Greatest. Euros. Ever. A tournament that was already earning praise as one of the best ever added
another classic chapter today as Turkey advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 shootout win over
Croatia following a 1-1 draw. Turkey tied the game on the last kick of extra time just moments
after the Croats had taken the lead.
Raise your hand if you saw this match-up coming. That's what I thought. The tournament's comeback
kids, Turkey, face the surprise winners of Group B, Croatia, in Vienna for the right to meet
Germany. There were only three come-from-behind victories in the group stages and Turkey was
responsible for two of them, including their 3-2 win over the Czech Republic to clinch a
quarterfinal spot.

Croatia boss Slaven Bilic has admitted that his defence could not cope with Theo Walcott after the
youngster tore his side apart with a stunning hat-trick performance. Walcott found the corner from
difficult angles for his first two goals before timing his run to perfection, sprinting away from
his marker to slot home his third.
While Slaven Bilic may not be returning to Upton Park as manager, there are plenty of other
candidates in the frame to be Alan Curbishley's successor. The former Charlton boss walked away
earlier this week, claiming there had been a breach of trust between himself and the board. The
latter ...
Anybody think the Croatian players today looked calm on the field? Relaxed? Maybe
even...happy?
They have coach Slaven Bilic to thank. Because in addition to being a smoking rock star with a
diamond earring, Bilic has a liberal policy on "visits" by the players' wives and
girlfriends.
Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has banned visits to his Euro 2008 camp by friends and acquaintances
but he is happy to let his players enjoy an afternoon with their wives and girlfriends .
First of all, let me say what a super performance Germany gave last night. They tactically
outclassed Portugal from the get go and thoroughly deserved their win. Anyway, enough of yesterday,
now for today's big clash. Before yesterday, I'd have put my house on Croatia winning this game,
now I'm not so sure I don't [.
Slaven Bilic could be heading for the Premier League after West Ham United manager Alan Curbishley
resigned this afternoon. The Croatian manager is the bookies favourite to succeed Curbishley as the
Hammers boss and I, along with many others, would be delighted to see Bilic come to England.
Bilic spent a season at Upton Park where he made 48 appearances and is now likely to return to the
East London club but this time as manager.
Quotes from Croatia coach Slaven Bilic on the rumors linking him to the vacant managerial position
at West Ham United: It is great that I'm linked to the club from the best league in the world but
it doesn't make my work with the national team harder. In training we always make jokes. Players
tease me to [.

Slaven Bilic vows to keep coaching Croatia
The Croatian coach Slaven Bilic has said he will stay on the national team's bench beyond the
European Championship in spite of a sweet offer from Germany's Hamburger SV.
Bilic said that at a press conference putting an end to speculations caused by the Croatian FA's
inertia.
Well, that didn't help clear things up.
In a tournament where there was no clear front-runner, Germany was considered to be the best bet to
make a deep run. Before today's games, there was no clear favorite, but there looked to be a four
team group that the champion would probably come from.
Group B will come to the end tonight and every team has a chance to join Croatia in the Quarter
Finals. Austria need to beat Germany and hope that Poland do not beat Croatia by a bigger winning
margin to have a chance to qualify but they'll be up against it. Austria's last competitive win

By JAMES CLARKSlaven Bilic is a football rebel. The Croatia national-team manager sports an earring
and smokes unrepentingly -- like all Balkans inhabitants do. I am partial to him due to his time
spent at West Ham, but if you click on this link below (an article by Paul Hayward in The Daily
Mail from England), you will get a sense of why a nation of 4.
From link man to left midfielder, they will find a way to squeeze Steven Gerrard into this England
team somehow.
They shoehorn the Liverpool midfielder into the side and encourage him to slide up and down the
greasy pole that has become England's left midfield. Poor blighter.
Too good to leave out and too flexible to hold down his own position, he was stationed out there
again last night.
From 15:45 BST, we are going to offer a live commentary on the Manchester City versus West Ham
United Sky Live game.

