Match Of The Day Highlights
1-0 Robin Van Persie
2-0 Samir Nasri
3-0 Own Goal, Roger Johnson
Carling Cup calamity A goalkeeper would usually know he is at fault if he was beaten by a cleanly
struck Carlton Cole effort, given his form this season. When a scuffed Cole strike beats you, you
know something has gone horribly wrong. Birmingham City keeper Ben Foster picked a horrible time to
play a game [.
The Game That's a brilliant start to the new year, isn't it? With all key players back after
getting a deserved rest against Wigan, the Gunners eased past Birmingham in a game in which we had

Arsene Wenger has talked a lot about tackling. Invariably the discussion gets hijacked by
clueless hacks and pundits who convert that into an Arsenal V Rest of the League debate and take
pride in highlighting one or two poor tackles by Arsenal players.
According to a number of morons who have the privilege of influencing public opinion, Arsenal
are just as bad as any other team when it comes to tackling.
As promised in my Strike Partnership article (Although not to the most pinpoint time
schedule) here are my top ten defensive pairings in Premiership History.
10. David Wier and Alan Stubbs
Stubbs and Wier defied all odds in the 2004-05 season when relegation candidates, Everton,
qualified for the Champion's League.
Dominant. Impressive. Delightful to watch. I guess that was the most one sided game Arsenal have
played for a long, long time. Wigan aren't one of the league's high fliers but any team would have
struggled against Arsenal in such sublime form. But for some excellent saves by Al-Habsi and a
couple of missed sitters this could have been a cricket score.
If that game is anything to go by, I guess I should miss more matches! In fact, the Mrs. did
cheekily make such a suggestion but it was stared down.
More importantly, it's three big points at a very difficult venue as Arsenal continue to make
light work of really tough games. If the reverse phenomenon can be stemmed the title will certainly
end up at the Emirates.
Lee Bowyer is a nasty piece of work. The FA correctly slapped a three match ban on him for
stamping on Bacary Sagna with malicious intent to hurt as clearly shown in the picture. He was also
guilty of raking his studs down Sagna's Achilles heel on two separate occasions. It was clear as
daylight on the pitch and it should have resulted in a straight red card but the referee and
linesman either missed it or chose to ignore it.
How does he do it? Whether it's with his face, the back of his head or the stunning way Chicharito
took his goal against Stoke City, he always seems to improvise a way to find the net! It's
pure...

Berbatov becomes only the third player in Premier League history to score three hat tricks in
one season. He joins van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer.
United wasted no time as Berbatov scored a header in the first two minutes of play off a flick
from O'Shea. The man who replaced Rafael, who is out due to a suspension.
1. An away victory for Liverpool. King Kenny will be getting a sainthood soon at his rate. 2. We're
not sure he has quite repaid his £24 million just yet, but that was a pretty impressive start to
Darren Bent's career at Aston Villa. 3. It was a bad weekend for the blue half of [...]
Look Nick, getting past 2 is easy.
Before we turn our attention to yet another cup match, I want to take a little moment to reflect
on the league. Manchester United has just gone 5 points ahead of us, now that they've finally
played their match in hand. Yet, it could have so easily been just 2 points even after that
Tuesday's game at Blackpool.
First
Will return to the bench for today
off, happy new year 2011 to all of you. It's been a wonderful 2010 and long may that continue
this year. Except maybe to cut down on the disappointments and perhaps see Arsenal lifting trophies
once again. Hope I find you well even after you day/night out partying, but for our players,
there's another match to contend with today.
*boilk*
As traditional as Auld Lang Syne is the new year's day hangover. I must apologise to you all
for the worldwide rum shortage. Me and Mrs Blogs drank it all last night. I tried to ring Tom at
about 3am with a brilliant idea I had for the site but sensibly his phone was off.
After a bizarre week in which we defeated Chelsea but then could only manage a draw against Wigan
Athletic, we start the new year at Birmingham against the team which managed to beat Chelsea on ...
The Game With Manchester United getting all three points against West Bromwich Albion, it is now

Well, no real news with the starting lineup it was exactly as I predicted in my preview.
Arsenal feeling good again after getting 3 points in a must-win game to ring in 2011, and
getting the momentum going back in the right direction ahead of this week's crucial clash with
Manchester City.
And this really was an excellent result. It was 3 points, which we badly needed.

Arsene Wenger was extremely pleased with the way that his team handled the "physical challenges" of
Birmingham City to record an impressive 3-0 win at St. Andrews yesterday and the way they refused
to let Alex McLeish's side stop them playing their free-flowing football. "We were prepared today
to face the challenges, physical challenges.
Coward tackles and own goals are Johnson's forte
It was here at St Andrews that our title challenge crumbled in the 07/08 season. This was the
same setting in which the career of the prolific striker ended. Not forgetting this was also one of
the toughest away games of the season as Birmingham have only lost once in well over a season and
managed to peg Manchester United back in the recent midweek game.
Well, for a myriad of reasons, my creative juices are well and truly sapped right now. No fancy
introduction today, I'm just going to roll up my sleeves and steamroller on before my keyboard sues
me for physical abuse and questionable grammar sense.
It's The New Year.

One of the big talking points after the match was Wenger's rotation policy.

We love you Bacary!
The commentators said that the difference between the two sides was the fact that Arsenal made
it count when it mattered, as opposed to Birmingham. We have been on the receiving end of the same
for a long time and it was nice to see a change. Is this for real or is it just blip in our rather
abysmal consistently inconsistent graph?

The signing of Miguel Madera, known more commonly as Michel, has been confirmed by AEK on the
club's site. The deal is a loan deal (the player was previously part of Birmingham's squad but
failed to make many appearances from what I read) with an option to buy. I can't say I know very
much about him, but he's said some good things about the club and seems to be happy with moving to
AEK.

will be my first cup final with the Arsenal.
Birmingham have signed former Newcastle striker Obafemi
Martins on loan till the end of the season.
Martins requested the move in order to be closer to his Family in England.
Earlier this week Birmingham City pulled off a major victory to book a trip to the Carling Cup
final at Wembley, and now it appears the Blues are set to revamp their front line. The
Independent is reporting that Alex McLeish is set to clinch a deal for Nigerian international
Obafemi Martins, who has had a less than stellar time at Rubin Kazan.
