With Chelsea losing we knew we'd have a new number one team. And with Barcelona winning both games
they played last week, we had a pretty good idea who that team would be. Fine, but what about the
rest of the top 25? Specifically, where would Manchester City end up? They would be included,
right? Only one way to find out folks.
Not that there was ever much doubt but once his brilliant header flew past Edwin Van Der Sar in
the European Cup final Lionel Messi was always going to be this years recipient of the
Balon d'Or. The little genius from Argentina lit up European
football throughout season 2008-09, playing an instrumental role in Barcelona becoming the first
Spanish club to do the treble.
The final step of Barca's qualification to the Champions League last sixteen has them up against
Dynamo Kiev, with a simple draw being sufficient to ensure that the Blaugrana go on to the next
round. And we're more than certain that the boys will come off with an even score at the very
least!
Pep comes into this match with a nineteen man squad that includes Chygrynskiy even though he's not
allowed to participate in Cl matches with Barca this season; it seems he's along to celebrate with
the boys upon their qualification.
Madrid).
Barcelona come out of the Classico as winners, just as we expected they would! It was a great
match, with both teams coming out to play for the win, but the Madridistas were no match for the
Blaugrana in the end.
Upon seeing the formation, we had our misgivings because we were really hoping to see Iniesta in
midfield forming that brilliant alliance with Xavi, instead of where he was positioned on the left
wing alongside Henry and Messi.
This week was full of massive games, every major league had at least two gigantic clashes,
providing for spectacular footy for all us fans to watch.
Barcelona-Real Madrid EL CLASICO
An extremely important game for both teams, Real Madrid wanted to solidify their lead over
Barcelona, while the Blaugrana wanted to catch up to Los Blancos.
The day after Spain learned its competition in the group stage of 2010 World Cup, La Liga continued
toward crowning the best club team in Spain. League leaders, Barcelona went to the West Coast and
beat Deportivo La Coruña 3-1 at the Riazor. The 2009 Balon D'Or winner Lionel Messi scored twice
and Ibrahimovic added his 10th of the season to keep Barca undefeated.
Publicly tracked by Barcelona in the summer transfer window, Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano
has incited new transfer talk after rejecting a contract extension with Premier League side
Liverpool as reported by Sky Sports.
After expressing interest during the summer to play for the Blaugrana alongside countryman Lionel
Messi, the price tag placed on Mascherano proved to be too high for Barca's tastes.
New FC Barcelona star Pedro made the news this week when he scored in his sixth tournament of the
season at the FIFA World Club Cup. He's also been ever dependable for Barca in La Liga and
regularly challenges the likes of Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi for a starting spot in La
Blaugrana's front [..
Mejor, imposible.
Barcelona won their final and hoisted their sixth trophy in a fitting conclusion to the 2009
calendar year. Barca were dominant this year and it is entirely appropriate that they end the year
at the very top of our rankings. Behind them, things got a little messy (not to be confused with
Messi, Lionel), thanks largely to English clubs choking against inferior competition.
In the last few years, the top six teams have distanced themselves from the rest of La Liga.
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona represent the top two, and Villarreal, Atlético Madrid, Sevilla, and
Valencia compete for the next four places. Atlético Madrid continues their bumbling start into
the Christmas break, and Villarreal picked themselves up from a shocking beginning, but a Champions
League spot may be a bridge too far.
Idea Pedro.
