Real Salt Lake saw two leads disappear and looked destined to settle for a point against FC
Dallas on Saturday.
Then Nat Borchers delivered a stoppage-time finish any forward, let alone centerback, would be
proud off.
Borchers struck a close-range shot into the top corner of the net in the third minute of
second-half stoppage time to give Real Salt Lake a 3-2 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday
night.
*MacMath is listed as out according to yesterday's MLS Injury Report,
but is questionable in the Union's game preview. is out, Konopka starting.
A blow to the head in practice and multiple run-ins with opposing players has left the
Philadelphia Union with only one option in goal heading into today's game against Toronto FC.
I have to give it up to the Chicago Fire and their digital crew. They produced two crafty
commercials for this weekend's game against the Crew.
One is Dominic Oduro running fast through the grocery store, celebrating an orange going into a
bag like a goal and just well, being fast.
The other is keeper Sean Johnson in the same grocery story.

Midweek MLS action was plentiful. Among all the chatter about US Open Cup and the Canadian
Championship, the league held some exciting matches. New York fans honored Juan Pablo Angel with a
deserved banner and Columbus stunned Seattle with a 2-0 win.
With the international break nearly here, MLS teams are cramming in games before World Cup
qualifiers begin, and the result is a numerous mid-week matches.
Four MLS games and a friendly accompany the Canadian championship on the docket Wednesday night,
highlighted by the New York Red Bulls' five-game winning streak being put to the test by recent
trade partner Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy looking to end their struggles against the San
Jose Earthquakes in the California Clasico.

Chase Harrison could have given up on pro soccer long ago.
It could have been after the 2006 season, when Real Salt Lake drafted him, loaned him out to a
USL team that folded at season's end, and then waived him before he appeared in a single match.
(The club drafted Chris Seitz a few months later.

FC Dallas and the Philadelphia Union's respective winless runs continue.
Panamanians Blas Perez and Gabriel Gomez each found the back of the net for their teams, as FC
Dallas and the Union played to a 1-1 draw at FC Dallas Stadium on Saturday. The result leaves FC
Dallas without a victory in their last seven games, while the Union have not won in their last
four.
It wasn't pretty, but it counts.
In the 56th minute, Gabriel Gomez lowered his head and, with Philadelphia's first shot of the
match, tied the score at one. As he scored, Gomez collided with Dallas goalie Kevin Hartman and had
to leave the match, but the Union held on for the point in front of 13,272 at FC Dallas Park in
Frisco, Texas.
In this past week, a new stadium opened, a new leader emerged in the East, and there were a
number of beautiful goals. I considered just posting highlights of goals, but there was much more
than goals happening. Also, I need to reach a minimum word count to post a story. Let's run down
the action, shall we?
Another amazing stadium opens this weekend. (Wilf Thorne / Houston Dynamo)
All eyes this weekend will be on Houston. Major League Soccer get to open up yet another soccer
specific stadium and BBVA Compass Stadium will certainly be a proud one to display to the world.
The bright orange seats and the oven-like feeling inside will almost certainly give the Dynamo a
tough home environment to deal with.
Summer friendly season gets an early start, as Schalke visits PPL Park to take on the
Philadelphia Union tonight at 7:30.
The match gives U.S. national team fans a chance to check out Jermaine Jones' before his
expected call into May training camp in addition to seeing Bundesliga-leading scorer Klaas-Jan
Huntelaar and star Spanish striker Raul, who will not be returning to Schalke after this season and
is entertaining transfer moves to other leagues.
At one point the path to Western Conference victory was assumed to include FC Dallas. Their slow
start puts the Toros in 6th, but their struggles are deeper than the 12 points in 10 played
indicate. Similar to the Seattle Sounders, Dallas lost a player to injury last year. David Ferriera
is still out after his ankle injury last year.
Colorado played like the better team for 34 minutes when facing Dallas 11 on 11, then suddenly they
were 11 on 9 and the game was essentially over. In the 25th minute Daniel "Real Championship"
Hernandez was given a yellow card for dissent after complaining to the ref for not calling a foul
on the Rapids.
On Sunday night, the Colorado Rapids defeated FC Dallas 2-0 in a penalty-filled affair at FC
Dallas Stadium.
FC Dallas lost two men to red cards in the first half, forcing the club to play with nine men
for 54 minutes of the match.
Midfielder Daniel Hernandez was the first to be shown a red, after picking up his second yellow
card in only the 34th minute.
Rapids in Colorado punish the unprepared and the undermanned. On Sunday, the Colorado Rapids
went on the road and did the same as their namesake white water, knocking off a nine-man FC Dallas
squad 2-0.
Jaime Castrillon scored in the 61st minute with a header off a Brian Mullan cross and Martin
Rivero netted his first MLS goal with assists from Mullan and Kamani Hill in the 74th minute.
When FC Dallas started Sunday's match against the Colorado Rapids, they were already facing the
prospect of trying to win without Brek Shea, sidelined by turf toe. Two red cards later, Dallas'
task went from difficult to impossible.
First-half red cards to Daniel Hernandez and Blas Perez gave the visiting Rapids a two-man
edge.
It's Monday. So along with the other usual suspects (posts) around here, I think I may try a new
one as the MLS Discipline Committee continues to hand down weekly suspensions and fines. Its a new
game of guess who gets fined or suspended this week!

