There's another new Kansas City area blog. The Kansas City Soccer Review. It's being done by both
George Hanson and George Shook. The blog is set to replace Hanson's daily email news blast about
the Wizards and Kansas City soccer. The G's Squared will be bringing news on the sport for all of
Kansas City.
The Wizards have a new official team blog, Hillcrest Road. You can find it in my blogroll on the
right. This will hopefully be a great thing for the team and the fans to get more information on
the team as a whole.
Here are some of the features the blog will have on the team:
- Regular updates from practices and road
trips
- Regular posts from Team President and owner Robb
Heineman
- Updates on the Wizards permanent stadium
project
- Guest blogs from other members of the
organization including players
- Fun features displaying the players'
off-the-field lives
- Regular posts concerning the Wizards efforts in
the community
I'm looking forward to the information that will be on the blog.
In the first of our two seasonal business development posts, we looked at the inevitability of
recession in 2008 while today we focus on why recessionary pressures are a great time to develop
creative trading strategies for gambling markets.
The key word here is creative. When the global economy is in bust mode, there is always an increase
in the liquidity of the global betting markets.
Confused thinking persuaded us that we should start charging for access to the Football Is Fixed
blog. We have now changed our minds.
We understand that we have provided too much free and valuable information on the blog and our
initial response was that the freeloaders, who include our nemesis, the bookmakers, traders,
betting exchanges and other industry insiders together with amateurs on the make, should be made to
pay for access to privileged information.
Happy New Year, readers!
You get to help determine how our blog evolves.
It's nothing too radical, but we're moving to a new template.
We're trying on our favorites for the next week and letting you vote for the style you'd most
prefer on our poll. You can look at the other template options we've listed on Blogger and vote now
or just check back here as we switch the templates day by day and then cast your preference for the
style you like.
Just got home from the rally to support the Bannister Mall redevelopment. I'll have more on that
here shortly, but wanted to comment on this first.
Our wonderful captain, Jimmy Conrad now has his own blog. Not only will we be able to read his
words of wisdom on ESPN, but we'll also be able to get it here.
I'm already loving the new Hillcrest Road blog the team has put together. Late last night, we got
our first write up from Wizards president, Robb Heineman. The post is all about the new stadium and
some of the stuff that is going on right now. He's meeting today with Architecture 360 today to
discuss the seating bowl and some suites.
Alright, well, it's been up overnight. Minima Lefty.
I'm trying to find other blogs that have some of the same templates as our choices but so far not
having much luck. I'll keep you posted if I do.
ADD: Okay, here are some looks at the templates. Several of our choices are on page 1.
The latest entry: Sand Dollar.
Gotta admit, not my favorite but we'll let you decide.
Here's the last of our template options. Fire away. Thanks to those who wished me a good vacation.
It's going well so far. My cell phone was stolen, though, but it's probably a sign I need to let go
of the constant connection and relax instead.
This template is the No. 565
It's Thisaway's turn to win readers over one last time in our final template poll.
I guess I might as well throw in my reaction to the Joe Cannon move. Personally, I liked Joe - he
was a stand-up guy who would take on most any question any reporter had. It makes me a little sad
to think that his honesty and my reporting what he said ever got him in trouble, because the world
needs more forthright people.
565, folks.
Welcome to 2008.
Last night, at practice, I was wishing "Happy New Year" to the U.S. Soccer staff, since it was the
first time this year I'd seen them. Neil Beuthe admitted that it seemed weird to him to hear good
wishes about 2008. He pointed out that we were in the middle of January.
Apparently, not too many of our readers want to turn and face the strain of change.
Or maybe a bunch are waiting to see the blog in a template they like before voting for it.
Anyway, today's look is Thisaway.
Speaking of jellyfish, I'm on vacation right now on an island, so I might run into a real one
sometime soon.
Yes, faithful readers, that's why I have no pics of the national team camp up right now. I'm not in
L.A.
"I'm a professional. I am 100% right".
So said referee Mark Halsey yesterday to Ipswich manager Jim Magilton after making a sending off
decision that was, in fact, 100% wrong. However, the man is most certainly a professional...
There are two fundamental factors that allow corruption to occur in a financial marketplace.
Hi Readers!
A lot of people commented that they liked the last template(565, the current one), but I didn't
realize the poll had closed, so no one could really vote for it. Anyway, I added No. 565 to the
list of template finalists.
OG SV, by the way, is the original template. Overall, more people voted in the last poll for some
sort of change than going back to the old look, so I think there is some interest in an update.
Minima Lefty, folks.
Vote, vote, vote! It's funny how OG SV dominated the original poll and then 565 has come on strong
in the finalist poll. I guess that makes Minima Lefty the John Edwards or Mike Huckabee of our
blog.
Or something. I'm probably overthinking it. Anyway, exercise your rights as a blog reader and vote.
Look familiar? This was pretty much the look for our blog in 2007, which I'm calling OG SV.
Anyway, my vacation is nearly over, and I'll get back to posting about soccer news when I get home.
I realize some of you are sick of the changing blog looks, but relax, that's nearly over, too. Last
chance to vote, folks.
It's the little things, the little, little things that matter sometimes.
Thanks to the contribution of our loyal and kind reader, Dave A, we now have a few extra touches on
our new template (see the soccer ball?).
And the 24/7 means that you'll be subjected to my random soccer thoughts when I'm insomniac in the
wee small hours.
Right off the bat, allow me to apologize for the lack of updates to this blog. What started out as
my launching pad into soccer journalism has evolved into a showcase for my work on Revsnet.com, and
the occasional informal mini-diatribe about global and local soccer.
Now, since my start at Revsnet, I've been trying to introduce some fresh flavors to this blog in
the hopes of keeping it flavorful (that is, if journalism can actually entice a sense of taste upon
one's tastebuds).
