The Premiership woke up this morning to a lot of excitement. Everton fans were celebrating breaking
their transfer record, West Ham fans were incredulous that they had sold half their defence without
replacing them, Liverpool fans were "overjoyed" at signing two foreign 18 year olds to
add to their increasing collection of foreign 18 year olds, [.
Obviously the true bargains won't be known for some time, but there were a few transfers which
caught the eye before the participants had even put on their new shirt. Eliminating loans made sure
somebody has actually bought up the entire contract this summer, and everyone of these guys
happened to come in at under [.
Sadly, we could've turned this thing into an all-Prem list, but did our best to look elsewhere.
Didn't turn out so well. The problem is so many sums paid in the Premiership dwarf that of those in
other leagues - Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, etc. - that it can make their normally [...]
There's really only a couple (well, one to be specific) deal that many people followed on transfer
deadline day, but while many looked to see if Dimitar Berbatov would sign for Manchester United and
who Manchester City would nab with their newly-acquired mega-riches, many watched the window to see
if someone would come through the [.
I have never been a fan of Robin Van Persie's 13-year-old boy flicked fringe, but this season it
seems to have got bigger and developed a life of its own. The flick is getting itself into angles
that my protractor can't reach. Look at him against Blackburn, for instance. The flick is actually
going backwards, [.
Following Alan Curbishley's departure from West Ham yesterday, his transfer policy at the club has
come under increased scrutiny. Soccerlens has rounded up Curbishley's worst forays into the
transfer market. 1. Freddie Ljungberg from Arsenal Curbishley should have known that sneaky Arsene
Wenger only sells his stars when they are past it.
After hundreds (at least) of news bits over the last few months, we're finally almost at the end of
the summer transfer window. There's a lot yet to happen on the final day of the window, but I'm
here to get you caught up on all of the latest signings and speculation. England So, [...]
Theo Walcott may be rested for Arsenal's game against Blackburn despite his heroics for England in
mid-week. The 19-year-old scored a superlative hat-trick against Croatia before being substituted
late on for David Beckham, but Wenger insists he would be wrong to push the youngster to play a
third game in a week.
English Premier League FULHAM 0 BLACKBURN 1 In what has surely been a nightmare season so far for
the Texan, Dempsey was left on the bench for Fulham's 1-0 loss to Blackburn this morning.
Matt Derbyshire made the difference in the 84th minute after coming on for Treacy, shooting low and
hard past Mark Schwarzer.
Landon Donovan won MLS Player of the Week for his part in LA Galaxy's 5-2 win over DC United this
past weekend. With a nice hat-trick (three good goals) and a beaut of an assist (around the 4:45
mark) there's little doubt he deserved it. And there's a growing whisper that maybe the time is
[...]
Saturday Arsenal v Hull City, 17:30 Can Hull's excellent run keep going. Against Arsenal? Away? No,
it can't. Prediction: 2-1 to Arsenal. Not an easy win for the Gunners, but a win nonetheless. Bonus
Prediction: DNA tests confirm Hull's 39 year old striker Dean Windass as the father of Jack
Wilshere, Carlos Vela and Kieran Gibbs.
No man is an island, with the possible exception of Frank Lampard. We all crave companionship, but
I crossed the line in my pursuit of Helen Chamberlain. I sneaked in to the Soccer AM studios and
took a few unauthorised photos to publish on my website. I've now been charged with intent to
distribute [.
All eyes were on midweek international hero Theo Walcott at Ewood Park today, but it was Emmanuel
Adebayor - who had a slightly less glorious international week - with the hat-trick as Arsenal beat
Blackburn 4-0. Walcott semi-unexpectedly started the game and set up Arsenal's first with a great
run and through ball for Robin van [.

Crikey, as we say in England. The reasons why Robinho was willing to relocate to Manchester
suddenly become clear:
The 24-year-old has agreed a four-year contract that makes him the highest-paid
footballer in the history of the game, with a weekly salary of £160,000.
For those of you not used to the quaint habit that British newspapers have of expressing
multi-million pound salaries in a working-class "weekly wage" fashion, let's put it this
way: that amounts to about $15 million a year.

