It's that time again soon! The 00's are coming to an end. We need to talk "Best Players of the
Decade". That means, any player who played somewhere from 2000 till now. Dennis Bergkamp, for
instance, qualifies for this list. There's a massive questionaire being put up by the OffSide
Weekend Blogger and I
Blog of the Day
The blog of the day in American soccer has to be one made by an anonymous author on a popular
US-blog ripping the US Soccer federation in a quite wild, spectacular, and absolutely
unsubstantiated fashion.

As Jon alluded to a few days ago there is a new blogger coming on board on the DC United blog. That
blogger is me. I'm here. Hi.
The Intro:
My name is Chris and I am an avid DC United fan and member of la barra brava. I spend way too much
time online reading, and writing about soccer online.
Steven Cohen, host of America's most popular soccer radio show World Soccer Daily, is learning a
lesson Kelvin McKenzie could have taught him: don't play fast and loose with the facts when you're
dealing with the Hillsborough disaster.
Steven Cohen
Cohen has, for quite some time, been beating the drum that ticketless Liverpool fans "shared
responsibility" for causing the Hillsborough disaster, despite Lord Taylor's official report
concluding otherwise.
25% of blog posts in Britain are fake.
These bloggers are paid by the inevitable middle people to include content that is linked to a
particular website.
We are inundated with such proposals, as they are seeking blogs that are trusted by their
readership.
Some of these operations are less shady than others but, with the worst examples, the blogger is
paid markedly extra for including positive content about the website with an embedded link in the
post.
Fellow USL-1 blogger Brian Quarstad of Inside Minnesota Soccer continues his work to fill the void
in USL media coverage.
In addition to writing the weekly USL review that I've mentioned previously, Brian also came up
with the idea to put together a league-wide, team-by-team season preview.
As the popularity of Twitter skyrockets, more football supporters are signing up to stay updated
on the latest football news. Trouble is how to know which people to follow on Twitter.
To help, I've compiled a list of the top 10 English football bloggers you should follow on
Twitter.
A gnawing and suspicious paradox lies at the heart of African national team experiences in world
competition: African teams tend to do much better at the youth level than they do at the senior
level. Take the fact, for example, that African teams have won 5 of the 12 FIFA U17 World Cups
(with the 2009 version scheduled to be hosted by Nigeria in October and November), but not a single
African team has ever made it as far as the semi-finals of a full World Cup.

And those words are: Don't get cocky.
That's 4 wins in a row for the Galaxy, which is not the longest win streak since 2006. (The
dismal 2007 season featured a 5 game winning streak from September through October.) All of a
sudden the team is tied for third in the West and sitting pretty in a playoff spot (granted it has
still played a game more than most of the West) and it is surging rather than falling.

Here are a series of impressions from my experience of the Galaxy - Barcelona match.

Saturday morning at the Farmer's Market I frequent I met fellow futbol blogger Jennifer
Doyle who writes From A Left Wing which explores the "cultural politics of soccer".
Which means until now, he was convinced he was the world's best.
Buffon handed the batton to Inter Milan keeper Julio Cruz.
The ego of pro athletes staggers me sometimes.
One day I'll pass along the torch, to the next best American soccer blogger that lives on my
street.
We realize that power rankings are well-meaning efforts to bring some order to the chaos that is
Major League Soccer. As such they are certainly a commendable exercise for bloggers everywhere.
Unfortunately, they serve no real purpose.
MLS power rankings, which rank the league's clubs according to some individual metric (usually
the blogger's own) are everywhere.
Salma Mitha has joined the ESPN Soccernet podcast this week as their Bundesliga correspondent.
While it is understandable that the great Uli Hesse-Lichtenberger wouldn't have time to spend on a
podcast, I do feel that it was a positive sign by ESPN, who produces a bi-weekly podcast dedicated
to the EPL and MLS to try and include our great league in their discussion.
You need to know what I did when he scored the goal. It's embarrassing, but as you know your
verbose blogger has to share these things.
First, a little recap.
First, I screamed. I scared the crap out of my seven-year-old daughter who was scrapbooking in
the kitchen.
My husband screamed too but in a more manly way.
Another excellent piece of journalism by perhaps the best blogger out there at present as
Arseblog delves deeper into the boardroom kerfuffle at the Emirates.
It looks like the gloves are coming off and the relationships between our biggest
shareholders are going to be increasingly tested over the next little while.
With just a few weeks to go before all the passion restarts in Europe and the MLS nearing its
conclusion i wanted to share a fantastic site with you.Its mysoccerplace.net.Mysoccerplace.net
collects footballs highlights from the days current and past to keep fans informed and in tune with
the day's occurrence from around the footballing globe.
One of the first posts I ever made was about how official gear from the stores in the USA is
just awful. There's not really any selection and it looks like the merch that is sent here are only
the things that wouldn't sell in the UK. As excited as I am about piggy banks and slippers, I would
really appreciate it if someone would throw us a t-shirt that looked cool.
Great picture find over at The Offside.
Let's get to the other good stuff out there.

