Right now 28-year-old midfielder Chris James is starring for Tampere United in the
Finnish Veikkausliiga. So far this season, James has notched five goals in 14 appearances. The
former Fulham player actually played in over 30 matches for the various English youth squads, but
decided to play his senior international soccer for the country of his birth with the New Zealand
All Whites.
Soccer City FC will soon be releasing a list of the Best XI of the Year comprised of players from
outside of the Big 4 clubs.
Feel free to post comments and suggestions on who deserves to make the squad.
I have a feeling we may see Ashley Young on this list...
David James?
English Premier League member Blackburn Rovers F.C. announced their first friendly for their
upcoming 2008 summer preseason tour. The club will travel to the Molineux Stadium to take on
Coca-Cola Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. on August 2nd at 3:00 P.M.
Players of note for the Wanderers include:
* Sylvan Ebanks-Blake: 22 year-old English forward who scored 12 goals in 20
league appearances.
It now appears that Manchester City will bring in Mark Hughes for the 2008-2009 Premiership
campaign.
City have landed Hughes and his back room staff. Reports claim that 5 million
pounds in compensation was reached between the two clubs.
At Blackburn's official site a recent statement reads, "Blackburn Rovers can confirm they
have reached an agreement with Manchester City on compensation terms for Mark Hughes.
Following the squad announcement of the England national team for their friendly encounter with
Czech Republic, the stunning re-emergence of Emile Heskey into the international setup is a
decision which has to be looked at with considerable surprise. The Wigan striker has a worthy 45
caps to his name and it is clear that Capello is one of Heskey's leading supporters, but is it not
time to give others a chance rather than reverting back to old tactics?
It now looks certain that both Samba star Elano and English U-21 defender
Nedum Onuoha will exit this January.
Paris Saint-Germain, Fulham, and Blackburn have all been linked with Onuoha; the 22-year-old
defender could net City as much as £4m.
Elano recently exchanged words with boss Mark Hughes after the UEFA Cup match
against Racing Santander.
Soccer City FC polled contributors, readers, and forum members to gather as much information as
possible in naming the Premiership Best XI of 2007-2008. The list is made up of players from
outside of the Big 4 Clubs. The 4-4-2 format is used for the Best XI squad.
Goalkeeper: David James (Portsmouth)
James reinvented himself this year.
Manchester City striker Valeri Bojinov has been cursed with yet another horrific injury that will
rule him out for the next six months. The Bulgarian international has only just recovered from
damaging his knee ligaments 12 months ago and he was set to start the first match on the
Premiership's opening round of matches.
