Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has written off his sides chances of silverware next
season by insisting that the Gunners have failed to learn from their past mistakes.
Arsene Wenger's men were serious title contenders for much of the season and reached the Carling
Cup final at Wembley, however, after an atypical collapse to the season, the Gunners ended the
season potless thus failing to end their six year trophy drought.

Sunday, Sunday, the red tops are full of more rumours and transfer stories, so much
contradiction it makes you want to scream.
The People are reporting that Samir Nasri is not after £110K a week as previously reported but
a staggering £160K a week. Well Samir if this is the case then it will be thanks for the
memories but good-bye.

While an English Premier League club during the 2010/11 season, Birmingham City FC got their first
major trophy in 48 years when it beat Arsenal to win the Carling Cup. However, poor league results
saw the team relegated to the English Football League Championship on the last day of the season.

Breaking this weekend was the surprising news that 2010 MLS MVP candidate Edson Buddle was
poised to make his long-discussed move overseas. What made it surprising was that the move was
not to Birmingham City, which is where he had long been rumored to go, but to FC Ingolstadt, a
Bundesliga 2 club that is currently in danger of being relegated to the third German soccer
division.
This is the second in InTheStands' Transfermation series exploring the potential
summer ahead for all Premiership clubs involved....this addition: Aston Villa
Where they stand:
Well, well, well, if I was an Aston Villa fan I would be sceptical – looking down the barrel
at another mid-table finish.
Liverpool is to offer both Sotirios Kyrgiakos and David Ngog to Bolton Wanderers in exchange for
their defender Gary Cahill - according to Footybunker.
The Merseyside club value Ngog at £4.5m, which Bolton boss Owen Coyle is reluctant to pay
outright, but the swap deal could prove more enticing.
Morning all. Throughout January Soccerlens are going to be bringing you a daily
round-up of the morning's various goings-on. Be it juicy morsels of spurious transfer gossip or
real, actual bona fide news, rest assured, we'll have it covered.
Here's this morning's batch.
Dzeko deal reaches terminal velocity.
When Mark Hughes walked out on the Fulham manager's job the popular narrative still holds that
he did so the full expectation of being offered the managerial position at Aston Villa it was, as
has become abundantly clear since, as massive miscalculation. There were noises at the time that
Villa called off talks with Hughes over the way that his departure from Craven Cottage was
handled.
Like a Hammer to the groin West Ham forward Victor Obinna saw red during last night's Carling Leg
semi-final first-leg victory over Birmingham City. The Nigerian petulantly flicked his foot up
behind him to give Sebastian Larsson a swift kick to the crown jewels. Fortunately for the loanee,
his side went on to win the [.
It's been the busiest January transfer window I can remember testimony to our lack of activity
in the summer and position in the table at the turn of the year so I thought it worth putting a
summary together on a day that will inevitably be dominated by Fernando Torres
rumours and counter-rumours.

We enter the transfer window with two of our players entering the last 12 months of their
contracts, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy.
Arsenal fans are fretting over what is to become of Nasri. The media has gone mad on linking
him to Manchester United, even to the extent that they will offer us £8M for the playmaker.
Arsene Wenger has already moved to replace Cesc Fabregas with Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder
Jadson coming to Arsenal, according to reports. We are on the verge of losing Cesc to Barcelona in
a deal worth up to £36million, and it seems AW has wasted no time in trying to secure a
replacement.

After a rather quiet offseason in terms of player moves, the New York Red Bulls are reportedly
close to making a big splash in the transfer market.
According to reports out of the Netherlands, the club has a two-year offer on the table to Ajax
midfielder and Finland international Teemu Tainio (pictured above, left), who has fallen out of
favor at the club and can be had on a free transfer.
Arsenal centre forward Robin Van Persie has produced a string of consistent and
impressive goal scoring displays this season, something which have been previously been missing
from his game.
When the Dutchman arrived from Feyenoord in a £2.75 million move he was originally a left sided
midfielder.
Swedish International Sebastian Larsson has snubbed former club Arsenal to
re-unite with Steve Bruce who brought him to Birmingham 2006. Larsson will move to Sunderland on a
free transfer following his contract expiration with relegated Birmingham City.

