I have some beef with MLS. And I caution you in advance: Don't read more into this than I'm
spitting out. I know I'm about to get all #firstworldprobs on you, but MLS Live's blackout deal
with Galavision sucks. OK, so you can't overlap on NBC. You can't cut in on ESPN either. But I can
understand Arlo White and Taylor Twellman, even though sometimes I'd rather not.
Umbro has followed 2011′s New York Cosmos Blackout range with an all new Whiteout Collection
inspired by the 1978 New York City Blizzard. According to the UK-based soccer specialists:

So there were some very interesting results around Europe this weekend with the major stories
making the headlines being Inter's 4-0 loss to Roma in the Serie A and Chelsea's surprising 3-3
draw at home with United.
Coming off the back of 3 poor results, Inter desperately needed a win to ensure they broke
into the top 4 spot.
So yesterday was a day without Wikipedia.
How did we all cope?
Maybe by using the various workarounds that let you bypass Wiki's self-imposed protest blackout. Or
whiling away the hours following STV's #fitbawiki chat on Twitter.
Or you could have gone old school and picked up a book.
There was no blood, no bruise, not even a bump. Not a sprain, no strain, no fracture and no
break. Yet the injury was scarier than the time I had managed to get a rusty fishing hook nearly
through my right thumb. Two weeks later, the symptoms have finally subsided, but the grim
possibilities of future problems remain.
After a very impressive win on the road at Seattle, the Philadelphia Union (11-7-14) will play
their last home game of the season against the almost always struggling Toronto FC (6-13-13). With
a win or a draw today, the Union would clinch a playoff spot. Should the Union lose, then a New
York Red Bulls loss to Sporting Kansas City would also clinch a playoff spot for the Union.
As I type this post, I am watching the Red Bulls self destruct on Major League Soccer's
excellent MatchDay Live service. Yet at the same time, the game is blacked out on DirectKick, the
league's television game package. What makes the blackout mysterious, is the unavailability of
MSG Network (the RSN that carries the Red Bulls) in the Hartford area.

The Union may not have won last Saturday, but the Union family did. Before the game against
Portland, Philadelphia Union supporters gathered for a charity tailgate in support of Miles4MJ.

By Puck Ladies and Gentlemen, Once again, it's Saturday in America. And it is gameday in
Gainesville, so we all know I'll be well on my way to blackout shortly. Since we last got together
our beloved USMNT has lost two consecutive matches 1-0 to the likes of Costa Rica and Belgium. The

The current sweltering weather conditions in New York City remind me a lot of 1977, especially
the blackout of '77 that sent the city into terror and mass hysteria. The looting, rioting and
threat of the Son of Sam (David Berkowitz) created a terrifying time for anyone living in the
city.
Blackball the KemsmosIn what must be the most shameless piece of sport-fashion marketing, the
Kemsley-Anomaly-Umbro partnership brings us their latest in the Cosmos collection, a celebration of
the ... of the ... yes, it's true, of the '77 blackout. The Son of Sam sweatshirt will surely soon
be available at your local soccer ship.
On July 13, Brazilian Carlos Alberto Torres arrived in New York City in the midst of a blackout.
Not just any blackout, but the infamous 1977 blackout that was marked by extreme violence and
looting in the Big Apple. Quite the warm welcome for Pele's former teammate at Santos FC, a member
of the 1970 World Cup winning side, and widely regarded as one of the games best defenders.
Commemorating the New York city blackout of July 1977, Umbro have created a special edition range
of products for the New York Cosmos.

As we've seen before here on Pies, Umbro's hook-up with the soon-to-be-revived New York Cosmos
has produced some pretty natty garb to date, so you'll be glad to know that their new 'Blackout'
collection is ploughing a similar furrow.
The limited edition Blackout line has been designed to commemorate the day that Brazilian legend
Carlos Alberto signed with the Cosmos back on July 13th, 1977, which also happened to be the day of
the infamous New York City blackout.
Because I do not live on the West Coast and have a real job with a ridiculous commute, I rarely can
stay awake for late games on work nights. Lame I know, but that's life. Fortunately in our modern
times, the internet allows for the instant gratification of match highlights and so I was able to
catch up on last night's wild match in Portland.
After having the week off last week to accommodate Real Salt Lake in the CONCACAF Champions
League, the 3rd place Philadelphia Union (3-1-1) will take to PPL Park to face the last place San
Jose Earthquakes (1-3-2) of the Western Conference.

I recently purchased an iPad2 and one of the apps I was excited to get my hands on was the MLS
app. The features I had read about, especially the matchday live streaming, were things I had been
looking forward to using during the season to keep me up to date on the day to day of the league.
Over the past week, I've been using the app to get me ready for the upcoming season.
Apologies for the lateness of the match reaction. I was beholden to Match Day Live for this one,
and the ridiculous "local blackout" applied (sigh). In any case, I do have a few thoughts, but I
won't belabor any points. Quick and dirty time. Ready?
* Stars of the Show - Sure, Davies gets all the plaudits in the world for a brace on his
return, but for my money it was Pontius and Wolff (WTF?

Sir Alex Ferguson has explained today why he refused to speak to the press after Manchester
United's defeat at Anfield.
"The papers keep on and on about it because Manchester United are involved, and they failed
to get the FA Compliance Unit to pick up on the Wayne Rooney incident in the Wigan game," said
Ferguson.
