As a few The Yanks Are Coming readers are aware, our Editor In Chief and fearless, visionary leader
Daniel Seco does not have a favorite English Premier League Team. He's dabbled a bit with the boys
at Craven Cottage but never fully bought in. Same for the Billy Beane Sabermetrics club success
story that plys its trade at the Emirates.
John Henry
It's not a done deal, but there's a good chance that Liverpool fans will finally get the new
ownership they've so desperately craved. No more Tom Hicks, no more George Gillette; instead, the
Reds might just end up in the hands of NESV, the group that owns the Boston Red Sox. Consisting of
Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino and other investors, the leading figure in the group, at least in terms
of pure wealth and presumed stewardship, is John Henry.
Damien Comolli is headed back to England. Comolli, the former Arsenal scout and director of
football at Tottenham Hotspur, has been appointed by John Henry and his ownership team as director
of football strategy at Anfield. The Frenchman, who was most recently the sporting director at
Saint-Étienne, has established himself as a talent evaluator that thrives on finding undervalued
players.
I nearly wrote a review of this before I had finished it it was so good. I'm glad I didn't
though. Read on for an explanation for that somewhat weird comment...
OK the good bit. This is one of the best football books I have read. High praise indeed. It is
excellently researched, well written, engaging and above all really interesting.

I know I'm late to the party but I wanted to talk a little bit about Simon Kuper and Stefan
Szymanski's book, Soccernomics.
Billy Beane may be the general manager of Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics, but as my
discussion with the former major leaguer shows, a large part of his sporting heart lies in the
footballing world.
On this edition of the EPL Talk Podcast, Beane joins me to talk about his favorite club,
Tottenham Hotspur, his path to football fandom, and the analogs between baseball and football –
particularly as it concerns the current trends in football performance analysis.
