Another amazing stadium opens this weekend. (Wilf Thorne / Houston Dynamo)
All eyes this weekend will be on Houston. Major League Soccer get to open up yet another soccer
specific stadium and BBVA Compass Stadium will certainly be a proud one to display to the world.
The bright orange seats and the oven-like feeling inside will almost certainly give the Dynamo a
tough home environment to deal with.
Not to be out-shown by the atrocious work being done in the press box, both the United States
and Panama turned in embarrassingly poor performances in what was, by far, the least attractive
game of soccer in the Klinsmann era. Graham Zusi grabbed the game's only goal in the 9th minute,
lashing home a cross that the US was lucky to see bounce off the back of hapless striker Teal
Bunbury's leg inside the Panamanian area.

Each season in Major League Soccer there are a number of players that seemingly come out of
nowhere to enjoy a big season. A couple years ago it was Chris Wondolowski to last season with
Dominic Oduro finally finding his way in the Windy City with the Fire.
It is that time again, the new season is here and I will make my annual Bold
MLS Season Predictions.
Last year I did alright in some predictions, and pretty poorly in others. In years past I've
always thrown out a few random predictions to mix things up a bit so this isn't just another
predictions post out there.
LA and Salt Lake resume their rivalry to kickoff the season. (Getty Images)
The 2012 season is finally here folks. After a few months of offseason and preseason madness,
the new season is ready to kickoff. Many clubs have reason to be optimistic going into the new
season while expectations are already being placed on the big boys in the league to do well again
once more this season.

The New York Red Bulls had months to address many of the pressing problems surrounding the team,
but their opening day loss felt quite familiar. Defensive miscues put young rookie goalkeeper
Ryan Meara under fire, set piece situation's looked as shaky as ever, and the team could only
manage to find an attacking rhythm in spurts.

As the final whistle blew on the New York Red Bulls' season-opening loss to FC Dallas, no one
was more visibly angered than Thierry Henry - and with good reason. The Red Bulls' lack of
rhythm, cohesion and inability to move forward was a throw-back to a time he would have much rather
forgotten.

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the
performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1
horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection).
It's Monday. So along with the other usual suspects (posts) around here, I think I may try a new
one as the MLS Discipline Committee continues to hand down weekly suspensions and fines. Its a new
game of guess who gets fined or suspended this week!

With the international break nearly here, MLS teams are cramming in games before World Cup
qualifiers begin, and the result is a numerous mid-week matches.
Four MLS games and a friendly accompany the Canadian championship on the docket Wednesday night,
highlighted by the New York Red Bulls' five-game winning streak being put to the test by recent
trade partner Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy looking to end their struggles against the San
Jose Earthquakes in the California Clasico.
FC Dallas has emerged from its offseason slumber in a big way.
The club signed Panama striker Blas Perez and young Colombian defender Hernan Pertuz on Tuesday,
addressing two areas of need with international-caliber talent. Neither deal was classified as a
Designated Player signing according to a team release.

offseason? How about Dallas signing Panamanian forward Blas Perez.

Jon Levy The Yanks are coming off what's becoming the typical Jurgen Klinsmann USMNT performance

defense. But they did get a pinch of [.

Four days after putting together an impeccable performance against Venezuela, the United States
had to overcome a sloppy and disheveled showing to escape Estadio Rommel Fernandez with a 1-0 win

chances to equalize against a maligned back line during the international friendly.

U.S. men's national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann scheduled the friendly in Panama to
experience what a road game in CONCACAF was like, and he got just what he wanted.
Four days after beating Venezuela, the United States defeated Panama, 1-0, on Wednesday night in
a game that felt much like a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier on the road.

A red-hot start. A faltering finish. Brek Shea's dominating season. David Ferreira's season-long
injury.
For FC Dallas, the 2011 season was a year full of high and lows. Led by U.S. men's national team
winger Brek Shea, the team looked a serious contender for the MLS Cup before a heavy schedule that
included MLS regular season, U.
Continuing our trip West, we look at teams that the Colorado Rapids will be battling for a
playoff spot in 2012.
FC Dallas: Pizza Hut Park is home to one of my two enigmas for the coming
season. The defense looks better with George John's return, but there are questions on whether
Dallas is closer to the 2010 team that went to the MLS Cup finals, or a squad likely to scrape by
into the playoffs.

Alright, let me try my hand at these...
1. Real Salt Lake: Tore apart defending champs at their place.
2. Seattle: Will get more accurate read once league play starts.
3. LA Galaxy: Um... they're still pretty good.
4. Sporting KC: Took a late winner but got job done.

An excellent Blas Perez and crap defending by the Red Bulls saw them lose their MLS opener to FC
Dallas.
Perez, the Panamanian signing was instrumental in creating both goals for Dallas while Kenny
Cooper, the record goalscorer for his old club, scored on debut for Red Bulls to pull one back.
The Colombian influence in MLS continues to grow.
FC Dallas continued to do their part in maintaining the trend by signing 25-year-old Colombian
striker Luis Perea, adding a complement up top to Blas Perez and giving FCD more firepower during a
time which Brek Shea is off on U.
Quick Recap: The Portland Timbers looked terrible in the first and were very lucky to only give
up 1 goal. Portland responded well to whatever John Spencer said at half time and looked like a
different team in the 2nd half but only got the equalizer. 1 to 1 on the road.
First Half:
It was as if Portland decided to remind the fans what they were like on the road during the 2011
season.
Geoff was not available to do the player ratings this week so I will
be filling in for him today. -Will
Yesterday the Portland Timbers struggled early on against FC Dallas, looking extremely shaky as
they went down 1-0 before the half. However, in the second half of play the Timbers came roaring
back, grabbing an early equalizer and looking likely to take all three points until tiring later
on.

we'll be in April. Week 4 in Major League Soccer gets started a little early with a game tomorrow
night in DC with United hosting FC Dallas.
