Nutmegged 20 November @ 11:56 AM EST
OK, after taking this week off to mostly just troll other blogs and not comment too much on MLS or
soccer in general after letting last week's loss sink in, I do have some thoughts on a rash of
topics:
(But before I begin, I have to tell you my favorite lines from anyone about events so far this
week.

Very broad and interesting response to my post yesterday. I just want to speak to some of the
comments I received over the course of the day as I recovered from a nasty sore throat.
First, the post was not a protracted whinge about soccer writing not paying my bills. I know there
is a route whereby money can be made from bloggin' about soccer, and I know several of us have
commandeered that route with great success.

The everlasting debate of us signing a keeper to replace Gomes, raged through the office once
again.
I do thank my lucky stars that most of my prestigious colleagues claimed that Gomes is a better
keeper than Ben Foster.
I didn't want to name and shame the under writer of yet another pointless office rant, but Pat, who
also happens to be my boss, started the "Gomes Out" campaign at the beginning of last season.

Afternoon all, welcome to the blog.
Apologies for the lateness of this post, usually FP tries to have something by 8.30ish every
morning, but delayed today's post in case any Perth Glory news came about.
Sadly, nothing has arrived as yet.
Just a quick point: FP will be away from Perth for about three weeks, working on another project.

Sincronizando 13 November @ 02:56 AM EST

This is a photo of Las Senadoras --of Republica Deportivo fame-- getting their mitts all over the
Philip F. Anschutz trophy. For this it is The Luckiest Trophy in the World, Today
â„¢. Also
it should be noted that there was an obvious caption for this photo but it was just too obvious,
even for a blogger as hackey yours truly.

"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet sin in one point, he is guilty of
all."
- James 2:10
For centuries, mankind has been obsessed with the idea of "sin." Different cultures and
religions have sought to define "sin" for their members, and several theories have been advanced
regarding what constitutes a "sin.

Alex Brosque's return to form this season has been a delight to watch, but this sudden move up the
ranks comes as a surprise nonetheless. The timing is unfortunate, since Brosque was surprisingly
ineffective against Gold Coast United this weekend, especially after the game-changing departure of
Steve Corica.

Dear Arsene,
Praise is good but it should be meaningful. Robin Van Persie is having a fantastic season but to
say he is the best striker in the Premiership is jumping the gun. Didier Drogba will have some
words on that. Comparing Van Persie to Dennis Bergkamp is definitely jumping the shark.

Are you concerned about the possible future takeover of Arsenal from majority shareholder Stan

American side, but possesses a wealth of [.

Sido Jombati extended his hand, and with a warm smile on his face said, 'My name is Sido.'
I couldn't help but laugh. I had just contacted him a few days ago to tell him what a big fan I
was, and to request an interview with him for this blog. I certainly knew who his name. I was to
learn, though, that Sido is as unassuming as he is friendly.

Normally, we try not to give rank stupidity a link, for obvious reasons.
In this case though, if I did not, people would claim I was making it up.
So here you go:
MY LINK OF THE YEAR.
I am forever indebted to BS loyalist "evangel" for passing along this article which, I admit, I
read several times because I couldn't believe that it was not a parody.

Over the next few days bloggers far and near are going to be offering up their opinions on
the MLS Year End Awards nominations.
The main reason for this isn't that they honestly care that much. Almost no one really does.
But for a blogger - and I know whereof I speak - this provides one of the "automatic topics", like
the traditional six part "Preseason Preview" or more recent "Playoff Preview", whose main value is
to relieve the author of the nerve wracking chore of coming up with something to write about.

It's that time again soon! The 00's are coming to an end. We need to talk "Best Players of the
Decade". That means, any player who played somewhere from 2000 till now. Dennis Bergkamp, for
instance, qualifies for this list. There's a massive questionaire being put up by the OffSide

We're proud to announce that Daniel Feuerstein has left CSRN and will now be writing exclusively
for Major League Soccer Talk.
The passionate blogger and soccer pundit from the north east has been a guest writer for MLS
Talk during the past year as well as a refreshingly honest critic of Red Bull New York as well as
Major League Soccer.

Did you know Freddie Ljungberg has a blog? I didn't. I just noticed it in the byline of his recent
column for Soccernet. Yeah that's right, he also has a column at ESPN. So to recap he's a
footballer, a model, a blogger, a columnist and a handball enthusiast. Hell if he started med
school and got his pilots license dude would be the new Barbie.

Let me present a very simplistic formulation. Let's assume that in order for MLS to receive higher
television revenues, it must draw in more supporters. Let it also be resolved that, for those fans
to show up at MLS games and commit wholesale to the league, the quality of the on-pitch product
must get better.

So yes I realise I've been a horrible horrible blogger recently. And I apologise profusely for
letting you down. I play for a rugby club in my spare time, which does not leave much time for the
lengthy research and writing that this blog requires, but don't dismay! My rugby season will
probably be over after this weekend (I can almost hear your sighs of relief, it's touching), so
I'll be posting much more regularly.

There might be room for a third blogger here on Lyon Offside. Emphasis on the might.
Inara and John aren't going anywhere, but they have asked me to find a third writer to help them
out, keep the posts coming, and generally be part of a deadly OL blogging trident.
However, Because Inara and John have set such excellent standards here, I'm setting the bar very
very high.

They say Benny Feilhaber is having a breakout year for both club & country. Who's they you say?
SBI. As I have no idea what the hell he's doing in Denmark --and let's be honest here, without
actually seeing his games on TV who does-- I'll just take their word for it. As for his performance
with the nats I'd say he has been quite good but not standout to me; I think if I were "Blue Eyes"
Bradley I would start Stu Holden ahead of him in Dempsey absence and maybe bring him in off the
bench late tomorrow night.

25% of blog posts in Britain are fake.
These bloggers are paid by the inevitable middle people to include content that is linked to a
particular website.
We are inundated with such proposals, as they are seeking blogs that are trusted by their
readership.
Some of these operations are less shady than others but, with the worst examples, the blogger is
paid markedly extra for including positive content about the website with an embedded link in the
post.

Rigtho, so FP is back from his two-day vacation (which wasn't really a vacation) from the
blog-o-sphere.
So this blogger will spare you the cliched 'unrelated introduction with the segue into the real
news' trick, and just get straight into it.
There's probably been one major theme which has been constantly percolating with the fans about
Perth Glory this season.

It's about time, the millions who have had to plug through the unwieldy navigation (let's see
how many hundreds of links we can pile into one homepage!) and mediocre writing of Major League
Soccer's website will say, but the news is still good for American soccer fans: MLS is bringing its
website production in-house, planning to revamp it entirely for a slated re-launch in March
2010.

Last week, I discussed the decline in beat reporting on American sports, which is hitting the
less popular sports leagues such as Major League Soccer particularly hard. My
particular example came from the city I know best, Chicago, where we've seen the major daily here
cut its beat reporter for the Fire this year and replace him with an enthusiastic but inexperienced
blogger, whose work rarely makes the print edition.
