ...
The Dutch maestro opened up in an interview with a Dutch TV station last night and he said that
taking over at Valencia was probably not a good idea after all.
And so it ends.
The 2007-2008 campaign is finally over. The season of QQ Flores, Koeman, Champions League
failure, the fired Trio, the Copa Del Rey, near-relegation and now, as you can see from the
picture, the squad's snubbing of the fans during yesterday's Copa celebrations ends ...
thankfully!
So what do you think?
These are supposedly the new kits we'll be wearing in next season's La Liga and UEFA Cup
competitions ... not too bad, eh?
I didn't get this season's kit and for good reasons ... why would I want a kit that'll remind me
of one of the worst seasons in our history?
Ahh, sweet glorious relief ... how wonderful it is!
The weight of the world has been lifted off our shoulders.
The birds are chirping. The sun is shining. The flowers smell wonderful and the effervescent coffee
in the next room beckons us to enjoy the day ...
Ok, it's really cold, windy and rainy here in New York City this morning.
