So the day has arrived. Chelsea's first game since the shock departure of Jose Mourinho earlier
this week. And what a game to play to try to restore some order and stability into a football club
that has been rocked to its foundations.
There are some sensational newspapers headlines in England today. Ranging from Turncoat Terry to
Abramovich preparing to give Grant £100m to try and get Kaka and Ronaldinho into the Blue of
Chelsea when the January transfer window opens.

Fear not. Beckham isn't leaving LA Galaxy, Zidane isn't coming out of retirement and Ronaldinho
isn't leaving Barcelona. These were players offered to Jose by owner Mr Abramovich, when Jose first
joined Chelsea four years ago.
In addition to Jose turning down those star names it is alleged that Jose told Mr A "You only
need one star here - me!
I dunno whether or not I am being lazy or its just that Liverpool and Chelsea have played each
other so many times in various competitions in a few short years, there isn't anything that I can
write in this preview that is new and fresh, except for:- Chelsea was beaten in the League at
Anfield last season 2-0, Petr Cech's first game after his injury.

Our beloved leader (Bob) posted a topic the other day about the worst EVER footballing shirts.
Chelsea's new Electric Yellow was in there somewhere which is a bit unfair cos the shirt has only
been available only recently. Personally I love the shirt I wear mine all the time (till its time
for it to get washed) and then I move along to another Chelsea shirt.

Three minutes into yesterday's West London derby, Fulham's Clint Dempsey rose in a challenge
with Chelsea's captain John Terry and left the mark of Dempsey's home state of Texas across the
cheek of JT's face.
A deliberate elbow because I saw it as Dempsey's elbow struck JT's face I was in line of it from
my seat at Stamford Bridge.
Well Chelsea did it. Took the unbeaten league record off the 'Scum.' So Scum now start singing
'You've got no history, You've got no history.....' if you dare. We have taken a part of your
history away from you!!!
Go back to February 2004 when Arsenal became the last league victors at Stamford Bridge and fast
forward to this afternoon when on 15 minutes Chelsea old-boy who got a massive reception when his
name was read out, put the visitors ahead.
No sooner had the ink dried on the release of the Premiership football fixtures the TV
schedulers that run our nation's game for the benefit of 'Mr and Mrs Armchair supporter,' were busy
at work re-arranging the early season fixtures for the Blues.
The first game of the season at home to Birmingham City has been moved to Sunday 12th August
with a 1.
I'm not going to write too detailed a preview of the Schalke 04 match at the Arena AufSchalke,
Gelsenkirchen, Germany Tuesday night. For a very detailed analysis of the game, please go here.
What I will say is that this match is about as must-win a game as Valencia has had in a
while.
They looked poor against inferior competition this weekend.
Hey people. Sorry I've been AWOL for a bit, but with the lack of real news to report, I've been
directly my attention towards baseball, and my Washington Nationals blog. Anyway, here's a rundown
of what's happened since we were summarily booted out of the postseason.
Live from Ibrox Stadium KO 3pm (UK time)

Out and Out 4-4-2
I'm keeping this short and sweet as we're in the middle of a federal holiday here in the United
States. It's a rare day I get off, so I'm leaving to enjoy the sun and fun.
Because of the holiday and because they refused to show the Almeria-Valencia game in the States,
I wasn't able to watch. According to the comments left on the blog and various reports around the
'Net, I should be glad I didn't.
When Chelsea kicked off their USA tour last weekend against Club America I really didn't know
what to expect (as Club America was an unknown quantity to me) and when Chelsea went 1-0 behind as
early as the third minute I admit I was fearing the worse!!
Against the Bluewings during Tuesday night or Wednesday morning depending whether you reside in
the US or the UK, I expected Chelsea to win and win they did.
Pop Quiz everybody!! What do The Scaffold, The Cavern Club and Rob Styles have in common with
each other? They all became famous in Liverpool!!!! Well in Rob Styles' case 'INFAMOUS.'
The Cavern Club was where The Beatles were discovered, The Scaffold had Paul McCartney's brother
Michael as a member (and had a top ten hit with a song called 'Thank You Very Much') and Rob Styles
gave Chelsea a penalty (which wasn't)!
Earlier this evening I was sitting on the sofa trying to come up with The Offside way of trying
to write a match preview for the home game against Portsmouth on Saturday when I heard on the telly
at the start of the local news programme 'three words' - Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Looking up, paying attention and waiting in earnest for the feature, our Shaunie along with his
Dad Ian, Wayne Bridge, Mark Bright and Mitchell Thomas are undertaking a road trip on Sunday from
London's Kings Road to Southamption via Madeira Way in Brighton on Harley Davidson bikes and
trikes!
The Academy travelled to Aston Villa on Saturday morning and like the first team a couple of
weeks ago, were beaten. The game ended 2-1 to Villa. Read all about it here.
The reserves were in action last night at their new home Griffin Park, home of Brentford FC and
in front of a fair sized crowd drew with Tottenham 1-1. Read all about it here.
As Chelsea meet LA Galaxy this weekend and in keeping with the previous formulas of the last two
What Do You Knows? - Club America and Suwon Samsung Bluewings, here is the last What Do You Know?
about LA Galaxy.
The game at the Home Depot Center kicks off 6pm (local time) or 2am (UK time) and almost
straight after the game, the squad will leave Los Angeles and fly back to London, ready for
training on Monday.
England 1 - Germany 2 (International friendly, August 22, 2007) (Longer highlights here.) England
took the lead with a great goal from Frank Lampard. Kuranyi got the equaliser after an awful
sequence of blunders from Robinson, before Pander scored an absolute screamer. Boy Wonder Owen
managed to miss an open goal and Joe Cole's shot [...]
Manchester United 1 - Tottenham H. 0 (Premier League, 26 augustus, 2007): Spurs had their first
great chance, Keane hit the bar. Vidic's shot just missed target and Scholes lifted the bal over
the goal. Nani finally scored for United. First half highlights can be seen here. Middlesbrough 2 -
Newcastle United 2 (Premier League, August [...]

