Whereas you couldn't argue with Newcastle's form during their 5-1 drubbing of local
rivals Sunderland last weekend, Black Cats manager Steve Bruce has a quibble with
the form they showed after the final whistle had sounded.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly considering making a move for Sunderland's in form marksman
Darren Bent.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has confirmed his club's interest in Manchester City goalkeeper
Joe Hart. The English goalie spent last season out on loan, and with Shay Given still standing in
his way at the City of Manchester Stadium it doesn't appear he'll get significant playing time this
season.
LONDON, England — Heavy snow and freezing temperatures wreaked havoc with the Premier League on
Saturday, all but wiping out the fixture list and putting the title race on ice. Arsenal were
denied the chance to regain top spot after their match against Stoke at the Emirates was one of
four matches to be called [.
Despite recent developments indicating that negotiations had broken down, The Mirror reports that
Liverpool are close to agreeing a tax-thrifty deal for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce recently vented his spleen over the rumours surrounding Jones,
insisting that it was "disrespectful" to suggest that he would send his star striker out on loan.

And lo, there was silence in the valley. Here's the apres-deadline round up...
Easily the highest profile transfer of the day (Sky Sports News nigh-on creamed themselves) saw
Tottenham's Robbie Keane join Celtic on a six month loan deal.
Liverpool will be hoping for a repeat of their latest outing as they travel to Iberia this Thursday
to take on Benfica in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.
The Reds answered their many critics as they blitzed a shell-shocked Sunderland on their way to an
easy 3-0 win on Sunday which keeps them in the hunt for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The star of the first "Great Escape", Carlos Tevez have declared that he wants to play for West Ham
once again as he claimed there were unfinished business. That's just fantastic, his brand of
all-action football is something that we have missed this season especially. He is playing well
also, seeing that he has now scored six goals in his last three starts.

Manchester City are apparently showing an interest in Sunderland striker Darren Bent. Roberto
Mancini is apparently not too keen on the attacking options he inherited when he took over from
Mark Hughes and the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy are all in
danger of being shipped out as the Italian looks to make the Eastlands squad better resemble a
collection of players he himself purchased.
I bet Bruce would rather have signed the other guy in the picture Black Cats land Riveros
Sunderland have agreed a deal to bring midfielder Cristian Riveros to the Stadium of Light. Steve
Bruce has made his first summer signing soon after the end of the Premier League season by bringing
the Paraguay international to Wearside.
Opening in the 1990's the Stadium of Light is considered one of the nicest stadiums in all of
the Premier League. Seating around 49,000 seats the home of Sunderland is the third largest
stadium in the Premier League regarding full seating capacity. When a maximum capacity is present
well over 48,000 fans have a seat for the big game.

Sunderland in Estudiantes talks for star fullback Angeleri
Sunderland are in talks with Estudiantes for star fullback Marcos Angeleri.
The People says Black Cats boss Steve Bruce wants to strike a £4million deal with Angeleri's
club Estudiantes.
Bruce hopes to close the Angeleri move this week after his side were knocked out of the
prestigious Copa Libertadores – clearing the way for his quick exit.

Veteran centre-back Sol Campbell is in talks with Sunderland after failing to
agree an extension to his short-term contract at Arsenal, whom he joined during the second-half of
last season.
The 35-year-old defender is currently a free-agent and has already held talks with Celtic over a
possible move north of the border, but it would appear that Black Cats manager Steve
Bruce is prepared to gamble on giving the former England international one last Premier
League swansong.

Joe Cole (AM) will still be missing matches for Liverpool. This will be his
second of three he'll miss following his red card challenge on Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny during
the opening round of fixtures. The Reds are desperate to get a positive result against
West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, but they've looked much like the side that were rather
underwhelming last season when Cole has been missing.

