While it remains to be seen whether or not David Ferreira, who left in the second half of a 1-1 draw with Portland on Wednesday night with a hamstring injury, will be able to play on Saturday night against DC United, one has to wonder if indeed the 2010 MLS MVP can't answer the bell then who would fill in for him?
Two teams that both carry seven match unbeaten streaks will meet on May 8 at FC Dallas Stadium when the Portland Timbers visit FC Dallas in a midweek battle. While the Timbers are a bit testy after their draw against New England, FC Dallas hasn't played since drawing with Vancouver back in late April.
Memo to Mark Followill: You don't say "With Dante Washington, I'm Mark Followill". The correct protocol is "With THE GREAT Dante Washington, I'm Mark Followill".
I'll excuse it just this once, Mark.
Raúl Fernández v Joe Cannon is quite the goalkeeping matchup. The final score tonight could very well be a negative number.
Here are the match highlights from Saturday's home win again Vancouver Whitecaps.
Scoring Summary: DAL – Own goal (Brad Rusin) 29 DAL – Blas Perez 50
FC Dallas – Raul Fernandez, Jair Benitez, George John, Matt Hedges, Zach Loyd, David Ferreira, Andrew Jacobson, Michel, Jackson (Je-Vaughn Watson 85), Kenny Cooper (Fabian Castillo 76), Blas Perez (Eric Hassli 89).
FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman Thoughts on the match... We had an outstanding first half. We created a lot of opportunities, played with very good ball movement, very quick, very unselfish. We took a 1-0 lead, and then we came back in the second half and, again, just started right back.
FC Dallas was a victim of that great adage in Saturday's 2-2 tie in Toronto. A match Dallas wholly bossed until the final 20 minutes after Hyndman made the first of two substitutions. The irony of the subs actually highlighted what had been working so well before they were made.
Match highlights from the FCD late game meltdown at Toronto FC. After dominating most of the game FCD feel apart int he last 10 minutes.
Scoring Summary: DAL – Andrew Jacobson (Kenny Cooper, Michel) 34 DAL – Blas Perez (Jackson) 59 TOR – Justin Braun 85 TOR – Darel Russell (Luis Silva) 90
FC Dallas – Raul Fernandez, Jair Benitez (Bobby Warshaw 86), George John (London Woodberry 45), Matt Hedges, Zach Loyd, David Ferreira, Andrew Jacobson, Michel, Jackson, Kenny Cooper (Fabian Castillo 72), Blas Perez.

