I don't play video games. I've never owned a gaming system, nor have I ever wanted one. Online
Literati is about all I'm capable of.
But from what I understand, soccer video games are huge. A lot of people use "Football
Manager" as a way to judge players, and there is even a section of the Offside devoted to
video games.
As everyone has undoubtedly heard by now, Landon Donovan has made noise about leaving the small
pond that is MLS for a foreign destination, with the English Premier League being the presumed
destination.
Donovan does this occasionally -- discussing his chances in Europe with the press, that is.
Several folks have commented on the deadness of this blog. Many apologies! But the good news is
that we're bringing the blog back to life, better than ever.
From here on out, I'm going to be joined on this page by three co-bloggers who I think will be
able to provide interesting, insightful and somewhat irreverent commentary on our beloved team.
Whilst thumbing through The Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer in bed the other night, I
wondered to myself "when is someone going to do the first book about Becks in America?".
With Europe's bookshelves already rammed full of books about our David it was only a matter of time
before someone got in the act over on this side of world.
Over the next few days, expect to read a multitude of odes written by bloggers from the UK
regarding the demise of Shoot Magazine, the popular British football publication which owner IPC
announced it would be shutting it down at the end of this month. Shoot! was a hugely popular weekly
football magazine aimed at children.
This is my 101st post, and it's just to say "Good bye!" I started this blog to keep
track of my articles and reviews for ESPN.com's Soccernet, eventually expanding to mild analysis
and poor punditry, all while making connections and forming online and "real life"
friendships with some very amazing bloggers and journos around the world.
Wow. Nothing like a little controversy to help egg on what has become the biggest rivalry in MLS.
What I do like though is that several DC fans have invaded the Fire's big-media blog, but no
intelligible Fire fans have dared to opine on a similar post in the Insider.
I'm not going to write too much about the game itself because I once again did not witness it like
some bloggers, nor did I tune into the radio like others.
Blancogate has moved into a new dimension and possibly into a court of law.
As you remember, after Blanco went bezerk we posted a video from a local TV news segment on the
game which was subsequently removed from Youtube by MLS under false assumptions. The video was
later reinstated but it raised serious issues.
If you've missed me, sorry. I've been reading and following football, just not post due to laziness
related to being sick. Anyway. There's no way I'm going to catch up, so moving on. Here's an
unrelated picture of Carlos Vela and Nicklas Bendter from that great Carling Cup match. Yeah, I'll
admit it, I like Nick's thighs.

The blogging doesn't stop after Euro 2008. Here on World Cup Blog we're going to follow World Cup
2010 qualification closely and we'd love to have as many teams covered as possible. And that means
we're looking for team bloggers to join our community. If there's a national team you want
I had the best of intentions for this Daily Dose. But it seems that most other soccer bloggers are
taking the July 4 holiday off. Nothin' going on out there but several millions unsubstantiated
transfer rumors. And I started to give you those links, but I....um....

Man, Italian soccer is gonna be good all year for soccer bloggers.
Arsenal should be in the Championship. If footy bloggers ruled the universe. Brazil's search for
the country's sexiest fan. Italy's all-refugee football club. Didier Drogba flings currency into
the crowd. Japan's no country for second-string players. Derek Parlane McQueen: The biggest name in
football Steven Appiah's gone from the pitch to the courtroom.

I'm a bit late writing this due to numerous festivities that resulted from my sister-in-law's
wedding this weekend, not the least of which included a couple of hangovers, so I'll keep my
comments brief since several other smarter analysts, wittier writers, and merciless bloggers have
already opined on the match.
It was just brought to my attention that about a week ago one of the bloggers at the Guardian did a
piece on Rivaldo. You can read it here. It's a strange article really, often lapsing into the past
tense, as if, in the author's opinion, the Rivaldo he remembers isn't playing anymore, [...]
Ok guys, I had to work this morning so this is a really late post. It's almost 9 pm in England. The
readers in Australia will think this post is tomorrow's, but there will be a new one then too.
The podcast is really going to be picking up here soon. I've got a new co-host lined up, Joaquin
from Los Angeles.
There's a new kid on the block of Australian football sites: The 84th Minute. Neil Zimmerman, who's
also responsible for Victory in Melbourne, is behind the new site, which is set to cover the latest
football analysis, interviews with bloggers, and news about the local game. To get the site
rolling, there's a few articles already: Will [.

Serious bloggers actually blog immediately after the game.
The rest of us go to Oktoberfest.
Game story from a Galaxy perspective.
The United view.
By the way, David Beckham had yet another sub-par game complete with errant passes, petulant
behavior and little creativity.

There's something of a debate going on at the moment about sexism in sports blogging. One of my
fellow lady football bloggers was interviewed about the subject but was then cross when cuts were
made which she objected to.
Those of you who've been reading this blog for a while will know that one of my many objections to
the game before I started learning about it was a perception that men used it to exclude women from
conversations.
aficionados, [.
Every year, mass media organizations such as Sky Sports, the BBC and The Guardian are scooped by a
small band of football bloggers who leak photographs of new, never seen before football kits
sometimes months before they're officially unveiled to the public. The race to be the first to post
these rare pictures has become an [.
