Hey people. Sorry I've been AWOL for a bit, but with the lack of real news to report, I've been
directly my attention towards baseball, and my Washington Nationals blog. Anyway, here's a rundown
of what's happened since we were summarily booted out of the postseason.
Read my earlier post from today for the positives I took from yesterday's game against Osasuna
in Pamplona.
This is an article I found while roaming the Internet looking for news. Read the original here
here here!
The tagline says it all: They've gone from being perennial Champions League contenders to group
stage also-rans, they're floundering in La Liga and their new manager has arrived to find a club
and a dressing room riven with feuds.
It's becoming repetitive writing depressing posts like these.
So I'll try to keep this brief.
We lost. Again. This time to Athletic Bilbao, who humiliated us 3-0 at the Mestalla. They hadn't
beaten us at home in 50 years. There goes that.
That's why fans are uninterested. Who wants to go all the way to Mestalla to watch a bunch of
guys who don't seem to care?
Aren't I the busy little bee, writing to my hearts content about the goings-on of my favorite
wayward club?
Actually, no.
I'm procrastinating and stumbled upon this wonderful article by goal.com's KS Leong, who says we
suck.
I don't have anything more to say about this issue for now.
Wow! Woke up to some amazing news this morning regarding our beloved Valencia CF. Two icons of
the Valencia team won't be playing with us the rest of the season.
MARCA.com reports that Ronald Koeman has told Santiago Cañizares and David Albelda that they
will not play in the last two games before Christmas and could be dropped for the rest of the
season.
Things are moving quickly at the Mestalla.
First, check out this video of David Albelda's press conference today. I tell you, most Valencia
fans will get a lump in their throat seeing the captain shed tears over leaving the Mestalla.
Sad.
But life moves on. And Ronald Koeman's housecleaning continues.
Not going to say much as I'll write some proper posts on the recently sacked David Albelda and
Santiago Canizares later.
Something about today's press conference where David Albelda broke down and lost it really got
to me.
This guy is our CAPTAIN. Ya ya, I know. I've been critical, called for his ouster, been at the
head of the line saying he's not been playing to his capabilities.
Juan Soler's a muppet. There's no other way of saying it.
He's clueless, brainless and apparently spineless.
He held a news conference today at the Mestalla to explain to the world that David Albelda,
Santiago Cañizares and Miguel Angulo aren't sacked, they're just riding the bench for now.
Sorry to do this to you lads, but with Valencia in London to play Chelsea tomorrow in our last
Champions League match of the 2007-08 campaign, the Web is ripe with articles concerning our
plight.
There's not much more I can say about this, except this particular article contains some
engrossing quotes from coach Ronald Koeman and striker David Villa.
To all the readers and Valencianos out there, have a great holiday and keep on rootin'
for the BEST CLUB IN THE WORLD ... (even though they irritate us at times!)
Bon Nadal i millor any nou or ... Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year, although
I'll be back soon to write about transfers (Lucho again?
So I've been super negative the past few weeks about our beloved Valencia CF, but with reason.
We suck.
Still, there's a long season to play and no reason our heroes can't scrape their way out of
this. Right? RIGHT?
Because it can't get much worse than this, am I correct?
We're in full-on 'crisis' mode at the Mestalla these days.
As evidence, I present the following:
- We're out of the Champions League.
- We've lost five of the last eight league matches.
- We recently fired out-of-favor coach QQ Sanchez Flores. New coach Ronald Koeman hasn't had time
to mold the club into his own.
I've been accused of being too pessimistic about this Valencia club the last few weeks.
I'm too depressing. I'm so negative. I make people want to cry, mope, run out to the pharmacy
for Zoloft.
But let's be honest. The 2007 version of Valencia CF HAS made me want to cry, throw things and take
anti-depressants.
So now that we're out of Europe, let's concentrate on what's most important to us: doing well in
La Liga.
Now I know the current squad was built to make some major noise in Europe. But in the wake of
our elimination from all continental competition, it's imperative that Valencia CF pull their
wagons together and demonstrate their ability to bounce back from this 'crisis'.
The Spanish word for 'disappointed' is 'desengaño' or something to that affect.
I'd say that's a good word to sum up my feelings and most Valencia CF fans' feelings this
morning, the day after the Catalan hurricane touched down at the Mestalla, handing us our 6th
straight shutout, 3-0.
Lots of fall out from Saturday's 3-0 disaster against Barcelona.
If you have the stomach to bear it, here's highlights of Barcelona's goals. I watched it live.
Once is enough ...
Soccernet.com's resident Spanish scribe Phil Ball posted some paragraphs about Valencia's
ineptitude today.
Not much to add after yesterday's shocking decision by coach Ronald Koeman to sack captain David
Albelda and 'keeper Santiago Cañizares.
We all know why he's doing this. Let's see if this sparks a turn around.
Either things improve. Or things implode.
Things are bad now, so it's worth a shot, no?
The more I think about it, the angrier I get. I can't BELIEVE the club I love so much would do
this to players we care about so much.
They deserved to sit and not play for rubbish performances. They didn't deserve to have their
noses rubbed in it.
I'm embarrassed at the way Valencia's handled this.
The holiday season inspires one to be kind and gentle with his fellow man.
We here at the Valencia Offside (well, just me ...) beg to differ. Why? Because we're Valencia
supporters, that's why!
Lots of news since I last wrote, so fly your Valencian flag (it's on the left) and let's get to
it.
