On my daughter's mantelpiece sits a photo of her son, then aged about 3, walking along the beach
with his father. Taken from behind, they are unaware of the camera's presence. Their stance and
gait are identical. Size and stature come from shared genes, the rest, the bit that matters, just
happens.

Before I start the first thing I should say is I don't consider this season to be a bad one.
"If you didn't know much about the Double side, or dad, and presented the story as a work of
fiction, people would say it's great but the ending's not right. It's too far-fetched."
Rob White is talking about a journalist's reaction to the Ghost of White Hart Lane, the book
about his father John he has co-written with author and screenwriter Julie Welch.
Fifty years ago, the Double was won in the Spurs way, as Bill Nicholson's team won the league
and FA Cup playing beautiful passing football. To commemorate the anniversary of this achievement,

Crouchy headed us into the Champions League, Bentley poured a tub of water over an
only-slightly-amused Harry Redknapp and thousands of Spurs fans across the nation danced the dance
of joy long into the night.
It's the Hope that kills you Above the Gates of Hell in Dante's 'Divine Comedy' are inscribed the
words 'Abandon all hope ye who enter here'. I'm paying to have it similarly placed above the Bill
Nicholson gates to White Hart Lane as that is my prediction for the nature of the coming season.
Now as all football fans and especially Tottenham fans know 'It's the hope that kills you'.

Win, lose or draw in Wigan over the weekend, this match with Tottenham was always going to be a
pivotal one. Not that matches with Spurs aren't always showcase events, but this season the derby
seems to be taking on a bit more weight with both clubs in the pursuit of Champions League football
for 2012-13.