Venue : Stadium of Light, Sunderland
This English Premier League fixture will see Sunderland taking on Man City at the Stadium of
Light on Sunday 29th August 2010, kick-off set for 3:00 PM.
Most ties this week look fairly underwhelming on paper next to the classic Manchester United
v. Liverpool match. But don't let that fool you into thinking that the Stoke City v. West Ham
United match is going to be a massive sleeper. Other matches could very well end in tear-jerking
boredom, while sum could very well experience an unforeseen upset presented to the football
world.
Wenger sees the afternoon crumble against West Brom
The plan was clear. To maximize points in the easier stretch of games before the big showdown
with Chelsea. The West Brom match was a clear opportunity to win three points. An golden
opportunity for the Gunners to vault to the top of the table following Chelsea's loss against Man
City.
After seasons of mid-table mediocrity, Sunderland suddenly look like a team capable of reaching
for the heights of Europe. Results at Anfield, the Emirates and White Hart Lane last night, as well
as their 0-0 draw to Manchester United and the 1-0 victory over City at home, suggest that Steve
Bruce's men are able to mix it with the big boys in the Premier League for the first time since
their two consecutive seventh place finishes in 2000 and 2001.
Chelsea 0-3 Sunderland ( Nedum Onuoha, Asamoah Gyan, Danny Welbeck) Sunderland claimed their first
victory at Stamford Bridge in over nine years with a stunning 3-0 over reigning champions Chelsea
on Sunday, November 14, 2010. The Black Cats were underdogs going into this game and few expected
them to get any points from this fixture given their [.
I am worried for my team. Chelsea were ripped to pieces as Sunderland produced the performance
of their season, and credit must go to the Black Cats because they were irresistible. But how do
you defend a title with no defence?
While Branislav Ivanovic is a rampaging thoroughbred of a full-back, he is far nervier and
uncertain, almost clumsy, when moved to the centre.
Four of the top five battle it out with each other this week while Man City travel to bottom of
the table West Ham. Arsenal could end gameweek 17 in fourth position, having started it Top of the
table. Chances are it will be as you were. It has been such an unpredictable season that this has
to be the weekend where the top five match each other and pick up a point a piece.
Sunderland have been a bit of a bete noire for Fulham at the Cottage in recent years. A 3-1 loss
in 2008 was the moment I gave up hope ahead of the miracle of the Great Escape. The following
season a 0-0 draw was one of the worst performances seen under Roy. Today was no classic but I
found it an engaging game with moments of great effort and endeavour indispersed with moments of
comedic failure.
After the surprisingly impressive first half of the season Sunderland have enjoyed, the club may be
revaluating their goals for this term. Steve Bruce's side have stormed to sixth place in the league
and now face the very real possibility of European football coming to the Stadium of Light next
season.
Steve Bruce's Black Cats eased past Barrow at the Stadium of Light with Sunderland going three
nil up inside the first hour and then taking their feet off the pedal.

Rafa Benitez plans to land hitman Kenwyne Jones in a stunning swap with Ryan Babel.
The Liverpool chief hopes to agree a deal with Sunderland as he desperately needs cover for crocked
hotshot Fernando Torres.
And it will see out-of-favour Dutchman Babel head for the Stadium of Light.
Carlo Ancelotti watched on as his Chelsea side took apart Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. The
Blues looked imperious as they raced into a four nil half time lead. They were a constant threat to
the Black Cats goal and the west London side could have scored ten but for some superb saves from
Marton Fulop.
Things go from bad to worse to awful for Anfield boss Rafa Benitez, but he still has time to
plan a Premier League swap deal apparently.

Liverpool are poised to seal a loan deal to bring Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones to
Anfield, according to the Daily Mail.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez reportedly may even tie up the deal today, in order to make Jones
available for Liverpool's clash with Tottenham at Anfield on Wednesday.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce insists he has no intention of sanctioning a swap deal involving
Kenwyne Jones and Liverpool's Ryan Babel.
Bruce is adamant the Black Cats will not be offloading key men during the January transfer window,
despite speculation to the contrary.
He claims reports regarding the future of Jones, who is believed to be a target for a number of
Premier League clubs, are wide of the mark.
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres believes that manager Rafael Benitez should bring in either David
Villa or David Silva from Valencia to partner him in the attacking third of the pitch.
After failing to land Sunderland hitman Kenwyne Jones on loan following Ryan Babel's decision not
to move the other way, the Kop boss is believed to be keen to add to his strike force -
particularly given the fact that Torres is currently sidelined following surgery on a cartilage
injury - by offering the Black Cats £12 million for the Trinidad & Tobago international.
Liverpool's hopes of signing Kenwyne Jones were effectively dead today after Sunderland refused any
attempt to do business.
As was reported in later editions of last night's ECHO, the Reds spent the weekend trying to thrash
out a deal to bring the Trinidad & Tobago international to Anfield on loan until the end of the
season and were hopeful of doing so.
Liverpool FC co-owner George Gillett believes Rafa Benitez is one of the top five managers in the
world and that this season's disappointing results are just a "blip".
The club have endured a difficult campaign so far and have fallen well off the pace in the Barclays
Premier League, compounded by early exits from the Champions League and FA Cup.

Hands up anyone who wants to leave?
Sunderland have confirmed their capture of Sheffield United defender Matthew
Kilgallon last night for an undisclosed fee (believed to be in the £2 million region).
The 26 year old has joined The Black Cats on a three-and-a-half year contract after snubbing
interest from Burnley and Everton.
Furious Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has challenged Liverpool counterpart Rafael Benitez to put up
or shut up over his pursuit of Kenwyne Jones.
The 49-year-old has grown exasperated recently with repeated speculation on Merseyside that he will
allow the Trinidad and Tobago international to join the struggling Reds on loan before completing a
permanent move during the summer.
The League ... our bread and butter
Despite having pulled the Black Cats' tails seven times last Saturday, Chelsea go into the weekend
in 2nd place with the Arse having played a game more leading the pace. To be fair, since Chelsea
murdered Arsenal at the Emirates, Arsehole Whingers boys have been on an impressive run of form
recently, which makes the meeting between both sides at the Bridge on February 7th a mouthwatering
prospect.