The January 2011 transfer window is about to open. Will Premier League clubs be spending money
this time around? In January 2009 Premier League teams spent a record £178 MILLION in that
transfer window. Last January spending was much lower with the vast majority of moves on the final
day of the January transfer window being loan deals as clubs did not have the capital to invest in
new players.
Carling Cup calamity A goalkeeper would usually know he is at fault if he was beaten by a cleanly
struck Carlton Cole effort, given his form this season. When a scuffed Cole strike beats you, you
know something has gone horribly wrong. Birmingham City keeper Ben Foster picked a horrible time to
play a game [.
Botswana vs Sweden International Friendly- January 19, 2011 Cape Town, South Africa- 17.00 South
African time KO Sweden did not make it to the 2010 World Cup, but they will be playing a friendly
against Botswana in Cape Town. Nice opportunity for Sweden coach Erik Hamren to test out a few
things against Botswana.
Winning the Premier League was worth more than £15million to Manchester United while West Ham
earned a mere £756,000.
The payout that teams get is determined by where they finish in the league. An the difference of
a place or two can be worth millions of pounds. Newcastle for example finished 12th the Premier
League and received a little over £6.

The Birmingham City board have slammed the decision of walkaway coach Alex McLeish to
leave the club with a potential move to city rivals Aston Villa firmly on the cards.
Birmingham City were rocked by Sunday's news that coach Alex McLeish had decided to call time as
Blues boss with McLeish's resignation coming via email while Birmingham's acting Chairman Peter
Pannu was on business in Amsterdam.
As you may be aware I have spent the last week or so creating word maps out of 2010/2011 match
reports for all of the clubs in the Premier League. I thought I'd use this data in order to create
a team of the season. The rules are simple, the players with the most mentions during the
2010/2011 season in BBC match reports are included in the first XI.
Nicklas Bendtner had a somewhat frustrating year in the Red n' White of The Gunners' strip, but
also had some good moments in the 10-11 season. Things started gloomy for the Big Dane having been
carrying a groin injury from the previous season and playing on painkillers NB went to the World
Cup and the injury got worse from there he finally made his Arsenal injury comeback 3 months into
the season coming on a late sub against Birmingham City @ Emirates.
As a follow up to my previous blogpost related to the different nationalities represented in the
Premier League I thought it might be interesting to slice the data slightly differently. This time
I'm going to look at player nationality by club. The data in this article relates to the
nationality of players who started matches in the Premier League last season (2010/2011).

With Robbie Keane on his way to LA Galaxy THFC1882′s Rob Handworker takes a look back on the

On signing him for Tottenham from Leeds Utd in 2002, our manager the God Glenn Hoddle said
that Keane was ideally suited to Tottenham and could make White Hart Lane his "spiritual home" for
years to come.
Manchester United's kept their spot at the top of the league, no matter how many times Gary
Neville tried to give it away. Macnehster City's even on points after their win over Blackpool,
while Arsenal was convincing at a St. Andrews' Stadium that's often inhospitable to visitors.
On this edition of the EPL Talk podcast, myself, Laurence McKenna and Jesse Chula (filling in
for the infirm Kartik Krishnaiyer) and talk about the weekend that was in our favorite football
league.
Arsene Wenger has talked a lot about tackling. Invariably the discussion gets hijacked by
clueless hacks and pundits who convert that into an Arsenal V Rest of the League debate and take
pride in highlighting one or two poor tackles by Arsenal players.
According to a number of morons who have the privilege of influencing public opinion, Arsenal
are just as bad as any other team when it comes to tackling.
The English Premier League takes a weekend off as English football shifts its focus to the FA
Cup, the third round of which happens this weekend. We start today's show, the second half of a
discussion we had on Wednesday, by looking toward this weekend, specifically Liverpool's trip to
Manchester United, though that quickly descended into discussion of Liverpool and how important
Sunday's result will be to Roy Hodgson's job and the club.
Yesterday's Premier League match between Manchester City and Birmingham City was full of head
hurties and bum bruises, resulting in a 2-all tie. Vincent, honey, are you trying to tell us
something? Image: Shaun Botterill/Getty Images Europe.
The Champions League has been kind to two of our four English stalwarts this week with both
Tottenham and Arsenal picking up victories to take into their respective second legs. Being a Spurs
fan, Tuesday's win was a delight to witness and I am proud I have been around to witness
Tottenham's debut Champions League season.
