Morning all. Throughout January Soccerlens is going to be bringing you a daily round-up
of the morning's various goings-on. Be it juicy morsels of spurious transfer gossip or real, actual
bona fide news, rest assured, we'll have it covered.
Here's this morning's batch.
Mexes-matosis.
The January 2011 transfer window is about to open. Will Premier League clubs be spending money
this time around? In January 2009 Premier League teams spent a record £178 MILLION in that
transfer window. Last January spending was much lower with the vast majority of moves on the final
day of the January transfer window being loan deals as clubs did not have the capital to invest in
new players.

Rovers at Ewood Park.

This Gerrard penalty miss against Blackburn would probably have not made a big difference to the
eventual result ( 3-1 to Blackburn), but it would certainly have set up a tense last few minutes
for the home side. Gerrard's missed penalty vs Blackburn came just minutes after he had pulled one
back for Liverpool.
This Steven Gerrard red card was received by the Liverpool skipper for a reckless challenge on
Michael Carrick during the Reds's FA Cup clash against Manchester United. Game:- Manchester United

Red with a honeycomb centre. Like TFC's 2010 defence! The stories out of TFC training camp's first day started leaking before the ink was dry on the
medical needles. At least that's my understanding of needles. Might explain my scurvy. Anyhoo...
with roster spots galore and a plane warming up on the tarmac for a flight to Turkey, names have
begun to pop up on the potential passenger list aboard

You could frame it. If you wanted a short, pithy representation of all that has been wrong with
football finance in 2010, you could do no better than quote a Plymouth Argyle fan
known as "Sensible Surfer" on the BBC Football website over the Christmas period. "Ridsdale set to
take control.
History is on Arsenal's side for the encounter against Manchester City. Including the League
Cup, City have lost 21 of their last 28 visits to Arsenal, failing to score in 18 of those
games.
I haven't checked the details but I think West Brom had a similar record. Add the wealth Citeh
have been able to splash out and it's not difficult to see history will have little bearing on the
outcome of this particular match.
The English Premier League takes a weekend off as English football shifts its focus to the FA
Cup, the third round of which happens this weekend. We start today's show, the second half of a
discussion we had on Wednesday, by looking toward this weekend, specifically Liverpool's trip to
Manchester United, though that quickly descended into discussion of Liverpool and how important
Sunday's result will be to Roy Hodgson's job and the club.
James Dean..he is not!
Diouf is on a streak. Unfortunately, it's with his mouth and not his feet. The player who
isn't known for sugar coating his feelings has once again let his antics take center stage instead
of his talent. The Senegalese player, who has yet to score in the EPL this season for Blackburn,
once again courted controversy with his reaction to QPR's Jamie Mackie.
The latest episode of Special 1 TV has been released and it features an exclusive interview with
King Kenny.
The usual cast of characters are featured on the show as well as some new debutants including
Diego Maradona, the Blackburn Rovers owners and Harry Redknapp.
Be champions!

Right, they're long-time friends, best of pals, etcetera and so forth. I suppose I can
understand that, intellectually. But when the fans hate you and the owners have publicly talked
about replacing you, is it really a good idea to have a public make-out session with the hated
rival from down the road when you both find yourselves at the Wigan v.

Liverpool's away day woes continued as they were beaten 3-1 by Blackburn Rovers...
The last ounce of truth to this can easily be eradicated. All Mourinho has to do is
watch Glen Johnson against Blackburn...defensively he was woeful.
Going forward the England International is threat, his delivery is decent and he has a good eye
for goal he has scored an impressive 3 goals per season, for the past two seasons.
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean accepts that Ronaldinho transfer is unlikely. The
headlines said it all as the football Gods opened up another period of intrigue and speculation
that is commonly referred to as the January transfer window.
Alas, this was no ordinary story.
Diouf's is up to his usual antics again. If he's not strutting the streets of Manchester
pretending to be 50 cent, then he's on the football pitch pretending to be a good
footballer...
"For many years I have thought he was the gutter type I was going to call him a sewer rat but that
might be insulting to sewer rats.
LONDON, England Giant-killers Stevenage have been rewarded with a home tie against Reading in the
fourth round of the FA Cup. Graham Westley's Stevenage take on Championship Reading looking for a

Furious Q.P.R boss Neil Warnock's sewer rat jibe at Blackburn Striker El-Hadji
Diouf after the striker abused Q.P.R player Jamie Mackie while he lay in the turf
with a double leg break seem's just about right in our estimations of the striker.
After all this is the same striker who spat at a Celtic supporter while playing
for Liverpool in 2003, and the same player who spat at Portsmouth's Arjan de Zeeuw in
2004.
Now that the transfer window is open, lots of managers are looking to strengthen their squads.
Managers like Everton's David Moyes seem typical; he's looking to sign a striker, having repeatedly
bemoaned his team's lack of ability to finish in front of goal, most recently after the away draw
at West Ham.
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn manager Steve
Kean is still hopeful of making a few signings this transfer window and will be having a
meeting with the club's owner to discuss their possibilities. Kean said,
"I will go in and out for a meeting in India and then back Tuesday morning .
DOHA, Qatar Mile Jedinak's first-half goal against Bahrain at Al Sadd Stadium was enough to send
Australia through to the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup. The Genclerbirligi midfielder scored his
second goal in as many games to ensure the Socceroos finish top of Group C and go through to the
last eight unbeaten following [.

Blackburn, in their relentless search for a 'marquee' signing, have reportedly been offered the
services of Boca Juniors stalwart (and light of legendary Gol TV commentator Ray Hudson's
life) Juan Roman Riquelme on the cheap.
Riquelme's agent Barry McIntosh (you can almost smell the pinstripes) told the Lancashire
Telegraph:
"I have spoken with (middle man) Jerome Anderson, who is doing a lot of work for Blackburn
Rovers, about a deal for Riquelme and it is being thought about.

Blackburn vs West Brom January 23, 2011- Ewood Park Final score:- Blackburn 2-0 West Brom ( Tamas
own goal, Junior Hoilett) West Brom slump to yet another defeat on the road as Blackburn defeat
them 2-0 thanks to an own goal from Gabriel Tamas and a stunning Junior Hoilett goal. Blackburn vs

SAM Allardyce must be a bit miffed. He's probably sat at home watching Jeremy Kyle with his
already sour face looking even more down in the dumps.
You can imagine his mood after being told he'd lost his job as Blackburn Rovers manager. Dark to
say the least.
‘Come on everyone, we've been sacked,' he may have said to his backroom staff.
Blackpool vs Manchester United Bloomfield Road, Blackpool- January 25, 2011 Final score:- Blackpool
2-3 Manchester United ( Cathcart,Campbell/ Berbatov*2, Hernandez) A brilliant second half comeback
from Manchester United allows the Red Devils to beat Blackpool 3-2 at Bloomfield Road after
trailing 2-0 at the lemon break.

Aston Villa goal helps Gerard Houllier's charges to beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in their 10/11 FA Cup
fourth round clash.

recently bought the Lancashire club.
Ronaldinho has been given permission by Milan to find a new club and was widely believed to be
heading back to Brazil to play for Gremio.