What is it about Carlos Tevez that he loses his cool when he puts on the Argentina jersey? He was
sent off today in the match against Paraguay for the second time in 3 matches as the match ended in
a 1-1 draw. This is a great result for Paraguay as they continue to lead the South American
qualifying group and got a vital result in Buenos Aires.
Gerry takes a break from his weekly drudgery of crime-fighting and orphan-rescuing to give you the
latest on English football and your best bet for the weekend. In many ways I'm like a dwarf - I

Liverpool ended their miserable run against Manchester United after an odd own-goal from Wes Brown
and a late score from sub Ryan Babel gave them a 2-1 victory at Anfield. Elsewhere, Robinho scored
on his Citey debut but Chelsea rallied to win 3-1 despite a harsh red card on John Terry. Arsenal
won 4-0 over Blackburn as Adebayor netted a hat trick, Hull heaped more misery on Newcastle, Tim
Cahill made a timely return to give Everton the win over Stoke and Fulham beat Bolton at Craven
Cottage.
I think I'm getting better at this predicting business. Last week's attempts at clairvoyance
actually yielded two correct scores (Man City 1-3 Chelsea and Portsmouth 2-1 Middlesbrough). But I
also predicted that Liverpool vs Man Utd would be goalless only for Carlos Tevez to make a liar out
of me within three minutes.

First batch of match reviews from the past weekend. The final batch will be up tomorrow morning.
Note there won't be a second full match review as I was unable to see Sunderland v Manchester City
in full.
Everton v Portsmouth: Jermain Defoe's two goals and assist see Portsmouth go away and get an
emphatic 3-0 victory at Goodison Park.
Pick up a newspaper today and the chances are the back pages are filled with talk of Robinho,
Berbatov and the many other players moving to new clubs before the Premier League transfer window
closed last night.
Yet for all the players grabbing the headlines and milking the spotlight, there are those that have
been shown the door to make way for them in recent weeks.
Few noticed last week when Juande Ramos called for a shortening of the transfer window, but the
nuclear fallout from Monday's race to the finish seems to support his argument. Prior to Monday,
Robinho had been settling in nicely at for another season at Real Madrid, Kevin Keegan was sorting
out his first proper [.
Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz should be fit to face Arsenal in the Premier League on September
13 after declaring himself available for Paraguay. Paraguay take on Argentina in a crucial World
Cup qualifier on Saturday but Santa Cruz had been a doubt because of the Achilles problem that
forced him to limp out of the [.
2007/8 Review
Everton enjoyed another very good season under the stewardship of David Moyes, flirting with
Champions League qualification for much of the campaign before finishing fifth. This was despite
Everton allowing opponents more attempts on goal than they themselves created. The Toffees were
able to overcome this imbalance thanks to some very sharp finishing from their strikers, dead ball
prowess, and excellent goalkeeping from American Tim Howard.
With one month of Premiership action out of the way, Premiership Talk reviews all twenty teams and
grades them based on their early season performances. Arsenal The title hopefuls from London have
had an indifferent start to the season. An opening day narrow victory against West Bromwich Albion
didn't convince too many fans, and that performance was [.

Before I begin writing my predictions for this weekend, I would invite everyone into the EPL Talk
Chat this weekend. Staring from 7:30 am Eastern/12:30 pm UK on Saturday and from 8:20 am

Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Eboue could miss Wednesday's Champions League group stage match at Dinamo
Kiev after sustaining seperate injuries during this afternoons 4-0 rout against Blackburn. Both
players were victim to kicks from Rovers' players with the latter winning a penalty after being
brought down in the box by Stephen Warnock.
A game we could have won. For one thing we had several good chances to do so; for another
Blackburn were fortunate to have eleven men on the field after several brutal assaults on Fulham
players in the first half. Good start: Simon Davies' cross was diverted towards goal by Andy
Johnson, only for Paul Robinson [.
Some good news over the weekend for Newcastle fans was that Habib Beye will return to full training
today. Habib Beye - may be ready for Blackburn on Saturday Beye visited a specialist in London last
week about his Achilles injury, and was given the go ahead to start training again today, but the
Carling Cup tie [.
Tottenham remain bottom of the Premier League after yet another defeat. This time they have been
beaten by Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth to leave them with just two points from a possible eighteen,
leaving manager Juande Ramos under severe pressure at the helm.
It was two former Spurs strikers that bagged all three points for Pompey.
In full-flight Arsenal have played some of the best football we have seen so far this season - up
there with Chelsea at least. The likes of Blackburn and Newcastle have come up against a Gunners
side who look absolutely irresistable in attack. And yet their good work so far has already come
unstuck twice [.
1. The rules don't apply if you're a billionaire. Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was spotted downing a
pint at the Emirates while his team lost 3-0 to Arsenal. Slight problem: it's illegal to drink
within sight of the pitch in the Premier League. Ashley might think that drinking in the stands
makes him more like one [.