Manchester City - The owners' money is held in Thailand. Mark Clattenburg is banned from
officiating. They keep pretending to sign players for real money but payment is non-existent or
made in crisp Thai baht, with smudged ink.
Croatia's Niko Kranjcar took a hit in their last game against Slovenia and went into surgery for
his ankle on Wednesday. He has not been listed for September's qualifiers and is likely to miss
October's games as well. Slaven Bilic has reported that Kranjcar will be on crutches for at ...
Stuart Pearce today ruled himself out of the vacant manager's position at West Ham. The England
Under-21 boss was one of the favourites to succeed Alan Curbishley at Upton Park, but the former
Hammers defender revealed he will honour his contract with the FA and stay with the Under-21s. (the

Pearce, 46, said: "I'm a man of my word and the way the game flits in and flits out at the
moment disappoints me greatly.
Thomas Rooney – Freelance Sports Journalist West Ham United are in a strange situation right
now. Their manager Alan Curbishley quit yesterday after a disagreement with the clubs owners over
the transfer policy at Upton Park and now it seems no-one wants to take over the reigns. Both Harry
Redknapp and Slavin Bilic [.
After all, it's only a game of football, yet it doesn't stop the media and footballers
inappropriately using war and gangster metaphors to describe big matches. In the past couple of
years, the Croatians have demonstrated what a tough nut they are to crack under Slaven Bilic, and
it's little ...
Austria The Austrians are not a race renowned for great football, remember, this was the country
that lost to the Faroes in 92 resulting in coach Josef Hickersberger 1st stint in charge coming to
an embarrassing end. But now, he's back to show he can really take them down! The nations
expectations are so bad that a petition was set up by their own fans to stop them from entering!
Croatia 1-0 Austria
It was the worst possible start for Austria: conceding a penalty in the first five minutes, after Ivica Olic was brought down in the box by Rene Aufhauser. A ballsy call by the referee, awarding a penalty against the hosts so early on, but I think it was the right one, and Luka Modric put it away easily.

I'm blaming Slavan Bilic for this one. What was he doing jumping around like the players after
Croatia scored the goal in the 119th minute of the match? He's no longer on the team, he's the
coach! You have to maintain your composure and continue coaching, making sure that your team is
organized to defend the final 2 minutes or so that are left in the game.

We can help you here at the Den. It's only 3 days since Spain held aloft the Euro 2008 Silverware
in Vienna and already I'm suffering symptoms not seen since the last day of the season, yep Euro
2008 cold turkey. Like Rents, I need a hit so what better than a quick reminder of what a great
tournament it really was.
Harry Redknapp will resist the lure of an emotional return to West Ham United. The Portsmouth
manager fears he would suffer the same constraints that prompted Alan Curbishley to resign
yesterday. That has left the Croatia coach, Slaven Bilic, as the favourite to take up the reins at
Upton Park.
Kevin Keegan'ın Newcastle'ın başında kalıp kalmayacağı
belirsizleşince 'Yalancı...'nın demiştim. KK pes etmiş, artık yokum
demiş. Newcastle için şaşırtıcı değil elbette, öyle de
böyle de kaybediyorlar. Bir diğer menejersiz takım da Westham. Bilic'in
bordomavilerin başına geçebileceği söyleniyordu, Bilic yok öyle
şey demiş.
Westham United da Newcastle gibi kendisine menejer bakıyor. Aday sayısı 7: Bilic,
Donadoni, Roberto Mancini, Morten Olsen, Gianfranco Zola, Gérard Houllier and John Collins.
Bilic ben yokum dedikten hemen sonra Londra'da Donadoni ile görüşmüşler.
Gerçi Bilic'in menejerleir istemem yan cebime misali görüşmeleri tamamen
bitirmemişler.
Slaven Bilic rejects West Ham approach
West Ham face a dilemma in their quest to discuss the vacant managerial position at Upton Park with
former defender Slaven Bilic after the Croatia manager reportedly rejected an offer to replace Alan

Slaven Bilic has warned England that Croatia have improved since this summer's European
Championships - and being linked with West Ham will not distract him in Zagreb on Wednesday. Bilic
has been on the shortlist to take over from Alan Curbishley at Upton Park but insists he wants to
stay coaching his country, with Fabio Capello [.
Gianfranco Zola remains the clear favourite to be named as West Ham's new manager after the club's
board ruled out Slaven Bilic's claims. The club's directors are understood to have made Zola, 42,
their top choice at a meeting on Monday, narrowly ahead of fellow Italian Roberto Donadoni. West
Ham will look to complete talks as soon [.
England are up and running after a Theo Walcott hat-trick inspired the 3 Lions to a 4-1 victory
away in Croatia.
I never got to watch England's last 2 matches against Andorra (2-1) and the red & whites of Croatia
(4-1) because I don't have Setanta, so I won't be going into one regarding how we played.
Congratulations must got to Turkey for putting out the team most likely to do a "Greece" this year
(and, in doing so, taking over that mantle as unfancied and unlikely potential European champions)
but I cannot hide my disappointment that Croatia are now out of the tournament.
Friday night's quarter-final between the two surprise packages was a horrible game for 119 minutes
until Ivan Klasnic gave what Slaven Bilic and his team thought was a last gasp winner, before Semih
Senturk volleyed the equaliser with the last kick of the game.