TORONTO — If you're seeking clues about why FC Dallas had to settle for a 2-2 draw Saturday against Toronto FC, you could blame the weather: 40 degrees with stiff crosswinds.
Or you could pinpoint the pitch, which FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman says is lumpier than it appears, leaving newcomers clueless about its intricacies.
We have in the past here at 3rd Degreeplayedthe occasional April Fools joke on the site. Fake ex-boxer signing, check. Owner taking over as technical director, check. The return of Carlos Ruiz, check.
Being a the Dallas Morning News for such a short period of time, it justseemedlike a April Fools joke was out of order this year.
The encyclopedia says Stream of Consciousness is "a narrative mode that seeks to portray an individual's point of view by giving the written equivalent of the character's thought processes."In other words, DJ watches games, and writes down whatever comes to mind. Sometimes prescient, sometimes odd, almost always entertaining.
Blas Perez has had a busy week. The Panamanian striker has led the line for his country's national team, helping 'Los Caneleros' move into first place in the CONCACAF Hexagonal round of World Cup qualifying.
The fatigue associated with international duty kept Perez from starting on Saturday night for a streaking FC Dallas side, but when he came off the bench he provided a reminder of just why he is so important to Schellas Hyndman's squad.
The New England Revolution closed out a two-match home stand on Saturday night by losing 1-0 to FC Dallas in an affair that could be easily categorized as a tale of two halves. Second-half substitute Blas Perez converted the winner for the Hoops in the 87th minute, after the Revs had enjoyed the better of the play during that period.
And with that, FC Dallas is in first place and winners of three of their first four matches.
Playing a depleted Real Salt Lake side, Dallas' feisty 2-0 win gives coach Schellas Hyndman more opportunities to impress the positives, "It was a good game by our players. They moved the ball very well, did the things we've been working on in training and created scoring chances.
With Blas Perez currently away with the Panamanian national team, one of the big questions surrounding FC Dallas this week centers on who will replace him up top in Saturday's match with Real Salt Lake in Frisco?
On one hand, it could be fellow veteran Eric Hassli, who to this point has come off the bench in two of FCD's last three matches.
FCD will be missing some key pieces for the Real Salt Lake game this weekend. Blas Perez (Panama), Je-Vaughn Watson (Jamaica) and Raul Fernandez (Peru) have left to join their national teams for World Cup Qualifying matches.
FCD reserve defender Kellyn Acosta is also away on national team duty with the U.
Here's five questions to think about for Sunday's important match against Houston:
1) What formation does Hyndman go with? The plan in the preseason was to buy up some firepower, pair it with Blas and rain goals like hail in last year's big storm. But Dallas is missing something a capable defensive midfielder.
Last week was an ugly win at home against Colorado. This time it was an ugly loss on the road to Chivas USA. Win, loss the common word in both is, "ugly".
No matter your allegiance, Sunday's somewhat shocking 3-1 loss was terribly played by both sides. Chivas came out playing very rough and instantly put the pain on Dallas' midfielders.
Other than David Ferreira, there might not be a more important player on the FC Dallas roster this year than Andrew Jacobson, who figures to play a pretty integral role in FCD's new 4-4-2 formation. Here's what A.J. had to say several days ago about several different subjects.
FC Dallas had a 2012 the club would rather forget. Injuries and a lack of consistent form made for a challenging campaign that left the club with more questions than answers.
Making matters worse was a strong run at the end that fell just short of the last spot in the playoffs once stars like David Ferreria and Blas Perez made their way into the starting XI.
FC Dallas looked a far better team in their last pre-season match on Saturday against MLS heavyweights, San Jose. The final score, a 2-1 loss, really doesn't tell the story that Dallas actually bossed the match for most of the 90 minutes.
Dallas deployed what will likely be their formation and starting 11 for the season opener next Saturday.
The Portland Timbers went deep into their bench and reserves to field a lineup against FC Dallas on February 20. The plan, according to Coach Caleb Porter, was to give players who hadn't seem much time a chance to show their skills to see if they could factor into the opening day roster for the Timbers when they start the MLS season on March 3.
He was a man that had plenty of names when he was here between 2006 and 2009, whether it was Super Cooper, Franken Cooper, No. 33 or whatever. But Monday's announcement that Kenny Cooper was indeed returning to FC Dallas for the first time since 2009 was definitely an announcement that was music to the ears of everyone who has ever followed FCD as a fan or covered them as a member of the leering press.

I've sat on this story all weekend, I blame the SuperBowl for that.
Late Friday afternoon FC Dallas tweeted out that they were interested in trading for forward and Designated Player Eric Hassli from Toronto FC. Yeah, the club actually tweeted out that they were in talks with another club about a specific player.
There are several big questions facing FC Dallas this preseason, even with the departure of Brek Shea to England on Thursday. One of the major queries that FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman must address is whether or not the team will play in a 4-4-2, his preferred formation of choice throughout his coaching career or the 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 that has been the norm over the past few seasons.

With Blas Perez now being back in training after his recent stint with the Panamanian national team, FC Dallas now has all hands on deck. Monday morning marked the first training session of preseason for No. 9 and the man who knocked in nine goals to lead FC Dallas last season despite missing 12 games and FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman offered the following assessment as to how the veteran striker looked.
With Monday afternoon marking the official start of preseason for FC Dallas, there are still several players not in Frisco for the start of preseason and several others who are present but aren't training. Here's a quick rundown.

Maybe it was after the final whistle had sounded and the curtain had officially fallen on the 2012 FC Dallas season but then again, maybe it was weeks before when some of us called this team's playoff chances DOA, but once the '12 campaign was officially in the books, it was time to figure out what the biggest questions facing FCD were heading into what promised to be a short yet eventful off-season.
Time to pay the piper... Scoring: 4 and a half points. Wow, that's brutal. Worst ever. Didn't see the insane SJ season coming, but did anyone? George john is gonna get me 5 and a half, come on Geroge!

Even before FC Dallas' 2012 season officially came to a merciful end with a 2-2 draw against Chivas USA on Oct. 28, anyone who followed the team at all this season and for the last several years for that matter knew what the top priority would be this off-season: adding a striker to give FCD some much-needed depth up top.