It had been six years since Bill Gaudette had started a game in Major League Soccer. His start
Saturday proved an eventful one.
Gaudette filled in for starter Josh Saunders and held Dallas to one goal in a 1-1 draw with
Dallas. He faced his first shots in the game's first minute and stopped four shots on the day.

Herculez Gomez and Santos Laguna have a two-goal hill to climb in Torreon, Mexico, when they
take on Monterrey with the CONCACAF Champions League title on the line (8 p.m., Fox Soccer
Channel/Telefutura).
Monterrey will try to defend their 2-0 lead after the first leg and finish off their second
consecutive run to the CCL title, but in order to do so they'll have to fend off an explosive
Santos Laguna team in a brutal place to play for opponents all while playing without their
suspended star striker Humberto Suazo.

Big thanks to the Philadelphia Union players, coaches and fans who attended Tuesday

Yes, this news came down yesterday afternoon and honestly many here in Dallas were stunned by
the news. Perez was given a one game suspension for an elbow on Whitecaps defender Jordan
Harvey in the first half of Saturday's game with Vancouver.

Blas Perez has been on the wrong end of a challenge deemed suspension-worthy by the MLS
Disciplinary Committee. Now he's the one being suspended.
The FC Dallas striker has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his elbow
to Vancouver defender Jordan Harvey in their matchup Saturday night.

D.C. United aims to end one dubious streak Wednesday night, while Sporting Kansas City looks to
keep their impressive one intact.
That is what's on the line in two mid-week MLS matches, as D.C. hosts the Montreal Impact and
Sporting Kansas City leaves the confines of Livestrong Sporting Park, heading north to face the
Vancouver Whitecaps.
Brek Shea picked a good time to come out of his early-season slump.
Shea scored his first goal of the season on an 88th-minute effort that saw FC Dallas complete
their comeback to top the Montreal Impact, 2-1, at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Texas on Saturday
night. The result improved FC Dallas to 3-2-1 while it dropped Montreal to 1-5-1.

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the
performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1
horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection).
I think we can all agree that this was a game to forget. There are no excuses this time. No
narrow pitch or early red card to blame. This one was a winnable game, for the most part, but I do
not think that the Revs deserved to win it. To be fair, I don't think Dallas did either; a point a
piece would have been a just end to this match.
One of the biggest surprises of the young MLS season has been the play of the San Jose
Earthquakes, who moved into a tie for first place in the Western Conference with their recent 1-0
win against the Seattle Sounders.
San Jose's impressive 3-1 start has been due in part to the standout performances of a handful
of players who have played some of the best soccer in the league, a reason why the Earthquakes
boast a league-high three selections on SBI's MLS Best XI for March.
Ugo Ihemelu scored a dramatic game-winning goal almost five minutes into second-half stoppage
time as the New England Revolution suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to FC Dallas on Thursday night
at FC Dallas Stadium.
The Revs (2-3-0, 6 pts.) were just moments away from grinding out a scoreless draw and finishing
their two-game road trip with four well-earned points before Ihemelu buried a header from Zach
Loyd's free kick in the 95th minute.
Seconds away from heading back to Foxboro with four points from a two-game road trip, the New
England Revolution saw a scoreless draw turn into a 1-0 defeat to FC Dallas with a series of
errors. The kickoff to final whistle effort that had been so prevalent in the Revs two game winning
streak disappeared late in stoppage time as an unnecessary foul and lackadaisical marking allowed
Ugo Ihemelu to head in the game-winner.
It was A.J. Soares' only foul of the match that cost the Revs any points in Frisco, TX Thursday
night. A late stoppage-time goal by Ugo Ihemelu from a set piece in the Dallas attacking third was
the dagger in the heart for the Revs, who played a mostly uninspired and sluggish match until the
dwindling moments.
The New England Revolution are about to take on FC Dallas in Frisco tonight. This game will
close out a two-match road trip that began this past weekend with a surprise 3-1 upset of Los
Angeles. Dallas has plenty to play for as well, including pride after DC smacked them like
twice-rented mules on the weekend, winning by a stunning 4-1 score line.
The New England Revolution is looking to win three in a row for the first time since 2009 when
they take on FC Dallas in Frisco tonight. The Revs handily dispatched the Galaxy in Los Angeles
last weekend by a 3-1 score line, bolstered by goals from Kelyn Rowe, Chris Tierney and Saer Sene.
Dallas, meanwhile, is 1-2-1 and just got resoundingly smashed 4-1 by DC.
The New England Revolution is preparing to close out a two-match extended road trip (they never
returned to Foxboro after the LA game) against FC Dallas in Frisco. The Revs are brimming with
confidence and enthusiasm after dominating the Galaxy 3-1 in LA. Dallas, meanwhile, was just
spanked 4-1 by D.
The MLS disciplinary committee is bringing down the hammer.
After reviewing the past weekend's matches, the league's disciplinary arm has suspended FC
Dallas' Jair Benitez, D.C. United's Brandon McDonald and Vancouver Whitecaps' Atiba Harris a game
apiece and fined them for violent conduct, and fined D.
Week 4 of MLS action saw two league leaders fall and one come back on the road. The Revolution
handed the Galaxy a defeat to put them in last place of the Western Conference while Real Salt Lake
climbed back to win against Portland. San Jose gave Seattle all they can handle and suddenly out of
nowhere the New York Red Bulls impressed.
Maicon Santos had two goals and an assist in D.C. United's first win of the season, a 4-1 win over
visiting FC Dallas last night at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Rookie Nick De Leon pitched in a
goal and ...
