Sunday is derby day in the Premier League as huge contests in the Second City, Merseyside and
Wear-Tyneside take the spotlight. Birmingham host Aston Villa in a 12pm kick-off, while Sunderland
and Newcastle also meet at high noon, and Liverpool welcome Everton across Stanley Park later in
the afternoon.
Manchester United's kept their spot at the top of the league, no matter how many times Gary
Neville tried to give it away. Macnehster City's even on points after their win over Blackpool,
while Arsenal was convincing at a St. Andrews' Stadium that's often inhospitable to visitors.
On this edition of the EPL Talk podcast, myself, Laurence McKenna and Jesse Chula (filling in
for the infirm Kartik Krishnaiyer) and talk about the weekend that was in our favorite football
league.
We apologise for missing the last three or four rounds of predictions while celebrating

January Transfer Window: 5 potential last minute deals is a post from: Just Football
With just over a week remaining of the January transfer window 2011, teams
around Europe are busy scrambling around looking for the last big purchase or bargain buy of the
season, desperately grabbing onto whatever they can and shoving their fellow shoppers out of the
aisle like contestants on Supermarket Sweep.
On a rainy day on the western shore of England, Blackpool put a scare into the Red Devils of
Manchester in an entertaining match. In the end, United prevailed as the Tangerines were unable to
finish off the League leaders, 2-3.
FORMATIONS: Both teams fielded 4-3-3 formations.
**With no real breaking news on the transfer front and Ed and I
feeling as though there's little more to say that hasn't already been said, it seems as though it
wouldn't hurt to bump this post on tactics back to the top of the page. It went up while people
were already occupied with the initial Torres rumours, and an hour later the Suarez story broke and
completely buried it.
Manchester City were dealt a big blow ahead of their top four showdown with Arsenal as both
David Silva and Mario Balotelli will miss the game at the Emirates.
Silva, who limped off during Saturday's win over Blackpool with a knee injury could be out for
two week according to City Manager Roberto Mancini:
"We have a big problem, because we have Mario and David injured and not available for
tomorrow.

It's not even been a year since he's joined the Arsenal bandwagon and in this short span he's
pulled us out of one too many sticky spots. Arsene Wenger's blatant preference to get him on board
last season was obvious to all. And finally at the end of May 2010, all the way from Bordeaux came
a big man with a big heart and swept us off our feet with his charm.
Short video today for everyone by way of SnappedUp. Think it get's the point across nicely
though.

Seasiders secure Battle of the Pools double Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Any Liverpool fans under the
impression that Kenny Dalglish's return would spark an immediate revival in the club's fortunes
have been served up a definitive answer by Ian Holloway's Blackpool. Liverpool suffered a second
defeat of the season to the Premier League [.
It is still largely quiet in the media surrounding Arsenal's transfer targets, the only news
available is about Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Preston North End are the club interested but I don't
believe he will go there for a second, there are a variety of reasons and I will take you through
them: Wages: Emmanuel-Thomas had the option [.
There is a well-known saying in American sport, often offered in support of coaches far more
embattled than Kenny Dalglish at this stage of his second honeymoon.
It says that you can't make chicken salad out of chicken****. Dalglish may well consider his
situation desperate enough to employ this coarse but vivid phrase when he sits down with owner John
W Henry.
Liverpool defender Martin Kelly has said that fellow defender Glen Johnson has helped him improve
as a player, despite both being in direct competition for the right-back role in the side.
Kelly has started in every one of Kenny Dalglish's three games in charge so far and has earned
praise for his performances.

MANCHESTER Dimitar Berbatov scored a hat trick as Manchester United dominated Birmingham, 5-0, in
English Premier League action on Saturday. With the win, United stays at the top of the table, all
alone after Manchester City's loss later in the day. Arsenal actually jumped into second, two
points back of the leaders.
Morning all. Throughout January Soccerlens is going to be bringing you a daily round-up
of the morning's various goings-on. Be it juicy morsels of spurious transfer gossip or real, actual
bona fide news, rest assured, we'll have it covered.
Here's this morning's batch.

Word is reaching Pies (via those diligent bods over at Sky Sports News) that Blackpool captain
Charlie Adam has handed in a formal transfer request at Bloomfield Road, in a bid to push through a
£5 million move to Liverpool.
More when we have it.

Okay, the travel has ended for a few weeks so we are going back to a full schedule of entries
starting now. Of course, now isn't the best time to be at a full schedule because there's really
not a hell of a lot going on. Oh, sure there's a lot of domestic cup action but those are just
glorified exhibitions, at least for the top clubs and at least until the semifinals.
Arsenal and Chelsea were both interested in signing Craig Cathcart but instead he chose to join
the ranks at Manchester United. He made his way up through the ranks and was named captain.
However, after not progressing as much as the club hoped, he was allowed to leave for Blackpool
at a bargain price at the start of this season.
Blackpool vs Manchester United Bloomfield Road, Blackpool- January 25, 2011 Final score:- Blackpool
2-3 Manchester United ( Cathcart,Campbell/ Berbatov*2, Hernandez) A brilliant second half comeback
from Manchester United allows the Red Devils to beat Blackpool 3-2 at Bloomfield Road after
trailing 2-0 at the lemon break.
Look Nick, getting past 2 is easy.
Before we turn our attention to yet another cup match, I want to take a little moment to reflect
on the league. Manchester United has just gone 5 points ahead of us, now that they've finally
played their match in hand. Yet, it could have so easily been just 2 points even after that
Tuesday's game at Blackpool.

Just imagine the scenario – the final day of the campaign is over, and West Ham United have
finished a point adrift of 17th spot, sentencing themselves to a year, at least, in the
Championship.
Southampton vs Manchester United FA Cup fourth round- January 29, 2011 Final score:- Southampton
1-2 Manchester United ( Richard Chaplow/ Michael Owen, Javier Hernandez) After their comeback act
against Blackpool in midweek, Manchester United produce another excellent recovery performance to
beat valiant Southampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

LIVERPOOL, England Joe Cole may have earned under-pressure Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson some
breathing space with a last gasp winner against Bolton at Anfield. With the club's owners
reportedly seeking a replacement, the summer signing's first league goal and Fernando Torres'
equaliser came at just the right time for the former Fulham boss.
Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez scored to keep Manchester United at the top of the Barclays
Premier League on goal difference with a 2-1 win at West Brom. Rooney opened the scoring when he
headed in Patrice Evra's cross on three minutes but James Morrison equalised with a long-range
shot.
There is increasing speculation that Arsenal's Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is a target for East Midland's
based Nottingham Forest. Thomas' team mate Aaron Ramsey has just completed a short-term loan deal
at the club and with Arsenal keen to take Ramsey back, Forest are believed to have inquired as to
the availability of the tall but skilful attacking [.
