FIFA World Cup With the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa only one month away, 11 countries are
looking further ahead to hosting the 2018 or 2022 events. Europe is expected to win the 2018
hosting rights with England, Russia, Spain/Portugal and Holland/Belgium in the running. The USA and
Australia are bidding for 2018 but also join Qatar, South Korea and Japan for 2022.
The English Football League Cup or Carling Cup begins the semifinal round this week with
Blackburn Rovers v Aston Villa and the Manchester derby of City v United. The tournament is a
chance for Villa, Blackburn, and City to get a trophy while United will be the overall favorites.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 and Wednesday, January 6, 2010.
Due to bad weather, both of the English Carling Cup Semifinals have been postponed. The matches
included Manchester City v Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers v Aston Villa. The make up dates
for the Manchester derby match have been decided and will be January 19th and January 27th. For the
Blackburn v Aston Villa match, the make-up date will be announced Wednesday morning.
Real Madrid's pre-season fixture with the Malaysian national team expected to be conformed for 21
August. As this is in the middle of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the game will likely be
played at 10 pm. Malaysia is also to play a friendly match on 17 July against the Welsh club
Cardiff City which plays in the English Championship.
Premiership sides Chelsea, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers will spend part of the 2011 summer
training and competing in Hong Kong as the three clubs, along with the champion of the HK First
Division League, will battle in a four-team tournament for the Asia Trophy.
Asia has proved fertile training grounds for clubs as they prepare for upcoming Premiership seasons
and the these three will ready for the 2011-2012 Premier League Season in Hong Kong.