Bocanegra put the Americans ahead off a Landon Donovan corner kick, but Brazil tied it with an
own-goal off defender Onyewu following a shot by Kaka. Brazil went ahead when Lucio headed
Ronaldinho's corner. Dempsey then tied the score for the before Ronaldinho [.
So the season starts again.
Hope springs eternal. Flowers bloom, children rise, the sun cascades its rays over the land and
the dew is sweet as honey.
And every team in the table in Spain's La Liga comes in with optimism and belief, that this is
the year, this is the season they can break free and win a cup, book a place in next season's
Champions League, maybe sneak by the big boys and win the championship.
Courtesy of 101 Great Goals Sunderland 0 - Liverpool 2 (Premier League, August 25, 2007) Mohammed
Sissoko scored his first goal for the Reds, a sweetly struck right foot shot from outside the box.
Liverpool then had to wait until late on, when Torres set up Voronin for the second. Roy Keane gave
his thoughts here, [...]
I don't care about the other Champions League groups and I won't be publishing the details of
them so if you want details go elsewhere and find out. This is ALL about Chelsea and Chelsea's
crusade to ultimately win the Holy Grail of European Football THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.
Chelsea have come so close over these past few years and that's why FINALLY Chelsea was afforded
top Club status and started their journey when picked out of the hat as top seeds of Group B in the
draw made this evening.
Well I got me arse out of bed at 3.30am the other morning to prepare and watch Chelsea live from LA
- at the home of LA Galaxy to be more precise - and if I am honest I enjoyed this game more than I
did the one against Club America.
To be fair if Chelsea had scored five or six against the Bluewings, I don't think there would
have been too many complaints raging from the changing room of the Blue shirts.
Our beloved signed defender Ivan Helguera from Real Madrid today. Judging by the picture, he
looks sort of confused about it.
He's been capped 47 times for Spain, won three league titles and two European Cups after joining
Real from Espanyol in 1999.
He was overlooked at the start of last season by coach Fabio Capello, who reversed his decision
to bring him back in.
Very good showing by the squad on Tuesday against Sweden's Elfsborg, a 3-0 win in Champions
League qualifying that virtually sends us to the Big Cup group stages. (The reason for this
muppet's picture to the left is explained below)
I didn't watch the game. I tried but, as usual, it was in vain.
Regardless, I read the updates and the comments (thanks again) and it sounds like we
dominated.
How much more good news do you want in a space of a few days? Firstly Man Utd drop points at
home to Reading (and from a club point of view and NOT England), Rooney gets injured. Chelsea win
their first game.
Next up, Man Utd drop ANOTHER two points at Portsmouth AND 'The Winker,' Ronaldo gets himself
sent off to boot. So for the next few games at least, Man Utd are without their front line
talismen, Rooney and Ronaldo.
So I haven't had much to say the past few days.
It's been a busy time in American soccer, with David Beckham playing a game right down the
road.
It's so weird to see people flocking to the local stadium to see a football match and have it
not be a New York Jets or Giants gridiron affair. Strange? Weird? Different, for sure. And
wonderful to watch happen .
Top of the League, first clean sheet of the season and Frank scores his third goal in a week.
COME ON THE CHELS!!
I walked out of Stamford Bridge yesterday afternoon just like Rafa Benitez - red faced because
of the blazing hot sun beating down on me for the best part of an hour, and fat because of the
copious amounts of water I had drunk to keep hydrated.
Australia 0 - Argentina 1 (International friendly, September 11, 2007) (Longer highlights here.)
Martin Demichelis scored in the 49th minute when he found himself unmarked in the goalmouth and
headed home a looping free-kick from Lionel Messi.
Chelsea take on Mexico's Club America in the Disney Friendship Cup at the Stanford Stadium, San
Jose, California in the early hours of Sunday morning (2am UK time to be precise) or 6pm local
time.
But what do you know about Club America?
Club America or America or Club de Futbol America S.A. de C.V. are one of the top teams in
Mexican club Football.
