Sorry for not posting yesterday, my realish job took precedent, and I was still recovering from an
emotional playoff weekend plus news that Real Fucking Salt Lake, those bastards whose goose TFC
were supposed to have cooked back in October as Rollins expertly pointed out yesterday, will be
playing for the MLS Cup.

Now we start entering the realm of players with playing time. Of guys that may have value to
other clubs in trade, and quite possibly seeing the guy that Philadelphia takes in the Expansion
Draft later this month. This collection of players are in two sets.
The first set are two USL Sounders, and the second two players are young talents with promise,
but who have lacked the playing time to showcase their reputations in competitive matches.

SHORT SCRIBE OF THE GAME
The first thing you noticed at the ground was the heavy security at the stadium.
Given the stakes were high and big crowds were expected that the organizers had decided to
segregate both groups of fans from one and other.
And like most games played in Kallang in the recent years, it would always be the away fans that
drummed up the atmospher (Why are we the passive lot?

DCUMD 11 November @ 01:11 PM EST
I've always intended for DCUMD to be more of a community for United fans than just a guy writing
a blog. We've seen this space morph from a blog that was supposed to cover the connection between
DCU and UMD into a blog that is pretty much exclusively related to DC United. Recently I've found
myself writing fewer opinion pieces and spending more time on tracking the way the team evolves
over the year.

The possibilities are endless for tonight's game in terms of where the Galaxy will end up in the
standings.
The Earthquakes will be looking to put a season that initially promised so much behind them.
Personally, I think the biggest mistake was getting rid of Ronnie O'Brien, but whatever.

Hello hello hello. Did you miss me? I promise that I had every intention of blogging at least once
while in Amsterdam, an intention which can be confirmed by knowing that the first thing I asked the
hotel reception was 'how much is your broadband?' It was her answer that prevented any further
progress with the matter.

There might be room for a third blogger here on Lyon Offside. Emphasis on the might.
Inara and John aren't going anywhere, but they have asked me to find a third writer to help them
out, keep the posts coming, and generally be part of a deadly OL blogging trident.
However, Because Inara and John have set such excellent standards here, I'm setting the bar very
very high.

In fiddling with the syncing abilities of NetNewsWire, I started looking at Google Reader's
recommendations and noted that it provided a bit of data on how many people follow certain
blogs.
So, being the pedantic nerd I am, I decided to check out the numbers for some of my "favorite"
blogs.

With ManU dropping points today against Sunderland, the table sets up nicely for the winner (if
there is one) of the Liverpool Chelsea clash Sunday at Stamford Bridge. As part of my blogging for
the Liverpool FC Supporters Club of Chicago, I examine the Liverpool-Chelsea rivalry, from an
extremely pro-Liverpool perspective, of course.

Fantasy EPL 03 October @ 11:15 PM EST
The Manager would like to apologize for the relative lack of blogging. He's been scouring YouTube
looking for new talent to sign. Well, actually he's just been stuck at work for 12 to 14 hours a
day. But with tonight at home to catch up on football (and soon, sleep) we'd like to give you the
first part of the weekend review early.

Howdy doody LadyArse lovers. It seems as though I may have a very tiny apology to make regarding
the standard of my blogging over the past number of weeks, maybe even months (this week aside). The
reason for this is that I have been thoroughly and utterly miserable in work, more so than is
normal.

AMSL Hard at Work
It's not often you get honoured with your name in a post title.
How did we get here exactly?
Well, last Sunday morning, as part of my weekend gig writing the Sweeper at pitchinvasion.net, I
attempted to reveal what I thought were the underlying ideological fault lines in the on-going
salary cap debate in Em El Es between Ben Knight and Fake Sigi.

This just about sums up everything I'm thinking tonight.
I am sick to the teeth of the US playing so shakily the last few games. Just good enough just is
not good enough for me. So I'm getting a bit nervous. But Tim "Greatest American Hero" Howard seems
to working the problem, or so he says here.

An article posted on the website, Scientific Blogging, describes a talk given by speaker and author
Dan Pink. A common belief is that extrinsic motivation in the form of rewards can improve
performance. However, scientific research shows that incentivising a problem-solving task may
stifle creativity and actually hinder the outcome.

this non-preview is a warning that the blog will not be commenting much on tonight's friendly.

On Sports Blogging, Sports Journalism, and the Scary Fate of Humanity
Alright, alright, fine – blogging isn't journalism. Lines divide the two fields. Professional
journalists get paid, for example. Us amateur bloggers usually don't. We toil in the nervous spaces
between working on the internet and "working" on the internet, or between trips to Starbucks and
withdrawing more trust-fund money.

First, to get this Real Madrid transfer business out of the way: Sir Alex Ferguson is getting
pilloried for going back on his "I wouldn't sell that mob a virus." But he didn't sell them a
virus, he sold them Ronaldo. So case closed.
More importantly, I was watching Jon Stewart yesterday and they went off on The New York Times for
having their heads in the sand by sticking to print news when everyone else is off clicking away on
their coffee breaks over at the Huffington Post.
