Yet more managers teetering on the edge Blackpool Blackpool have far exceeded expectations, this
much is clear, and wins away at Wigan, Newcastle and Liverpool have provided the Tangerine Army
with much to cheer. Reality has now set in, however, and a winter of discontent looks apparent. The

As the African Cup of Nations 2010 reaches the semi finals stage I thought we might revive an
interesting feature that we ran for the 2008 tournament in Ghana on Just Football, namely
Goalwatch. Its an oldie but a goodie, in which we tracked every goalscorer as well as the domestic
league they play in, in order to bring you a list of the leagues that contribute most to African
Cup of Nations success.
COS contributor James Ball takes a look at two contrasting managerial figures who have tasted
the sweet nectar of success this season.

It is not likely that Blackpool has ever been compared to Milan, but two footballing triumphs
over the weekend can be attributed to a common attribute: inspired management.
United States midfielder Michael Bradley appears to be on the verge of joining Premier League
new boys Blackpool FC. The Tangerines, who will open their campaign away to Wigan, will be
looking forward to completing the transfer for a low fee. In case the Bundesliga outfit provide a
higher-than-expected valuation for the unsettled player, Daily Mail reports that
Blackpool will seek to bring Bradley to Bloomfield Road on loan.
In a culture where we readily deploy American sporting metaphor in everyday conversation, there's
little reason to embrace the English Premier League. It opens, at least in terms of its general
reception by the American "sports as sacred" public, with three strikes against it, or at the very
least, on fourth and long.
I'm a little behind on some of my data collection for this season, but in case you were wondering
where things stand so far this year on goal to shot ratios and other common metrics, I'll be
providing some updates in the days ahead. So here's a first small installment to whet your
appetite. This one is on goal to shot ratios (one of the stats we have Charles Reep to be thankful
for).

City FC e Leicester City FC.
Ian Holloway came very close to securing all three points against his former club but a great
goal from Matt Connolly earned QPR a draw.

Newcastle went to town against Blackpool at St James' Park. Having already secured promotion to
the Premier League one could have forgiven Chris Hughton's side of taking their foot off the pedal
but that was not to be the case.
Goals from Jonas Gutierrez, Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan and Wayne Routledge saw the Toon Army go
four goals up against play-off hopefuls Blackpool.
The FA Cup final is almost upon us and Portsmouth and Chelsea will soon be battling to win the
world's premier domestic cup competition. Along with the FA Cup sponsor E.ON, we think this is a
great time to salute some of football's unsung heroes, specifically goalkeepers. They may be stars
of tomorrow, or just players who have given a lot back to their community.
Blackpool came from a goal down to secure a vital win in this play-off first leg at Bloomfield
Road.

Blackpool secured promotion to the Premier League with this fine win over Cardiff City in an
incredibly exciting Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley. The Bloomfield Road side had Brett
Ormerod to thank as the veteran scored the crucial goal in a match said to be worth £90m to the
winner.

It's hard to believe that ten years ago, Blackpool were about to start the season in the fourth
tier of English football, what we now refer to as League 2. They finished 7th that season but
gained promotion through the play-offs, a habit they would repeat time and again over the next few
years.
It wasn't until 2007 that they got out of that division, finishing third and using the play-offs
for promotion.
Blackpool Football Club is an English football club founded in 1887 from the Lancashire seaside
town of Blackpool. Nicknamed The Seasiders, Blackpool will compete in the English Premier League
for the first time ever during the 2010/11 season. Following a climb of four divisions over nine
years, Blackpool's appearance in the EPL will mark their [.
One of the matches I watched live during the opening day of the Premier League was the one
featuring Wigan Athletic against Blackpool at the DW Stadium in
Lancashire. I watched it live on FoxSoccer.tv. But I was astonished as most viewers were what
unfolded before my eyes as Wigan completely collapsed defensively and Blackpool capitalized on
their complacency, completely ripping apart the Latics.
Recall from my earlier post that the 2009-10 Premiership season was unusually rich in goals. The
season came within a whisker of having the most goals ever in the history of the league, and its
1,053 goals and 2.8 goals per match were among the highest ever.
So now that the first matches have been played in this year's EPL season (with the exception of
Monday's Man U - Newcastle matchup), I thought it'd be useful to take a quick look at goal and shot
ratios for 2009-10 to get us up to speed on how teams got there, and what this may hold for
2010-11.
I love the Internet, and, with sites such as Ustream and Justin.tv, I can view live matches right
on my laptop. No more televisions for me!
However, I can't take the laptop everywhere, and there were quite a few times during World Cup 2010
that I had to miss a few matches because I was out and about.
Nobody saw this one coming. Yes, Liverpool is in complete shambles, but a team of Liverpool's
caliber still beats the little guys week in and week out. That was not the case on Sunday, though,
as the Reds' pathetic start to the season continued.
Blackpool traveled to Anfield and took full advantage of a Liverpool squad that is still
searching for their footing seven matches into the season.
U.K. media outlets including Mail Online report that Liverpool have joined the race to land
24-year-old Valter Birsa of AJ Auxerre.
Just recently the Slovenian international midfielder scored vs. Ajax in 2010-11 UEFA Champions
League action.
EPL clubs Blackpool and Wigan are also targeting the midfielder.
Via The Sun:
Blackpool are focused on Dundee's striker Leigh Griffiths and with the Scottish side in
administration, Blackpool could get the forward at bargain prices.
Also via The Sun comes a report stating that boss Ian Holloway fears that a bigger
Premiership club will swoop for Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam this January.
Gers boss Walter Smith appears keen to bring in the Blackpool goalkeeper who is out of a contract
in June.

Blackpool's influential midfielder Charlie Adam (who, I've decided, is roughly
two inbred chromosomes away from being Elvis Costello's illegitimate son) has won his legal battle
with the club over an unpaid £20,000 'Championship survival' bonus and, crucially, has managed to
do so without having the terms of his contract breached.
Promoted club Blackpool FC has been one of the surpirse packages of the 2010/11 English Premier
League with their workmanlike efforts resulting in a current top ten position. The Seasiders
recently launched their Carbrini 2010/11 third kit. It was used for the first time during
Saturday's 1-0 win over Stoke City in league action.

ERAN ZAHAVI: A shame that this didn't prove to be the winning goal for Hapoel
Tel Aviv in their UEFA Champions League 2010-11 match against Olympique Lyonnais but a beautiful
overhead kick nonetheless.
