Today Goal.com brings back the old rumor that the LA Galaxy is after Rafa Marquez, first reported
here on MLSR back in 2008.
Here's an excerpt:
MLS outfit LA Galaxy are interested in signing Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez for next season,
according to a report in Spanish publication Sport.
Big news on the official Barcelona website today is that Leo Messi has signed a new, improved
contract with the Blaugrana. They even have a photo of him putting pen to paper (which I've stolen
and embedded to your left) so it must be true. Young Leo (he's still only 22) already had a
contract with [.
First off, a happy Eid to all who celebrate it, and particularly to Barca's muslim players, Keita,
Yaya and Abidal! Right now we're running late and you'll have to excuse us the match report for
Barca-Atletico; but we've rounded up all the post-match tidbits:
- This was the fiftieth Liga match for Gerard Pique (having played 27 with Barca, 23 with Zaragoza)
and he played hella great.

Prior to today's match there were talks that both Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique were going to be
rested against Santander. Messi would receive rest because of a busy week ahead and Pique for a
knock he suffered over the weekend against Athletico Madrid. But when the starting lineups were
announced both players appeared.
Albert Riera has dismissed talk that he could have joined Barcelona in the summer, insisting that
he wanted to stay at "the biggest club in Europe".
The Catalan winger was linked with a move to Camp Nou as the Blaugrana sought a player to compete
with Thierry Henry down the left, but nothing materialised.

On Saturday FC Barcelona travel to Madrid to take on Getafe, who had a convincing 1-4 victory
over Racing Santander in first week action. Getafe, under new manager Michel, look to improve on a
dismal 2008/2009 season which saw them barely escape relegation. For FC Barcelona they cannot take
Michel's team lightly.
Is anyone surprised?!
It appears Barcelona will renew their efforts to sign Javier Mascherano and Cesc
Fabregas at some stage in the future, after their director of football Txiki Begiristain was quoted
by Sport as saying that the pursuit of the two midfielders is "something the club has left for
later".
So hey, you catch Barca, man? Shit hasn't changed, I know -- it's great. (Enough to raise a few
words up out me, which hopefully precedes a fit of non-dormancy here in the future.)
Sure, they always rip Baby Madrid to shreds at the Camp Nou, and there really couldn't have been a
worse game for Abel Resino to debut a raw, inchoate keeper in.
completo.

FC Barcelona defender Gabriel Milito arrived in El Prat Airport on Wednesday after spending four
months in Argentina recovering from a right knee injury suffered back in April 2008. Since joining
Barcelona from Zaragoza in July 2007 Milito has only appeared in 27 matches for the blaugrana.

FC Barcelona arrived in Madrid just hours before their match on Saturday against Getafe. With
Getafe coming off a strong performance in week one manager Pep Guardiola was aware that his team
must not show up unprepared.
The first half started off slow for the blaugrana as the team struggled on offense with Lionel
Messi, Thierry Henry, Andres Iniesta and Dani Alves all starting on the bench.
Two weeks into this early season and the top dogs in Spain are looking the part. Barcelona has
started their defence of their crown with two solid performances; a much brighter start than last
year when they lost and tied their first two games. The Blaugrana's back line has impressed me and
their mega-signing Dmytro Chigrynskiy has added some much needed stability in front of Victor
Valdes.
The European calendar resumes after an exciting break featuring World Cup qualifiers all over the
world. Week 2 of La Liga witnessed the two powers playing on Saturday to give them an extra days
rest before their midweek Champions League matches. Barcelona defeated Getafe on the road 2-0 with
goals by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and 2nd half sub Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi is ready to sign a seven year contract extension at FC Barcelona making him not
only the top paid in Europe but keeping with the blaugrana for years to come.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been in negotiations with Lionel's father and agent Jorge
and according to Laporta an agreement is "now close to being concluded.

There was much build up around the Inter vs Barcelona match up, aka. Eto'o vs Ibrahimovic, but
in the end the two teams battled to a draw at the San Siro. For FC Barcelona the emotions were
mixed heading back to the Camp Nou as the team left Milan unscathed but should have walked away
with a win having many opportunities on goal.

FC Barcelona today secured the best player in the world until 2016 when Lionel Messi signed a
two year contract extension. The new deal will see that the Argentine international play what will
likely be his most productive years at the Nou Camp.
Messi was under contract with the blaugrana until 2014 with a large 150 million euro buyout
clause on his contract.

Ancora Ibra-Messi.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has urged the club's owners to make funds available in order to secure
the transfer of David Villa from Spanish Primera Division side Valencia.
Villa was courted by both Barcelona and Real Madrid during the summer but while the Blaugrana
eventually opted to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan, Los Blancos signed Karim Benzema from
Lyon.
It's a feature of human nature that we are quick, in the heat of the moment, to see our point of
view over another's. However, the mature person is able to see, after some introspection, the
extent to which he is culpable.
Professional athletes often lack this maturity.
The lore of Emmanuel Adebayor includes tales of playing football barefoot on dirt fields as a
youth in his homeland of Togo.
Barcelona's win against Atletico may have been celebrated by the fans but Cruyff thinks the
Blaugrana must tighten things up at...
Although it is early, the league is already tight up top and no one will catch Real Madrid and
Barcelona. Both sides were once again convincing as the Catalans gave a clinic in Santander, while
the Merengues deep sixed the Yellow Submarine in Castellón.
Lionel Messi earned a brace while Cristiano Ronaldo led the pace of his team and neither were
able to be stopped.
Audaces fortuna iuvat
l'Inter è tornata prima in classifica.
champions.