I swear to God, sometimes this is JUST TOO EASY.
(Yeah, yeah, I know it's with a "j". Lighten up, Herbert)
In other news, if it wasn't for the fact that the intrepid Jack Bell thought it was solid
enough to mention, you'd have been tempted to laugh out loud at the "Beckham to Join Impact Bid"
rumors which virtually every soccer blogger on the continent babbled on about for days after it
first appeared.
I know I'm the Wizards blogger but because I have a few contacts outside the country I was given
some juicy news about the mess that the Costa Rican soccer league is going through and how this
might affect/help the United States National Team, who will be visiting them in June for the next
World Cup Qualifier.
Good day folks. Sorry to not have joined you in awhile, but with Martin running things so
smoothly and MLS in full season swing I decided to take a step back from covering the Arsenal. Do
me a favor and jump over to join the conversation as I gloss over all things MLS. There's no sense
in glossing over Arsenal's 2008-2009 season I'm not here to dig anything new up.
Michael Bradley showed his passion at the end of the Egypt game when he told us all off. That
for me wasn't a rebuke but a proud moment. The United States National Team which for years lived in
a bubble with nothing but a few media who followed them and passionate, sometimes uncritical fan
support had become big time.
That's right, if you've not heard yet, Steven Goff of the Washington Post announced yesterday a
fairly confusing situation that ends up meaning that the US vs Mexico CONCACAF qualifier on August
12, at Azteca Stadium will only be carried by a smaller Spanish channel called mun2 which is
broadcast in English.
The lovely Brandy Brewer was sensationally crowned Miss UK Football Finder 2009 last night with
a devastating performance on the catwalk. For those of you who were lucky enough to get in would
have witnessed the best catwalk show of the year. All 8 finalists looked stunning as they wowed the
crowd with their moves.
Whitney Mathews, local blogger and social media extraordinaire, came out to our match against the
Galaxy on Saturday, talked to some fans in the stands and got the full Wizards experience (plus
some Beckham-induced mania). She (and her boyfriend/camera helper) had a great time and could be
coming out more often to look at different parts of the experience at CAB.
The football community is abuzz with last Tuesday's unexpected episode of hooliganism at Upton
Park, the Championship League draw, and some excellent football matches this weekend. There's also
the 'over-the-top' outrage at Eduardo winning a soft penalty against Celtic and for our money, the
press has in the past and always will make a mountain out of nothing for a story.
(P.S: Got an email from SoccerPro's Trevor who asked if I keen to do another review of a product
from their stock list.
Which I obliged and here's another piece of product review of the blog - "Adidas Samba Millenium"
indoor soccer shoes.
Opinions expressed below are sole personal from the blogger himself , without any form of

Now that's the MLS we all know and love, right? Questionable officiating, the playoff race somehow
getting even tighter, the Galaxy shipping six goals while scoring three...the Red Bulls losing.

We don`t mind what the topic is, as long as it is loosely related to Stockport County and isn`t
libellous or offensive.
The collapse of the newspaper industry comes at a terrible time for a growing league like MLS.
Numerous MLS teams don't even have beat reporters dedicated to them in the first place. Or if they
do, they're the first to go.
Take the case of the struggling Chicago Tribune, who decided a few months ago to drop their beat
coverage of the Chicago Fire by moving reporter Luis Arroyave from covering the Fire to covering
showbusiness (a fitting move for the former FHM writer).
Normally, we try not to give rank stupidity a link, for obvious reasons.
In this case though, if I did not, people would claim I was making it up.
So here you go:
MY LINK OF THE YEAR.
I am forever indebted to BS loyalist "evangel" for passing along this article which, I admit, I
read several times because I couldn't believe that it was not a parody.
Dear Arsene,
Praise is good but it should be meaningful. Robin Van Persie is having a fantastic season but to
say he is the best striker in the Premiership is jumping the gun. Didier Drogba will have some
words on that. Comparing Van Persie to Dennis Bergkamp is definitely jumping the shark.
Unidos. El marcador más dicho fue [.
MLS 2009 has already started, and we still need a writer to captain Dynamo Offside. It's not a paid
position, but it's the opportunity to share your opinions with a smart and sizeable soccer
audience, and be part of the excellent (I think) Offside community. If you think you've got what it
takes, then have a look [.

Real Sociedad and Gimn stic drew 0-0 this afternoon as Real were denied their fifth straight win.
Both teams had chances to win the match but the best chance was missed by Sebastián Abreu as his
penalty kick was saved by Rubén Pérez just before half-time. The penalty was awarded after
Mairata was deemed to have handled the ball.

My regular reader knows that I readily admit when I'm wrong. So, without further ado I will just
say that yesterday I was wrong when I lumped the Arsenal Supporter's Trust (AST) in with the
Kroenke come lately's. As it turns out, I was thinking of a particular interview with Nigel
Phillips and Tim Payton in which they actually ask measured questions of Kroenke, rather than my
memory of the interview, which was simply wrong.
